  • The world economy is threatened by rising oil prices due to the depletion of resources, and climatic changes are intensified due to rapid increase of greenhouse gases emission. Global warming is recognized as a worldwide problem not only as national level one, collaborative efforts are in progress actively. The fact is that the development of new & renewable energy which can replace fossil fuel and preserve the environment is the key of the attention in accordance with "low carbon, green growth" policy of our government. Biogas is an energy source. And the best part of using biogas is that wastes are treated in its production process.

  • Reports of explosions in cargo and storage tanks of high flash point liquids such as residual fuel oil, asphalt, and oily waste water have shown that these explosions have occurred even when the liquid temperatures are well below the liquid nominal flash point. The reasons for these seemingly paradoxical explosions are reviewed and results of recent laboratory tests are presented to better define the conditions leading to flammable vapor atmospheres in these tanks. The potential effectiveness of various prevention measures are discussed including inerting, monitoring tank vapor concentrations, and periodic cleaning of condensation and deposits on the tank walls and roof.

  • This study was conducted to obtain basic process simulation data before conducting pyrolysis experiments for the development of a thermochemical conversion system by recirculation of heat carrier and gases thereby. In this study, polypropylene (PP) was used as a pyrolysis sample material as an alternative to waste plastics, and fluid sand was used as a heat transfer medium in the system. Manganese (Mn) was chosen as the catalyst for the pyrolysis experiment, and the catalyst pyrolysis was performed by impregnating it in the sand. The basic properties of PP were analyzed using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), and liquid oil was generated through catalytic pyrolysis under a nitrogen atmosphere at 600℃. The carbon number distribution of the generated liquid oil was confirmed by GC/MS analysis. In this study, the effects of the presence and the amount of Mn loading on the yield of liquid oil and the distribution of hydrocarbons in the oil were investigated. When Mn/sand was used, the residue decreased and the oil yield increased compared to pyrolysis using sand alone. In addition, as the Mn loading increased, the ratio of C6~C9 range gasoline in the liquid oil gradually increased, and the distribution of diesel and heavy oil with more carbon atoms than C10 in the oil decreased. In conclusion, it was found that using Mn as a catalyst and changing the amount of Mn could increase the yield of liquid oil and increase the gasoline ratio in the product.

  • 재생 가능한 자원인 동식물성 기름으로부터 만들어지는 수송용 연료 바이오디젤은 낮은 대기오염물질 배출과 $CO_2$ Neutral 특성으로 환경친화적인 연료로 인정올 받으며 전세계적으로 그 생산량이 급격히 증가하고 있다 한국에서는 년간 20만톤의 폐식용유가 배출되며 이중 약 10만톤이 회수 가능한 것으로 추산된다. 폐식용유의 무단 폐기로 인한 수질오염과 폐기물의 자원 재활용 및 에너지 생산 관점에서 폐식용유를 바이오디젤 원료로 사용하는 연구가 많이 진행되었다. 높은 함량의 유리지방산을 함유한 폐식용유를 효율적으로 전이에스테르화(methanolysis) 하기 위해서는 먼저 산 촉매를 이용한 유리지방산의 전환 제거가 필요하다 본 연구에서는 다양한 종류의 강산성 이온교환 수지를 폐식용유의 전처리(pre-esterification)용 고체 산 촉매로 회분식 반응기에서 테스트하였으며 그 결과 Amberlyst-15가 유리지방산의 에스테르화 반응에 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 회분식 반응기에서 도출된 최적 전처리 반응조건을 적용한 200시간 이상의 연속 전처리 운전결과 폐식용유에 함유된 $5\%$의 유리지방산이 $90\%$이상 전환제거 되었다 전처리 반응 후의 폐식용유를 균질계 염기촉매(KOH) 존재하에 메탄올과 전이에스테르화 반응을 시킨 결과 바이오디젤로 불리는 지방산메틸에스테르(Fatty Acid Methyl Ester, FAME)의 생산 수율은 $85\%$로 얻어졌으며 국내 바이오디젤 표준 규격에 따른 연료특성 분석 결과 FAME의 농도 규격을 제외한 모든 항목이 국내 규격을 만족하였다 폐식용유 바이오디젤의 FAME 농도가 $94.3\%$로 국내 규격$96.5\%$에 미달하는 문제는 식물성 원료유로 제조한 고순도 바이오디젤과 혼합 사용하거나 감압 증류 공정을 통해 고농도의 폐식용유 바이오디젤을 제조하여 해결 가능하다. 대전시 신성동 소재의 음식점에서 수거한 폐식용유를 원료로 하여 생산한 바이오디젤의 차량 배출가스 실증 테스트 결과 경유 차량의 주 오염물질인 PM과 Soot 및 기타 오염물질의 배출량은 감소하였으나 NOx의 배출량은 약간 증가하는 것으로 나타났다

