One of the difficult and time consuming problems in the production of magnesia from sea water is a settling rate of magnesium hydroxide. In this experiments, authors attempted to accelerate its settling rate by addition of various sedimenting agents as C.M.C., Separan and Starch, and sought for optimum calcination temperature for domestic dolomite, as alkali source, mole ratio of dolomite milk to bittern. It is observed through experiments that the small amounts of sedimenting agents, C.M.C., Separan, starch, 20 mg/l, 40 mg/l, 400mg/l, respectively increase the settling rate of magnesium hydroxide by 8 times or more. The following conditions resulted in good yield of magnesium hydroxide from sea water with relatively tolerable calcium oxide contaminated for the magnesium clinker. Calcinating temperature, $1,100{\sim}1,200^{\circ}C$, mole ratio of 10% dolomite milk to magnesium salts in sea water or bittern, 1. 2 : 1.

Recently, the water pollution of coastal sea area including harbor, bay and inland sea has been very serious and it causes u\\various environmental impacts. In this study, water flow system of Danghnag Bay, which has the narrow and long topographical characteristics with the narrow bay mouth and its flow is influenced principally by the tidal current, is investigated experimentally and numerically. In order to understand the tidal system of Danghang Bay, harmonic analysis is performed based on measured tidal range and flow velocity. In addition, numerical model for tidal exchange is developed considering conditions of Danghang Bay. Calculated results show good agreement with measurement. Lastly, based on the proposed numerical model, exchange ratio of seawater volume in Danghang Bay is predicted.
An investigation was conducted to determine limiting nutrients in the bay systems of the southern coastal area of Korea. The elemental composition of C, N, and P in suspended particulate matter was monitored nearly monthly in Chinhae and Koje Bays and seasonally in Deukryang Bay for 2 years. Atomic C:N ratio in particulate matter ranges from 4.3 to 9.6, typical of marine phytoplankton. C:P and N:P ratios vary from the Redfield ratio to 229 (C:P) and 37 (N:P). A constant C:N ratio of 6.87 from regression of particulate C and N concentrations demonstrates that the particulate matter in the systems originates from primary production. C:P and N:P ratios from regression of C on P and N on P are well associated with changes in salinity. The low N:P ratio of 13.1 implies N limitation in the environments of the systems. This seems to result from the low N:P ratio of nutrients released across sediment-water interface. Phytoplankton response, expressed here as the increase of chlorophyll a, to N addition also verifies N limitation for phytoplankton communities. In heavy rainfall season (from June to September), the addition of excessive N via streams into the stratified coastal water proliferates phytoplankton greatly. During the phytoplankton blooms, C:P and N:P ratios are much higher than the Redfield ratio, implying P limitation. This results from the high N:P ratio in nutrients supplied from stream waters. Strong stratification during the blooms also interrupts the supply of nutrients, particularly p, from bottom waters. Dependent upon precipitation, this tendency shows great inter-annual variation.
Some pretreatment methods have been proposed to enhance the biodegradability and to shorten the hydrolysis reaction time. By means of efficient pretreatment the suspended solids (SS) can be made of better accessible for the anaerobic bacteria. There are several ways how this can be accomplished, which include biological, mechanical, thermal, and chemical methods. For the sludge solubilization using the cavitation phenomenon, we have tried to develop a pretreatment process consisted of a reactor and pumps. The objectives of this study were to develop a advanced wastewater treatment consisted of IABR and the cavitation with PGA. The most effective removal for organic matter and nutrients were occured when both cavitation pretreatment and ${\gamma}$-PGA were applied at the IABR process. Only small portion of ${\gamma}$-PGA at a rate of 1.38mg/L, was enough to improve sedimentation ability, SS removal efficiencies, and sludge volume reduction. After the sludge solubilization by the cavitation, SCOD increased to 193% and SS decreased to 36%. The removal ratio of BOD was 94.5%, T-N removal ratio was 85.5% and T-P removal ratio was 84.9%. The combination process of the IABR with the cavitation and PGA addition seems to be very effective alternative wastewater treatment process.

Changes in surface properties and detergency of sunactant mixtures were investigated in order to study the optimum mixing ratio of anionic and nonionic surfactants by measuring surface tension, interfacial tension, suspendability, and emulsification as a Amction of mixing ratio. Also, surface tension and detergency of the surfactant mixtures were determined with the increase of water-hardness or temperature. The results were as follows: the addition of NPE to anionic surfactant solutions (LAS or SDS) by 0.1 mole fraction remarkably decreased surface tension. NPE (n=15)/anionic surfactant mixtures showed a synergistic effect in lowering interfacial tension and emulsification, but NPE (n=7.5)/anionic surfactant mixtures did not. In suspension stability, however, synergism appeared when LAS or 505 was mixed with both of NPE's. With respect to the hydrophile of NPE, NPE (n=15) was more effective than NPE (n=i.5) in improving suspension stability. Detergency of LAS/NPE mixture changed almost linearly with mixing ratio, but that of SDS/NPE mixture increased remarkably by the addition of 0.1 or 0.2 mole fraction of NPE at all temperatures. As the temperature increased, surface tension of surfactant mixtures decreased and detergency was improved, but their synergistic effect decreased. In hard water, the mixtures showed better detergency than single surfactuant solutions.

