  • Wind is a significant and valuable renewable energy resource. It is safe and abundant and can make an important contribution to future clean, sustainable and diversified electricity supplies. Unlike other sources of energy, wind does not pollute the atmosphere nor create any hazardous waste. In some countries wind energy is already competitive with fossil and nuclear power even without accounting for the environmental benefits of wind power. The cost of electricity from conventional power stations does not usually take full account of its environmental impact (acid rain, oil slick clean up, the effects of climate change, etc). In this paper, a transient phenomenon simulation method for Wind Power Generation System(WPGS) under real weather conditions has been proposed. The simulation method is expected to be able to analyze easily under various conditions with considering the sort of wind turbine, the capacity of system and the converter system. Wind turbine connected to the synchronous generator and power converter was simulated.

  • Environmental conservation is becoming the major conversation topic in the 21st century, the era of environment. In the Law for the Preservation of Water Quality, article 53 states "A business unit which is doing business causing pollution caused by non-point pollutant or builds waste water discharge facilities, should report the installation of the non-point pollutant and install the required pollution control facilities". Environmental pollution caused by oil leaks during operation or maintenance has been found in the railway sector. Especially, rolling stock depot is most likely to be affected by environmental pollution. Therefore, in this paper We have investigated non-point pollutant in the rolling stock depot area and have studied adequate disposal method to minimize the effect of the non-point pollutant, hoping to supply the preliminary data for building an environment-friendly rolling stock depot.

Microscopic Spray Characteristics in the Effervescent Atomizer with Two Aerator Tubes

  • An experimental study is performed on atomization characteristics and stable operating conditions for the injection of high viscous waste vegetable oil using an effervescent atomizer with 2 aerator tubes. Consideration is given to the effects of ALR and liquid viscosity on the velocity and mean diameter of the injected droplet. It is found that (i) as ALR increases, the axial velocity of the droplet is increased, while half-velocity width and SMD are decreased regardless of the change in liquid viscosities, (ii) the rate of fine drop distribution occupied in the total spray field is increased with an increase in ALR, and (iii) the effect of viscosity on the atomization characteristics is minor. Consequently, it is expected that the effervescent atomizer will exhibit an excellent atomization performance at the high ALR condition, regardless of liquid viscosities.

  • 플레어 시스템은 해저 원유 시추 시 폐 가스 및 오일을 연소시키는 장비로 폐 연료 연소 시 발생하는 고 열원으로부터 선체, 장비 및 인명을 보호하기 위한 해양플랜트 기자재이다. 플레어 시스템은 유정 시험 장비 중의 하나로서 선급의 설계승인을 필수적으로 받아야 하는 주요 장비이다. 본 연구에서는 플레어 시스템의 설계 승인을 위한 작업 중 전산해석과 관련된 부분에 대해서 소개하고자 한다.

  • Realizing the scope of utilizing by-products of silk cocoons by applying appropriate methods is the immediate crave to optimize returns. The nutritive value of pupae suits for human diet, feed for poultry, carps, fish, rabbits, piggery and dogs. The pupal skin, fat, oil, cocoon palade have applications in oleo chemical, soap, glycerin, cosmetic, artificial fibres, membranes and n-triacontanol isolation. The pupal proteins Chitin, Shinki fibroin, Serrapeptidase, glucosamine are latent precursors of post surgical, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammative, anti-bacterial, anti-histaminic, gastric, hepatitis, pancreatitis, leukocytopenia, neurological, ophthalmic, blood pressure, cardiac and diabetic medicines and for preparation of vitamins A, E and K. The silk and its proteins sericin and fibroin are potentially used for wound healing, diabetes, impotence, sinusitis, arthritis, edema, cystitis, epididymitis, tissue regeneration, cancer, post-surgical trauma and used as anti-oxidatives, bio-adhesives, ultra violet screens and bio-active textiles. The waste cocoons can be used in making art crafts like garlands, carpets, overcoats, decoratives and greeting cards. The in-depth research towards utility optimization and make aware this reality to sericulturists, reelers, weavers, traders, entrepreneurs, policy makers etc., is the upright want of the today's Sericulture industry.

