  • In addition to the Arcidae (Lutaenko, 2015), a collection of Mytilidae, Ungulinidae and Tellinidae from Japan, identified by the German malacologist C.E. Lischke, was found and studied at the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg. This collection is very important for regional malacological studies in Japan, Korea and China as it contains type material and vouchers. Syntypes of Mytilus atratus Lischke, 1871 (= Xenostrobus atrata (Lischke, 1871)) and vouchers of Tellina diaphana Deshayes, 1855 (= Serratina diaphana (Deshayes, 1855)), Tellina nitidula Dunker, 1860 (= Nitidotellina hokkaidoensis (Habe, 1961)), and "Diplodonta orbella Gould, 1851" (= Diplodonta gouldi Yokoyama, 1920)) are figured with taxonomic and nomenclatural comments. No other voucher or type specimens used in the compilation of the Japanische Meeres-Conchylien were located in the entire bivalve collection.

  • The morphological characteristics of the Korean Scopolia japonica Maxim., commonly known as 'Mi-chi-gwang-i-pul' in Korean, were re-evaluated in comparison with results from previous research, while the distribution map was formulated according to existing flora and voucher specimens. The result of the re-evaluation has shown that there are some distinctive discrepancies compared to the previous reports of some characteristics such as the color of the basal stem, numbers of lateral veins, apex shape of calyx and corolla including the color of corolla. The Korean Scopolia japonica Maxim is found throughout Korea except Jeju-do province. The intra-specific species such as S. parviflora (Dunn.) Nakai, S. lutescens Y.N. Lee and S. kwangdokensis Y.N. Lee were treated as synonyms of S. japonica Maxim. in this research.

  • A hyalid amphipod, Protohyale pumila (Hiwatari and Kajihara, 1981), collected from Jeju Island is reported for the first time in the Korean fauna. The species is characterized by the presence of a short apical spine on the palp article 4 of maxilliped, a distinctly large and blunt cusp on the propodus of male gnathopod 1, and a distal truncate process on the palm of male gnathopod 2. Herein, the present species is described and illustrated. Korean hyalid amphipods now are composed of four species belonging to three genera. Voucher specimens were deposited in the Marine Arthropod Depository Bank of Korea, Seoul National University.

  • After an overview on the temporary situation of the lichenology in South Korea, localities of 95 mac-rolichen taxa are reported for South Korea. In this revised lichen flora of South Korea, 16 species are apparently new to the territory. Voucher specimens have been deposited in the Korean Lichen Research Institute (KoLRI) at Sunchon National University in Korea, and duplicates have also been donated to the National History Museum and Institute, in Chiba, (CBM) Japan.

  • The common rough woodlouse Porcellio scaber Latreille, 1804 is newly reported from South Korea with following diagnostic characteristics: the presence of distinct tubercles on body; the strongly developed lateral lobes of head; the presence of notch on tracheal field of pleopod 1 exopod; and distinctly short exopod of uropod. This species is reported to be cosmopolitan, but there were no taxonomic records of it in South Korea. All voucher specimens were collected from humid shaded areas adjacent to the eastern coast of South Korea. Organismal ecology and scanning electron microscope photographs are provided. In addition, the results of CO1 analysis of individuals representing the different color and morphological variations are provided.

  • A tineid genus, Rhodobates Ragonot, 1895 in Myrmecozelinae is reported for the first time from Korea, with a congener, R. cupulatus Li and Xiao, 2006. The voucher specimens of the species comprise four males and four females collected from Seoul City, Sejong City, Gangwon-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Chungcheongnam-do. Among the previously-known species of Tineidae in Korea, Rhodobates cupulatus is similar to Psychoides gosari Kim and Bae in having the uniform coloration over the body and wings, but differs from the latter in the much larger body size. External appearance and genital features of R. cupulatus are redescribed and illustrated. A COI sequence of R. cupulatus is provided for the first time and compared in the world database of DNA barcodes. The Korean records of the species represent the first evidence of its occurrence out of the type locality. Circumstances of its collecting in Korea suggest that it is possibly feeding on dead woods in damp environments.

  • Kim (1970) was an early, comprehensive foundation for the taxonomy of Korean spider wasps. All the species therein are reviewed, and an annotated checklist comprising 21 species is presented. Species names are corrected in terms of current taxonomy. Based on the re-examination of voucher specimens, five misidentifications are rectified, of which two species rectified as Priocnemis(Leptopriocnemis) cyphonota and P.(Umbripennis) pseudojaponica are new to Korea. Also, occurrences of two species (Anoplius eous and An. viaticus) in Korea, which was doubted by Lelej et al. (1994), are confirmed. On the other hand, exclusions of two species (Irenangelus perinx and Priocnemis mitakensis) from the Korean fauna are proposed. However, the need for further study on six species (Anoplius reflexus, An. infuscatus, Arachnospila eisukei or Ar. fumipennis eisukei, Auplopus obtusus, Priocnemis irritablis) historically mentioned for the Korean fauna is newly recognized. The current taxonomic status of those species is briefly discussed.

  • Silene fissipetala Turcz., which is native to Continental China and Taiwan, was newly found in Chungcheongnam-do, Korea. S. fissipetala is similar to the related taxa S. antirrhina L., S. armeria L., and S. koreana Kom. in that it has glutinous zones. However, S. fissipetala is distinguished from the congeneric species by the presence of laciniate at the petals. The species grows on slopes and roadsides, suggesting that it is likely to have been introduced through the installation of green sites and road construction. A precise description, photographs, voucher specimens and a key to related taxa are provided.
