For the treatment of reactive phenolic resin waste, a simulation model of pervaporative dehydration process has been developed through hollow fiber membrane module. Some of basic parameters were determined directly from dehydration of the waste liquid through a flat sheet membrane to get realistic values. The simulation model was verified by comparing the simulated values with experimental data obtained from hollow fiber membrane module. Hollow fiber membranes with active layer coated on inside fiber were used, and feed flew through inside hollow fiber. Feed flow rate affected membrane performances and reaction by providing a corresponding temperature distribution of feed along with fiber length. Feed temperature is also a crucial factor to determine dehydration and reaction behavior by two competing ways; increasing temperature increases permeation rate as well as water formation rate. Once the permeate pressure is well below the saturated vapor pressure of feed, permeate pressure had a slightly negative effect on permeation performance by slightly reducing driving force. As the pressure approached the vapor pressure of feed, dehydration performances declined considerably due to the activity ratio of feed and permeate.

The rice hull could be the one of the most abundant agricultural waste in Korea. Since the efficient utilization of agricultural waste or byproducts of food industry would be critical for the sustainable growth, this study conducted the investigation of the chemical composition and the morphological properties of rice hull and rice hull fiber. It was found that there was big difference between the outer surface and the inner surface in the chemical composition and the morphological properties. Expecially, the outer surface showed the rugged patterns in which most of silica of rice hull existed. Little or no silica was found in the inner surface and rice hull fiber. The average fiber length of rice hull fiber was 0.45mm which was shorter than that of hardwood fiber. Rice hull fiber showed a round long shape which is typical shape of non-wood fibers

This study investigated the lipid profiles for the possible improving activity of insoluble dietary fiber extracted from cabbage waste discarded during kimchi manufacture and market distribution. Enzyme-treated Insoluble Dietary Fiber (EIDF) is the remnants of crude dietary fiber (CDF) treated by ${\alpha}$-amylase, protease, and amyloglucosidase after removal of soluble materials from cabbage waste. The insoluble dietary fiber of CDF and EIDF in cabbage waste was $65.33{\pm}0.33%$ and $73.57{\pm}0.09%$, respectively. To examine the effects of EIDF on plasma cholesterol concentration, two group of rats were fed either a high fat diet (HFD) or a HFD containing 0.1~1.0% EIDF for 4 weeks. The body weight of all groups was not significantly different (p<0.05) but the body weight of EIDF+HFD groups was less than that of the HFD group (p<0.1). Compared with the HFD group, EIDF also lowered serum levels of total triglycerides to 11.2~23.3% and cholesterol to 26.8~28.5%. In EIDF+HFD groups, the HDL-cholesterol level increased by 7.2~26.1%, while LDL-cholesterol especially decreased by 51.0~61.4% and VLDL-cholesterol by 16.9~26.4%. The atherogenic index of EIDF+HFD groups was also reduced twice that of the HFD group. From these results, EIDF from cabbage waste could be a potential effective food ingredient for improving lipid profiles.
To assign the functionality of the regenerated fiber from waste MDF(wMDF) made of pitch pine, we examined the dyeing characteristics of natural dyes, sappan wood as a polychromatic natural red series, monochromatic gardenia as a yellow series, and indigo blue series. For nonemordanting dye, the colors of regenerated fiber dyed by sappan wood and gardenia were reddish yellow (YR) and yellow (Y) series, respectively, and dyeing conditions were appropriate a 30 ~ 50 g/L of dyeing materials at 60 ℃ for 60minutes of dyeing time. We obtained regenerated woody dyed fibers (Re-WDF), YR to the red (R) series by premordanting with Al and Cu mordant for sappan wood and the purplish red (RP) series by Fe premordanting. In the case of gardenia, only Y series colors were developed in nonemordanting dye or all three mordants. Indigo dye produced Re-WDF with greenish yellow (GY) tone at 1%, green (G) tone at 3%, and blue (B) tone at 5% concentration or more. Re-WDF with indigo showed the best light fastness followed by sappan wood and gardenia. In particular, the light fastness of Re-WDF with gardenia was very poor. The light fastness was somewhat improved by premordanting(Fe>Cu>Al) both sappan wood and gardenia dyes.