Production of Thermostable $\alpha$-Amylase and Cellulase from Cellulomonas sp.

  • A bacterium, isolated from rabbit's waste and identified as Cellulomonas sp., had cellulase and thermostable $\alpha$-amylase activity when grown on wheat bran. Maximum activity of thermostable $\alpha$-amylase was obtained by adding $3\%$ soluble starch. However, soybean oil (1 ml $1^{-1}$) could increase the production of $\alpha$-amylase and cellulase in 'wheat bran. The $\alpha$-amylase was characterized by making a . demonstration of optimum activity at $90^{\circ}C$ and pH 6- 9, with soluble starch as a substrate. The effect of ions on the activity and the stability of this enzyme were investigated. This strain secreted carboxymethyl cellulase (CMCase), cellobiase ($\beta$­glucosidase), and filter paperase (Fpase) during growth on wheat bran. Carboxymethy1cellulase, cellobiase, and Fpase activities had pH optima of 6, 5.5, and 6, respectively. CMCase and cellobiase activities both had an optimum temperature of $50^{\circ}C$, whereas Fpase had an optimum temperature of $45^{\circ}C$.

폐유가스화 공정의 동적모사 (Dynamic Simulation for Waste-Oil Gasification Process)

  • 본 연구에서는 검증된 BSU 3톤/일급 석탄가스화공정에 대해 개발된 동적모델을 폐유가스화 공정모텔에 적용하였다. 대상공정에 포함된 조작변수들의 변동에 따른 주요 공정변수인 산소/폐유비를 3% 계단증가시킨 결과, 폐유가스화기의 압력은 15분의 시상수를 보이며 최종적으로 2.4%가 증가된 정상상태에 도달하였고, 온도는 초기 1분 이내에 약 3.2%의 급격한 증가를 보인 후 최종적으로 4.1% 증가된 정상상태에 도달하였다. 그리고 생성가스의 조성은 이산화탄소가 6% 증가되었고, 일산화탄소와 수소는 각각 2% 및 8% 감소된 새로운 정상상태에 도달하였다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 폐유가스화기의 부하변동에 따른 주요 공정변수들의 변동경향 및 신뢰성 있는 동적모사 결과를 얻고, 개발된 모델에 cascade 및 ratio 방식의온도, 압력 제어로직을 설계하여 실공정 적용실험을 통한 전산모사결과 및 안정된 운전특성을 검증할 수 있는 기초를 마련하였다.

Electron Flow Shift in Clostridium acetobutylicum Fermentation by Lactate

  • Clostridium acetobutylicum produced more butanol in the medium containing corn steep liquor (CSL) than in a complex medium without CSL Addition of CSL to CAB medium increased sugar consumption by the bacterium. Similar results were obtained in the fermentation using CAB medium containing lactate. The ratio for the butanol produced to acetone of the control culture was 1.8, whilst that of the culture containing 44 mM lactate was 5.2. From these results it is hypothesized that lactate functions as an electron flow modulator in the fermentation. This finding has been utilized for the successful butanol fermentation of a non-corn based agricultural byproduct, palm oil waste.

  • Ultra-fine fibers are spun by expensive fiber spinning technology using special spinnerets. Ultra-fine fibrous materials have attracted considerable attentions because of their potential applications as high performance wiping cloths, water absorbent sound proofing materials and moisture transfer sporting good. However, production expense of ultra-fine fibers is 5 to 7 times higher than general textile materials. The objective of this research is to develop cost-effective recycling process to produce multi-functional ultra-fine fibrous material in terms of the development of garnetting and carding machines for ultra-fine fibrous material waste and scrap. The efficiency of sound absorption for the recycled polyester nonwoven increased with decreasing length and thickness of component fibers, which was attributed to the reduction of air permeability.