This research investigates experimentally an effect on the properties of the high flowing concrete according to variations of concrete materials and site conditions. Variations of sensitivity test are selected items as followings; (1)Concrete temperature, (2)Unit water(Surface moisture of fine aggregate), (3)Fineness modulus of fine aggregate, (4)Addition ratio of high-range water reducing agent. And fresh conditions of the high flowing concrete should be satisfied with required range including slump flow$(65{\pm}5cm)$, 50cm reaching time of slump flow$(4\~10sec)$, V-box flowing time$(10\~20sec)$, U-box height(min.300mm) and air content$(4{\pm}1\%)$. As results of sensitivity test, material variations and site conditions should be satisfied with the range as followings; (1)Concrete temperature is $10\~20^{\circ}C$ (below $30^{\circ}C$), (2)Surface moisture of fine aggregate is within ${\pm}0.6\%$, (3)Fineness modulus of fine aggregate is $2.6{\pm}0.2$ and (4)addition ratio of high range water reducing agent is within $1\%$ considered flow-ability, self-compaction and segregation resistance of the high flowing concrete.
This research investigates experimentally an effect on the properties of the high flowing concrete to be poured in the under-ground slurry wall of Inchon LNG receiving terminal(#213,214-TK) according to variations of concrete materials. Variables for sensitivity test were selected items as followings. 1) Concrete temperature (3cases), 2) Unit water (5cases), 3) Fineness modulus of fine aggregate (5cases), 4) Particle size of lime stone powder (3cases), 5) Replacement ratio of blast-furnace slag (4cases) and 6) Addition ratio of high range water reducing agent (5cases). And fresh conditions of the super flowing concrete should be satisfied with required range including slump flow(65$\pm$5cm), 50cm reaching time of flow(4~10sec), V-lot flowing time(10~ 20sec), U-box height(min. 300mm) and air content(4$\pm$1%). As results for sensitivity test, considered flow-ability, self-compaction and segregation resistance of the high flowing concrete, material variations and conditions of fresh concrete should be satisfied with the range as follwings. 1) Concrete temperature are 10~2$0^{\circ}C$(below 3$0^{\circ}C$), 2) Surface moisture of fine aggregate is within $\pm$ 0.6%, 3) Fineness modulus of fine aggregate is 2.6$\pm$0.2, 4)Replacement ratio of blast-furnace slag is 45~50% and 5) Addition ratio of high range water reducing agent is within 1%. Based on the specification for quality control, we successfully finished concrete pouring on the under-ground slurry wall having 75,000㎥(#213,214-TK) and accumulated real date in site.
5th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Weather (AR5) predicts that recent severe hydrological events will affect the quality of water and increase water pollution. To analyze changes in water quality due to future climate change, input data (precipitation, average temperature, relative humidity, average wind speed, and solar radiation) were compiled into a representative concentration curve (RC), defined using 8.5. AR5 and future use are calculated based on land use. Semi-distributed emission model Calculate emissions for each target period. Meteorological factors affecting water quality (precipitation, temperature, and flow) were input into a multiple linear regression (MLR) model and an artificial neural network (ANN) to analyze the data. Extensive experimental studies of flow properties have been carried out. In addition, an Acoustic Doppler Velocity (ADV) device was used to monitor the flow of a large open channel connection in a wastewater treatment plant in Ho Chi Minh City. Observations were made along different streams at different locations and at different depths. Analysis of measurement data shows average speed profile, aspect ratio, vertical position Measure, and ratio the vertical to bottom distance for maximum speed and water depth. This result indicates that the transport effect of the compound was considered when preparing the hazard analysis.
To develop health food using old pumpkin, freeze-dried old pumpkin powders were added into wheat flour in the ratio of 0, 1, 2, 4, and 8% and the quality characteristics of the baked products were investigated. Moisture content and water activity of breads with added pumpkin powders were raised from 42.22 and 0.528 in 1% addition ratio to 0.576 and 44.39% in 9% addition ratio compared to 40.69% and 0.521 in the bread of non-added, respectively and these increases were due to the effect of the added pumpkin powders. Water holding capacity of the added pumpkin powders raised the weight of the breads while the specific volume was decreased at that time. In the Hunter's color values, as the pumpkin powders content increased, 'L' and 'a' values were decreased while 'b' value was increased from +29.44 in 1% addition ratio to +45.58 in 8% addition ratio of freeze-dried old pumpkin powders compared to +12.65 in the bread of non-added. In the texture properties, hardness, fracturability, springiness, cohesiveness, gumminess and chewiness were increased by the added content of pumpkin powders hardness to 561 g in the bread withof 8% added pumpkin powders from 248 g in the bread of non-added. Judging from texture, taste and overall acceptability of the product, the recommended substitution level for freeze-dried old pumpkin powders in bread was 4% or less
In-cylinder flows such as tumble and swirl play an important role on the engine combustion efficiencies and emission formations. The tumble flow, which is dominant in current high performance gasoline engines, is able to effect fuel consumptions and emissions under a partial load condition in addition to the volumetric efficiency under a wide open throttle condition. Therefore, it is important to optimize the tumble ratio of a gasoline engine for better fuel economy, lower emissions, and maximum volumetric efficiency. First step for optimizing a tumble ratio is to measure a tumble ratio accurately. For a tumble ratio measurement, many different methods have been developed and used such as steady flow rig, PIV, PTV, and LDV. However, it is not well known about the relations among the measured tumble ratios using different methods. The purpose of this research is to correlate the tumble ratios measured using three different methods and find out merits and demerits of each measurement method. In this research the tumble flow was measured, compared, and correlated using three different measurement methods at the same engine: steady flow rig; 2-dimensional PIV; and 3-dimensional PTV water flow rig.