  • In recent years, there is an increasing interest in environmental friendly treatment of waste-plastics in terms of the generation of microplastics. Accordingly, the recycling of waste-plastics is very important because it provides advantages of volume reduction, mitigation of carbon dioxide emission, and reproduction of value-added products. In particular, in order to recycle the eco-friendly waste-plastics, it is necessary to use a physical separation methods, and among them, flotation separation, which can separate material (i.e., polymer component) in waste-plastics is well known as a very effective separation method in terms of material recycle. Therefore, in this review, the research trend of flotation separation for effective separation of mixture waste-plastics was investigated. In addition, through the reported research results, approaches to use as new functional materials from polymers, which are raw materials for waste-plastics, are summarized.

  • Radioactive mixed waste (RMW) means waste mixed with radioactive substances and hazardous substances. In Korea, there are definitions and disposal restrictions on RMW in the Nuclear Safety Management Act, but it is difficult to apply because the contents are insufficient, so this paper proposed applicable management standards. The main RMW generated from nuclear power plants is waste oil, waste asbestos, PCB, and waste fluorescent liquid, and their radiation characteristics are mostly at very low levels and some are estimated at low levels. In addition to nuclear power plants, RMW also occurs in research institutes, industries, and hospitals. The acceptance criteria of all disposal facilities in the world basically prohibit disposal of RMW unless the hazardous substances of RMW are removed or mitigated below the standard value. Cases in Korea, the United States, Japan and Europe were reviewed to propose the RMW management standards in Korea. With reference to the results of the above review, this paper clearly defined RMW and proposed detailed management standards for the separation, storage, treatment and disposal of hazardous substances by applying the Waste Control Act. It also mentioned legislation of management standards, regulatory methods, and acceptance criteria of disposal facility operator.

Supplementation of Essential Oil Extracted from Citrus Peel to Animal Feeds Decreases Microbial Activity and Aflatoxin Contamination without Disrupting In vitro Ruminal Fermentation

  • Long-term storage of feeds or feedstuffs in high temperature and humid conditions can be difficult because of microbial contamination. Essential oil isolated from industrial waste citrus peel could be used as a preservative because it is likely to have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activity. Our objective was to determine whether different levels (0.028, 0.056 and 0.112 g/kg) of citrus essential oil (CEO) would provide anti-microbial activity and enhance preservation of animal feed without influencing rumen fermentation. At 0.112 g/kg, CEO inhibited growth of Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) and Salmonela enteritidis (IFO 3313). Growth of E. coli recovered after 24 h of incubation, but S. enteritidis continued to be inhibited for 72 h. Preservation of antibiotic-free diets for swine was assessed by observing anti-aflatoxin activity. Aflatoxin was detected in control feed samples on days 16 (8 ppb) and 21 (8 ppb) and in anti-fungal agent (AA) treated samples on days 16 (2 ppb) and 21 (4 ppb). However, aflatoxin was not detected in feed samples treated with CEO. Treatment with CEO and AA did not influence ruminal pH, dry matter digestibility (DMD) or organic matter digestibility (OMD) over 48 h of incubation in rumen fluid. Acetate and propionate were slightly higher with CEO treatment (p<0.05), but total concentration of volatile fatty acid (VFA) was not significantly affected by treatment. Ammonia-N concentration was slightly higher for the control treatment (p<0.05). This study showed that treating feed with CEO enhances preservation of animal feed without influencing in vitro rumen fermentation.

A lot of research is progressing about the conversion of diesel biofuel as renewable clean energy. In this experiment were remodel the institution that has been used in fishing engine again produced an experimental apparatus were installed directly, were studied using various bio fuel like to help the economically and environmentally sound operation of the vessel. rapeseed oil, soybean oil, comprehensively analyzing the results the effects of the exhaust emission characteristics of the waste rapeseed oil is available in a marine engine with similar physical and chemical components of the fuel, and the fuel consumption ratio, NOx is slightly increased, but soot was confirmed a tendency to decrease much.
