The Effect of Balance between General Walking Exercise and Power Walking Exercise

  • This study aims to compared effect of balance between general walking exercise and power walking exercise. Twenty subjects were classified into two groups, general walking exercise(n=10) and power walking exercise(n=10). As a result, two group showed difference within the group and there is significant difference between two groups. 1) In compared static balance of sway area at pre-post test to exercise group, general walking exercise group did not change significantly. however, power walking exercise group did change significantly. and At sway distance, two group showed significant changes. 2) In compared Static balance between the groups sway area and sway path at pre-post test, two group showed significant changes. 3) In compared dynamic balance of center distance at pre-post test to exercise group, general walking exercise group was no significant difference in all directions. power walking exercise group was significant difference in all directions. 4) In compared dynamic balance between the groups sway area and sway path at pre-post test, there was no significant difference in leftward, rightward, forward directions and was significant difference in backward, overall direction. Therefore, power walking exercise can be recommended promote balance.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this research was to compare the effects of Danjeon Breathing exercise and walking exercise on blood lipids, physical symptoms and hemoglobin of middle-aged women to determine which of these two exercises was more beneficial. Methods: The Danjeon breathing exercise group(20) took health management counseling and performed an eighty-minute Danjeon breathing exercise three times a week for 12 weeks while the walking exercise group(25) took health management counseling and performed a walking exercise seven hours per week for 12 weeks. The control group(20) received only health management counseling. The groups were homogeneous on age, religion, marital status, education, profession, monthly income per household, menopause, smoking, drinking, fat intake and cholesterol intake. Likewise, the groups were homogeneous on total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol,atherogenic index, hemoglobin and physical symptoms. The collected data were analyzed by using the SPSS PC program and $x^2$-test, ANOVA, repeated measures of ANOVA and LSD. Results: 1. Total cholesterol of the Danjeon breathing exercise group and the walking exercise group were lower than that of the control group. 2. HDL- cholesterol of the Danjeon breathing exercise group and the walking exercise group were not higher than that of the control group. 3. Atherogenic index of the Danjeon breathing exercise group was lower than that of the control group, but atherogenic index of the walking exercise group was not lower than that of the control group. 4. Hemoglobin of the Danjeon breathing exercise group and the walking exercise group were not higher than that of the control group. 5. Physical symptom score of the Danjeon breathing exercise group was lower than those of the walking exercise group and the control group, but Physical symptom score of the walking exercise group was not lower than that of the control group. Conclusion: Danjeon breathing exercise and walking exercise are effective for decreasing total cholesterol of middle-aged women. Danjeon breathing exercise is more effective for decreasing atherogenic index and physical symptoms of middle-aged women than walking exercise.

  • The purpose of this research was to compare the effects of Danjeon Breathing exercise and walking exercise on physical fitness of middle-aged women. The control group(20) received only health management counseling. $VO_2max$, back strength, flexibility, balance, power and agility were measured using the Health Management System developed by the Korea Physical Science Institution. The collected data were analyzed by using the SPSS PC program and $x^2$, ANOVA, repeated measures of ANOVA and LSD. The result of this study are as follows: 1. There were significant differences on back strength, flexibility, agility and power among Danjeon breathing exercise group, walking exercise group and control group. The degree of back strength, flexibility and power of the Danjeon breathing exercise group was higher than that of the walking exercise group and the control group. The degree of agility of the walking exercise group was lower than that of the control group. 2. There were no significant differences on $VO_2max$ and balance among Danjeon breathing exercise group, walking exercise group and control group. In conclusion, Danjeon breathing exercise improves back strength, flexibility and power than walking exercise and walking exercise improves agility than Danjeon breathing exercise.

직장인의 걷기운동에 대한 자기효능감에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Affecting Factors on Self-Efficacy of Walking Exercise in Working Men)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the affecting factors on self-efficacy of walking exercise. The subjects were 413 working men. Whose data and material were collected through an organized questionnaire from October, 1999 to May 2000. The major results of this were as follows; 1. 61.1% of the subjects' major affecting factor was deep sleep, 65.0% of the subjects' majo affecting facto was regular physical screening, 51.1% of the subjects' regular exercise, 18.7% of the subjects' walking exercise. 2. stages of change related to walking exercise of the subjects were as follows, 15.8% of the subjects were in the precontemplation stage, 51.1% of the subjects were in the precontemplation stage. 3. The average self-efficacy concerning walking exercise was 3.16 points. 4. With stepwise multiple regression, the most significant factor on self-efficacy related to walking exercise in stages of change was the preparation stage. According to the results of this study, a concrete practice program is needed to promote self-efficacy related walking exercise.

