In this study we report a new method for the synthesis of a silica monolithic column bed with bimodal pores (throughpores and mesopores). The template induced synthesis method was used to direct bimodal pores simultaneously instead of the usual post base-treating method. Block polymer Pluronic F127 was chosen as a dual-function template to form hierarchically porous silica monolith with both macropores and mesopores. This is a simplification of the method of monolithic column preparation. Poly(ethylene glycol) was used as a partial substitute for F127 can effectively prevent shrinkage during the monolith aging process without losing much surface area (944 $m^2/g$ to 807 $m^2/g$). More importantly, the resultant material showed a much narrower mesopore size (centered at 6 nm) distribution than that made using only F127 as the template reagent, which helps the mass transfer process. The solvent washing method was used to remove the remaining organic template, and it was proved to be effective enough. The new synthesis method makes the fabrication of the silica monolithic column (especially capillary column) much easier. All the structure parameters indicate that monolith PFA05 prepared by the above method is a good material for separation, with the merits of much higher surface area than usual commercial HPLC silica particles, suitable mesopore volume, narrow mesopore size distribution, low shrinkage and it is easily prepared.
Background and Objectives: In most cases of benign neck cysts, surgical excision has been considered as treatment of choice. However, sometimes complete excision is very difficult, and recurrences has been occured due to insufficient surgery frequently. In this point of view, non-surgical treatment has been attempted with sclerosing agents such as picibanil(OK-432). In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of picibanil sclerotherapy for benign neck cysts. Materials and methods: We retrospectively reviewed 53 patients(27 males, 26 females) who had undergone sclerotherapy with picibanil for benign neck cysts such as ranula, lymphangioma, thyroglossal duct cyst and branchial cyst. Information was gathered with respected to age, sex, number of injections, side effect and outcome of treatment. All patients were treated with intralesional aspiration of cystic contents and injection of picibanil, and followed on neck ultrasonography or neck CT. Results: 53 patients received sonoguided sclerotherapy using picibanil(OK-432). 31 patients(41.3%) showed total shrinkage, near total shrinkage(more than 90% of volume) in 7 patients(9.3%), marked shrinkage(more than 70%) in 5 patients(6.6%) and partial shrinkage(less than 70%) in 17 patients. 15 patients(20%) reaveled no response and 8 patients showed recurrences with repeated sclerotherapy. The side effects of therapy were observed by symptoms such as fever, localized pain and odynophagia. However, these complications disappeared after several days in all cases. Conclusions: We recognized that picibanil(OK-432) sclerotherapy for benign neck cyst is a safe and effective procedures as a primary treatment before considering surgery.

Volume of concrete slab changes by variations of temperature and moisture after its placement. Shrinkage due to evaporation causes tensile stress in the slab when contraction of the slab is restrained by its self weight, friction with subbase, and etc. Actual tensile stress caused by the shrinkage was less than theoretically predicted stress according to previous studies. It was the stress reduction due to visco-elastic property of the early-age concrete slab partially restrained. In this study, strains of restrained circumferential, unrestrained circumferential, and unrestrained square pillar concrete specimens were measured to investigate stress reduction of the specimens with age of concrete. Elastic modulus of the concrete was measured at the age of 1, 3, 7, 14, 28 days and penetration test was performed. The stress reduction was calculated by input the test results into theoretical equations suggested by previous researchers. The stress reduction of the restrained concrete specimens will be applied to design of concrete pavements based on results of the study.

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of recycled PET (RPET) fiber made from waste PET bottles to examine application on concrete member. To evaluate the reinforcement effect of RPET fiber in concrete member, experimental tests were performed, such as mechanical property tests (compressive strength, modulus of elasticity and splitting tensile strength) and drying shrinkage test. In mechanical property tests, compressive strength and modulus of elasticity in concrete mixed with RPET fiber gradually decreased, but splitting tensile strength gradually increased as volume fraction of fiber increased. In drying shrinkage test, free drying shrinkage increased. In restrained case, in contrast, crack occurrence was delayed because of tensile resistance increase by RPET fiber. The comparison of RPET and PP fiber added concrete specimen's properties showed that two materials had similar properties. In conclusion, RPET fiber is an alternative material of PP fiber, even finer for its excellence in eco-friendliness due to the recycling of waste PET bottles and its possible contribution to the pollution declination.

