In areas where water is scarce, water management is critical. This has an impact on agriculture, as a significant amount of water is used for that purpose. Electronic measurement equipment are essential for regulating and storing soil data. As a result, research has been conducted to manage water usage in the irrigation process. Many equipment for managing soil fertility systems are extremely expensive, making this type of system unaffordable for small farmers. These soil fertility control systems are simple to implement because to recent improvements in IoT technology. The goal of this project is to develop a new methodology for smart irrigation systems. The parameters required to maintain water amount and quality, soil properties, and weather conditions are determined by this IoT-based Smart irrigation System. The system also assists in sending warning signals to the consumer when an error occurs in determining the percentage of moisture in the soil specified for the crop, as well as an alert message when the fertility of the soil changes, since many workers, particularly in big projects, find it extremely difficult to check the soil on a daily basis and operate agricultural devices such as sprinkler and soil fertilizing devices.
Algal growth potentials were probed by algal growth rates, maximal PSII quantum yields and ATP amount as well as dry weights of algae to evaluate the water fertility due to the algal growth in the stream (CT) and stagnant watershed (WW). Oscillatoria agardhii (CY) and Coelastrum reticulatum (CH) were cultured in nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) starvation media (CH-10 medium) and re-inoculated in CT and WW for 7 days. Cell division rates of CY were the highest (k = 7.5) in WW after N starvation, while those of CH were the hight (k = 2.97) in WW after P starvation. The growth of CY was limited by P, while that of CH was by N. Conversely, maximal PSII quantum yields of CH were generally higher than those of CY in CT and WW according to culture time. CY was much more sensibly adapted than CH according to the variations of nutrient amounts in WW. The water fertility was much higher in WW than in CT. The potential assessment tool for water fertility will be able to compensate for the limit of physio-chemical analyses and to be applied as a monitoring system to forecast red-tide.
This study was conducted to know how cold tolerance of rice is inherited. Several crosses were made between cold tolerant and susceptible varieties, and their progenies were evaluated for days to heading, spikelet number per panicle and spikelet fertility under both cold water and natural conditions. In F$_1$ and F$_2$ generations, earlier heading, more number of spikelet per panicle and higher spikelet fertility under the cold condition were dominance, and less delay or reduction in heading days and spikelets per panicle by cold treatment were over dominance or partial dominance, while less reduction in spikelet fertility by cold-water irrigation was complete dominance. Heritability in most characters by cold treatment was high and there was less difference of heritabilities in heading days and spikelets per panicle between cold treatment and natural conditions, while there was much difference of heritability in spikelet fertility between two conditions. Heterosis in spikelet fertility was considerably high, while those in heading days and spikelets per panicle were relatively low. Heterosis in remote crosses was especially larger under the cold-water treatment condition compare with that under natural condition.
This study has been made to find out more effective way of vegetation establishment on severely denuded forest land from the viewpoint of soil moisture regimes. Various environmental factors were measured to estimate soil moisture conditions of different sites. Soil moisture influence on growth of over vegetations, water requirement and drought resistance were analyzed. The efficiency of water use was also reckoned at different fertility levels and different soil moisture conditions. This research is composed of field experiment and green house experiment. Field experiment includes height growth, survival and coverage analysis of cover vegetations (Robinia pseudoacacia L., Lespedeza bicolor Turcz, Arundinella hirta Tanaka var. ciliare Koidzumi.) with 4 fertility level treatments on 3 slopes (Steep: $37^{\circ}$, Moderate: $25^{\circ}$, Gentle; $17^{\circ}$) during dry season (1 April-30 June) and wet season (1 July-10 September). At the same time temperature, relative humidity and precipitation were measured to understand the environmental changes. Soil moisture conditions were measured with soil moisture meter with 24 soil cells. Green house experiment comprised height, fresh weight and dry weight measurements of cover vegetations with 4 fertility levels and 3 moisture conditions for 70 days. The results extracted from experiments are as follews. 1. Cover vegtations have 3 patterns of water requirement at the early stage of growth. a) Robinia type has high water requirement and weaker drought resistance. b) Lespedeza type has low water requirement and stronger drought resistance. c) Arundinella type has moderate water requirement and weaker drought resistance. 2. The vegetations have different optimum fertility levels in different soil moisture supply condition. a) Robinia needs a low fertility level in dry condition and a high level in wet condition. b) Lespedeza needs only low fertility level in all conditions. c) Arundinella needs a low fertility level in dry condition and a high level in wet condition. 3. The efficiency of water use (Water/1g dry weight) by fertility levels is different from one another. Robinia and Arundinella have a good efficiency at low fertility level in dry condition and at high fertility level in wet condition. Lespedeza has a good efficiency at low fertility level in all conditions. 4. $P_2O_5$ requirement of Robinia and Lespedeza is high, but that of Arundinella is low. Soil moisture condition has a great influence on $P_2O_5$ absorption in dendued forest land. Once Vegetations are established on suitable sites with optimum fertitity level according to different moisture condition, even the small amount of soil water in denuded land can he used with high efficiency and the effect of fertility treatment can be maximized.