The physical and chemical properties of recycled fibers from mixed waste paper are more and more deteriorated because of unknown history of recycling times. In order to improve the mechanical properties of liner paper, the recycled fibers from wasted cotton clothes were used in papermaking process, and their applicabilities were evaluated in several points of fiber modification. Thus, two kinds of fiberizing methods from waste cotton clothes were considered by using rotary sandpaper and grinder mill. Finally, the rotary sandpaper method was relatively desirable in preserving longer fiber length and fibrillated fiber surface. The recycled cotton fibers by swelling treatment with NaOH and bleaching with reductive chemicals were mixed with OCC fibers, and the handsheets were prepared to basis weight of $80g/m^2$ and evaluated the mechanical properties of paper. The fibrous properties showed outstanding results in freeness and WRV improvements by alkali treatment and high brightness by reductive bleaching treatment. The physical and mechanical properties of sheet by mixing OCC fibers and recycled cotton fibers were also highly improved in tensile, burst strength and specially folding resistance.
Polypropylene (PP) fibers for making fabric which is used for packing cement have a high strength and high tear resistance. Due to these excellent properties the present study investigates the effect of PP fibers on the mechanical strength of concrete. Mechanical strength parameters such as compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and flexural strength are evaluated. Structural integrity of concrete using Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) was also studied. Concrete containing PP fibers in percentage of 0%, 0.15%, 0.25%, 0.5% and 0.75% was developed with a characteristic compressive strength of 25 MPa. Concrete cubes, cylinder and prismatic specimens were cast and tested. It was found that the UPV values recorded for all specimens were of the similar order. Test results indicated the used of PP fibers can significantly improve the flexural and splitting tensile strengths of concrete materials whereas it resulted a decreased in compressive strength. The relative increase in split tensile and flexural strength was optimum at a fiber dosage of 0.5% and a mild decreased were observed in 28 days compressive strength. The findings in this paper suggested that PP fibers deriving from these waste cement bags are a feasible fiber option for fiber-reinforced concrete productions.

Since 1990s, the major recycling methods for mechanical recycling of FRP(Fiber Reinforced Plastics)boats has involved shredding and grinding of the scrap FRP in a new recycled product. But still it leads to secondary problem such as air pollution, unacceptable shredding noise level and few limited applications. This study is to propose a newly advanced method which is more efficient and environment friendly waste FRP regenerating system. As extracting FRP layer and making the recycled fiber for recycled-fiber reinforced concrete(RFRC) from waste FRP, the recycling process has some merits in a sense of the recycling energy and the environmental effects. In this study, for those tasks, spectro-chemical differentiation method and coloring water-soluble dye treatment makes the roving layer more distinguishable photophysically. Also that has remarkably reduced safety hazards and energy. Using the mechanical properties of polymers and composite, FRP with the orthotropic and laminated plastic structure has been easily separated in the new extracting system. Also the new method has introduced five kind of separating manuals for the some different compositions of FRP boats. The roving fiber of laminated glass-fiber layer is as good as the polyvinyl fiber which is cost-high commercial fiber to increasing strength of concrete products. The early study has shown the effectiveness of laminated glass-fiber layer which also is chemical-resistant due to the resin coating. These results imply that more efficient and environment friendly recycled glass fiber can be better applied to the fiber reinforced concrete(FRC) substitute and this study also has shown wide concrete applications with RFRC from the waste FRP boat.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the liquid waste from methane fermentation on chemical components, digestible dry matter and net energy of pasture mixtures of orchard grass, tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass and ladino clover. The total crude proteins and crude ashes increased with the application of liquid waste, but N-free extracts decreased somewhat and it didn't affect the content of crude fat and crude fiber. Amounts of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber increased with increasing application of liquid waste and the content of cellulose in cell-wall constituents decreased, but hemicellulose increased. The digestible dry matter was produced 405 kg/10a at optimum application of 42 MT/10a liquid waste compared to NPK check plot of 233 kg/10a. The starch value and net energy lactation were 291.3 KStE and 3450 MJ-NEL respectively indicating that the optimum application of liquid waste increased their values.