산림 걷기 운동이 내당능장애와 인슐린 비의존형 당뇨병 노인 환자의 혈당치에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Acute forest Walking Exercise on Blood Glucose of IGT, NIDDM in the Elderly)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 일회성 산림 걷기 운동이 내당능장애(impaired glucose tolerance, IGT)와 인슐린 비의존성 당뇨병(non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, NIDDM)환자의 혈당치 변화에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 가를 알아보기 위한 것이었다. 연구의 대상자는 노인 여성(n=60)을 IGT 산림 걷기 운동군(n=15; $66.21{\pm}4.16$ yrs), NIDDM 산림 걷기 운동군(n=15; $64.85{\pm}3.23$ yrs), IGT 운동장 걷기 운동군(n=15; $67.44{\pm}1.78$ yrs), NIDDM 운동장 걷기 운동군(n=15; $65.55{\pm}8.21$ yrs)으로 구분하여 운동강도 HRmax 50~60%의 산림 걷기 운동(인터벌+저항성 근육운동)과 운동장 걷기 운동(유산소성 운동) 프로그램을 적용하여 운동 전과 후에 혈당을 측정하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 첫째 내당능장애군에서 산림 걷기와 운동장 걷기 집단은 운동 후에 모두 유의한 수준에서 혈당치의 감소를 보였고, 둘째 인슐린 비의존성 당뇨병군에서 산림 걷기 집단은 운동 후에 혈당치가 유의하게 감소되었지만 운동장 걷기 집단은 특별한 혈당치의 변화가 없었다. 따라서 본 연구는 유산소 운동으로 지속적으로 운동장을 걷는 운동보다 오르막 내리막 지형을 이용한 인터벌 운동과 저항성 근육운동의 복합 형태인 산림 걷기 운동이 내당능장애와 인슐린 비의존성 당뇨병 환자에 더 효과적인 것으로 제안한다.

Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Disease Severity and Walking Ability in Patients with Parkinson's Disease

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to explore the effects of aerobic exercise on the severity of disease and walking ability in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods: Twelve patients with Parkinson's disease participated in the study. Participants were randomly assigned to either an aerobic exercise group (n=6) or a self-exercise group (n=6). All participants underwent treadmill training for 30 minutes. In addition, the experimental group (aerobic exercise group) and control group (self-exercise group) participated in a 30 minutes exercise program. In both groups, exercise was performed five times a week for four weeks. Outcome including disease severity (Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale) and walking ability (10 m walking speed test, 6 minutes walking test, timed up-and-go test) were measured at baseline and after 4-weeks. Results: Significant differences in disease severity and walking ability were observed between the pre- and post-exercise groups (p<0.05). The improvement of disease severity and walking endurance was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that aerobic exercise is effective at improving disease severity and walking endurance in patients with Parkinson's disease.

전신진동운동, 보행 및 런닝과의 근육활성량 및 근 발현 특성 비교 분석을 통한 전신진동운동 효과검증 (The Effectiveness Verification of Whole-body Vibration through Comparative analysis of Muscle activity for Whole-body Vibration Exercise, Walking and Running)

  • Objective: Through comparative analysis of muscle activity for whole-body vibration, walking and running movements, it is to verify the training effect of whole-body vibration exercise in terms of amount of exercise and muscle activity characteristics. Method: Flat ground walking and slope walking (10 degrees) at a speed of 5 km/h, flat ground running and slope running (10 degrees) at a speed of 11 km/h for running were performed on treadmill, and squats were maintained at 12 Hz, 20 Hz, and 29 Hz conditions on Whole body vibration exercise equipment (Galileo). Muscle activity was analyzed through EMG analysis device for one minute for each condition. Results: The Anterior Tibialis and Erector Spinae show greater exercise effect in whole-body vibration than walking and running. The Rectus Femoris, Biceps Femoris, and Gluteus Maximus have the best effect of exercise in flat running. Whole-body vibration exercise showed greater muscle activation effect as the frequency increased, and exercise effect similar to walking during the same exercise time. Conclusion: The amount of exercise through Whole-body vibration exercise was similar to that of walking exercise, and the Anterior Tibialis and Erector Spinae shows better exercise effect than walking and running.

퇴행성 슬관절염 환자의 걷기 운동이 균형 능력에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Walking Exercise on Balance Ability of Knee Osteoarthritis)

The subject were consisted of 30 women patients with knee osteoarthritis. Method : The walking exercise group with modality treatment. The walking exercise for 40 minutes per day and three times a week during 6 weeks period. Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire(SFMPQ) was used to measure patient's pain level. Patient Specific Functional Scale(PSFS) was used to measure patient's functional disability level. BPM was used to measure sway area. Global Perceived Effect Scale(GPES) was used to measure recovery or worse of patient's condition. Results : 1. SFMPQ was walking exercise showed significantly decreased more than before treatment (p<.05). 2. PSFS was walking exercise showed significantly increased more than before treatment (p<.05). 3. Sway area was walking exercise showed significantly limited area more than before treatment (p<.05). 4. GPES was walking exercise showed significantly increased more than before treatment(p<.05) Conclusion : This study will be used as exercise method of patient with osteoarhtritis.

Effect of Deep Lumbar Muscle Stabilization Exercise on the Spatiotemporal Walking Ability of Stroke Patients

  • Background: Walking is a complex activity. The main components of walking include balance, coordination, and symmetrical posture. The characteristics of walking patterns of stroke patients include slow walking, measured by gait cycle and walking speed. This is an important factor that reflects post-stroke quality of life and walking ability. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of deep lumbar muscle stabilization exercise on the spatiotemporal walking ability of stroke patients. Design: Quasi-experial study Methods: The experiment was conducted 5 times per week for 4 weeks, with 30 minutes per session, on 10 subjects in the experimental group who performed the deep lumbar muscle stabilization exercise and 10 subjects in the control group who performed a regular exercise. Variables that represent the spatiotemporal walking ability (step length, stride length, step rate, and walking speed) were measured using GAITRrite before and after the experiment and were analyzed. Results: There was a significant difference in the pre- and post-exercise spatiotemporal walking ability between the two groups (p<.05). Furthermore, there was a significant difference in the step rate and walking speed between the two groups (p<.05). Conclusions: Deep lumbar muscle stabilization exercise is effective in improving the walking ability of stroke patients. Therefore, its application will help improve the spatiotemporal walking ability of stroke patients.