This cepseiment was carried out to cerify the effect of thawing methods and preservative temperature on the sperm motility and fertility after thawing semen with plastic straws in fresh and warm water. Sperm motility in vitro stored at room temperature after thawing were conducted by the various storage hours. A field trial after thawing semen with warmed water in straws from Cheju native cows involving 4 technicians and 800 cows first (or second) services gave the following results. The thawing methods of warmed water for one minute in semen motility were considerably higher than that in iced water during 12 hours after thawing semen, however, the sperm survival index of ice-water shwed a better results according as the time passed away, but not significant differences. Preservative temperaure at 5$^{\circ}C$ (iced water) after thawing gave significantly better results than that of thawed at 3$0^{\circ}C$ (warmed water). The N R rate to 175 inseminations with semen thawed at 15-2$0^{\circ}C$ (fresh water) was 82.8%, 80.9% for 610 inseminations thawed in warm water. Conception rate ofthe semen thawed in warm water for 10-60 secs gave no significant difference among storage hours, because the semen used to be inseminated within one hour almost, but in decreased when semen thawed at the period of one minute over.
In the first paper of the series the five soil fertility factors were evaluated by means of principal component analysis and varimax method. They are interpreted as representing, 1) skeletal available phosporus status, 2) organnic matter status, 3) salt status 4) base status, and 5) free oxide status. In order to resynthesize such fragmented information for the overall soil fertility evaluation, the method of multiple regression analysis was adopted, using the five factor scores and yield data for Korean paddy soils as independent and dependent variables respectively. As test of linear models with different combinations of independent variables the results of t-test of regression coefficient were revealed that the organic matter status (FII) has no relevance to the yield of paddy and that the free oxides and salt supply has by it self only an insignificant contribution to the yield. The multiple correlation coefficient (R) revealed its multiple regression analysis was as low as 0.43. Introduction of quadratic terms to the linear model bettered the result. Thus multiple correlation coefficient (R) was increased as 0.59. Therefore, a coefficient of determination 0.35 was obtained by a quadratic model with interaction terms among the five fertility constituents. Generally we think that the fertility factor has more contribution to raise the rice yield in paddy and that the failure of yield prediction by fertility factor scores was caused by one of follows; 1) the roughness of the yield inspection, and 2) missextraction of fertility constituents. The second step in this study, assuming that the residuals by multiple regression analysis were due to factors other than soil fertility, we can now proceed to predicting the yield from the field characters with the classified fertility groups by means of Hayashi's theory of quantification No. 1. Such variables as fertility groups (FTYG), water availability (WATER), soil drainage (DRNG), climatic zone (CLIZ), surface soil's stickiness (STCKT), surface soil's dry consistence (DCNST), and surface soil's texture (FTEXT) are taken up as the explanatory variables. The quantification appears reasonable; the well to extremely well in soil drainage, very sticky of surface soil, inefficiency in water availability, coarse texture, and very hard to extremely hard dry consistence in soil are detrimental to the rice yield. The R was as high as 0.90 for the set of variables. But the given explanatory variables in this study were not quite effective in explaining rice yield. The method developed seems to be promising only if properly collected data are available. Conditions that should be satisfied in the yield inspection obtained from common cultivator for the purpose of deriving a prediction equation were put forward.
Seral changes in environmental factors and recovery of soil fertility during abandoned field succession after shifting cultivation were investigated in eastern Kangwon-Do, Korea. Relative light intensity of herb and shrub layer decreased gradually until 50 years and increased slightly thereafter. Amount of litter and nutrients derived from it were depicted as a parabola form showing the gradual increment during the first 50 years and slight decrease thereafter. Organic matter, pH value, total-N and Mg of soil were plotted as an early depletion-mid pinnacle form showing the extrems depletion during the first 10 years, abrupt increase in about 20 or 50 years and gradual decrease thereafter. Ca, Al, Mn and Na of soil were depicted as a pinnacle form showing the peak in about 20 or 50 years. Thickness and field capacity of soil increased gradually, but K and total-P did not show any tendency as succession proceeded. The soil fertility, overall capacity of soil nutrients and water for plant growth, was plotted as the early depletion-mid pinnacle form.
LBD-001, a recombinant human interferon $\gamma$ produced by genetically engineered yeast as a host system, was administered intraperitoneally to Sprague-Dawley male rats from premating to mating period at least for 60 days and to female rats from at least for 2 weeks before mating to early gestation period (from day 0 to 7 of gestation) at dose levels of $0.35\times10^6, 0.39\times10^6, and 1.38\times10^6$ I.U./kg/day. In the positive control group, ethynylestradiol ($EE_2$; 40 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg/day) was subcutaneously administered only to female rats during the early gestation period. Effects of the test agents on reproductive performances of the male or female rats and embryonic development were as followings; (1) No significant changes by the treatment of LBD-001 were observed in general behaviors, body weight, food and water consumption, and necropsy of parent animals. However, significant decreases of body weight, food consumption, and water consumption were observed in ($EE_2$ -treated female rats. (2) Mating performances and fertility of parent animals were not significantly affected by the treatment of LBD-001. In ($EE_2$ -treated females, however, the fertility was completely inhibited. (3) No changes in resorption rate and external abnormality of F1 fetuses were observed by the treatment of LBD-001. The results show that LBD-001 at the dose of $1.38\times10^6$ I.U./kg/day or less does not affect general toxicity and reproductive function of parent animals and embryonic development of F1 fetuses.
The objective of this study was to develop of semen transport system for cryopreservation and fertility in bull sperm. The ejaculated semen were diluted with Triladyl containing 20% egg-yolk for transportation. Diluted semen was transported by three methods that there were wrapping tissue (Tissue), sinking under $30^{\circ}C$ water (Water) and sinking between warm water and air (Air) methods. Semen was transported within 2 hours in $0.3^{\circ}C$. For this study, the freezing of diluted semen were added with Triladyl containing 20% egg-yolk. And frozen-thawed sperm were estimated with SYBR14/PI double stain for viability, FITC-PNA/PI double stain for acrosome reaction analysis and Rhodamine123 double stain for mitochondrial intact assessment. In results, live sperm (SYBR+/PI-) in Air treatment group ($43.3{\pm}4.7%$) was significantly (p<0.05) higher than other treatment groups (Tissue: $16.3{\pm}2.7%$ and Water: $27.5{\pm}3.1%$), dying sperm (SYBR+/PI+) in Air treatment group ($55.6{\pm}4.7%$) was significantly lower than other treatment groups (Tissue: $77.6{\pm}3.2%$ and Water: $67.6{\pm}3.3%$) (p<0.05). Acrosome reaction in Air treatment group ($0.2{\pm}0.1%$) within live sperm (PI negative region) was significantly (p<0.05) lower than other treatment groups (Tissue: $0.7{\pm}0.2%$ and Water: $0.5{\pm}0.1%$), the acrosome reaction in Air treatment group ($28.6{\pm}2.8%$) within all sperm also was significantly lower than other treatment groups (Tissue: $44.2{\pm}1.8%$ and Water: $36.2{\pm}2.0%$) (p<0.05). And mitochondrial intact in Air treatment group within live ($97.1{\pm}0.4%$) and all ($61.9{\pm}3.3%$) sperm were significantly higher than other treatment groups (Tissue: $85.2{\pm}3.3%$, Water: $87.8{\pm}2.9%$ within live sperm and Tissue: $49.28{\pm}3.7%$, Water: $42.0{\pm}3.1%$ within all sperm) (p<0.05). Therefore, we suggest that transportation by sinking method between warm water and air was beneficial to improvement of fertility in frozen-thawed in bull semen.
The algal growth potential test (AGPT) bioassay were conducted to assess the water quality and fertility in the Chinyang Reservoir and the lower part of the Nam River from August 2000 to July 2001, The AGPT value of the Chinyang Reservoir ranged from 0 to 23.4 mg dw $1^{-1}$, while 79% of the algae cultivation have not grown. The AGPT value was in proportion to phosphorus concentration of the water, and it was less when chlorophyll-a was high. This value was higher in the middle and lower layers than in the upper layer, and in the inflow part where the water is shallower than in the lacustrine. The AGPT value has increased in the whole reservoir in August${\sim}$September when the water volume is high. In contrast, the AGPT value in the Nam River varied greatly compared to that of the reservoir, and ranged from 0 to 252.0 mg dw $1^{-1}$ and 65% of the algae cultivation have grown. The value was less than 10 mg dw $1^{-1}$ in the upstream, over the point where the treated wastewater discharged. It was 57 mg dw $1^{-1}$ on the average in the downstream, except in March and July when the discharged water influenced greatly, exceeding the hypertrophic condition. The result of AGPT shows the differences in the time and space on the reservoir and the streams. The AGPT value has increased in July${\sim}$September, and in December in the inflow part of the reservoir; in March and August${\sim}$December in the lower part; and in January, May, and November in the streams. AGPT is useful not only in defining the influence of the limiting nutrients on the algal growth, but also in evaluating the nutrients fertility in the inland water.