The performance degradation of concrete pavement by winter deicer is very serious in Korea, and its maintenance and rehabilitation brings a high expense. Therefore, a suitable method for rehabilitation of such concrete pavement and repair material of proper performance are required. In this study, the properties of compressive strength, ability to resist chloride ion penetration, and properties of dry shrinkage of magnesium phosphate ceramics were assessed to evaluate its applicability as a repair material for concrete pavement in Korea. As a result, the mortar flow showed a normal level of 190 mm, but the viscosity was high and the self-flow ability was poor. The setting time was 12 minutes, leading very rapid-hardening, and thus a prompt work was required. The compressive strength of mortar was 38.4MPa in 2 hours, 73.8MPa in 24 hours, and 111.0MPa in 28 days, showing a significant level. As a result of the test to chloride ion penetration resistance, mortar showed 143 Coulombs, and concrete showed 172.6 Coulombs, which fell under very low level. The drying shrinkage of MPC concrete in 40 days was below $60{\times}10-6$, and comparing with normal cement concrete, it showed the level below 1/10 of other concrete to secure an excellent volume stability. As above, magnesium phosphate ceramics has excellent strength performance, chloride ion penetration resistance, and volume stability, and this in the future shall be used in construction under the consideration of working time or workability, requiring further improvement for such performance.
This paper reports on a comprehensive study on the mechanical properties of expansive fiber-reinforced strainhardening cement composite (SHCC) materials containing various replacement levels (0, 8, 10, 12 and 14%) of an expansive admixture and 1.5% polyethylene (PE) fibers volume fraction. A number of experimental tests were conducted to investigate shrinkage, compressive strength, flexural strength, and direct tension behavior. Test results show that as expected, the different replacement levels of an expansive admixture have an important effect on the evolution of the free shrinkage of SHCC with a rich mixture. At the volume fraction of 1.5%, PE fibers in normal SHCC reduce free shrinkage deformation by about 30% in comparison to plain mortar. The replacement of an expansive admixture in SHCC material has led the SHCC to a better initial cracking behavior. Enhanced cracking tendency improved mechanical properties of SHCC materials with rich mixtures. Note that an increase in the replacement of expansive admixture from 10% to 14% does not lead to a significant improvement for mechanical properties; this implies that the replacement of 10% expansive admixture is sufficient.

This study presents basic information on the mechanical properties and long-term deformations of high-strength steel fiber reinforced concrete(HSFRC). The Influence of steel fiber on modulus of elasticity, compressive, splitting tensile and flexural strength, and drying shrinkage and creep of HSFRC are investigated, and flexural fracture toughness is evaluated. Test results show that Test results show that the effect of steel fibers on the compressive strength is negligible, and the modulus of elasticity of HSFRC increased with the increase of fiber volume fraction. And the effect of fiber volume fraction($V_f$) and aspect ratio($l_f/d_f$) on tensile strength, flexural strength and toughness is extremely prominent. It is observed that the flexural deflection corresponded to ultimate load increased with the increase of $V_f$ and $l_f/d_f$, and due to fiber arresting cracking, the shape of the descending branch of load-deflection tends towards gently. Also, the effect of addition of various amounts of fiber on the creep and shrinkage is obvious. Especially, the effect of adding fibers to high-strength concrete is more pronounced in reducing the drying shrinkage than the creep.

This study will not only prove experimental dynamic properties which are classified to slump, compressive strength, tensile strength, flexure strength and toughness granite soil concrete with a fine aggregate of granite soil and blast-furnace cement and polypropylene fiber over 45 mm, but also establish a basic data in order to use environment-friendly pavement through prove useful pavement mixed with granite and polypropylene (PP) fiber which is a kind of material to prevent a dry shrinkage clack, a partial destruction and useful and light. The value of slump test was gradually increased by PP fiber volume 3 $kgf/m^3$, but compressive strength took a sudden turn for the worse from 5 $kgf/m^3$. The compressive strength indicated a range of 13.72~18.35 MPa. On the contrary to compressive strength, the tensile strength showed to decrease with rising PP fiber volume, and the tensile strength indicated a range of 1.43~1.64 MPa. The tensile strength was stronger about 2~15 % in case of mixing with PP fiber volume than normal concrete. The flexural strength indicated a range of 2.76~3.41 MPa. The flexural strength was stronger about 20 % in case of PP fiber volume 0 $kg/m^3$ than PP fiber volume 9 $kg/m^3$. The toughness indicated a range of 0~25.46 $N{\cdot}mm$ and increased proportionally with PP fiber volume. The toughness was stronger about 8.3 times in case of PP fiber volume 9 $kg/m^3$ than PP fiber volume 1 $kg/m^3$. The pavement with PP fiber volume over such a fixed quantity in the park roads and walkways can have a effect to prevent not only resistance against clack but also rip off failures.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of cavity shape, bond quality of bonding agent and volume of resin composite on shrinkage stress developed at the cavity floor. This was done by measuring the shear bond strength with respect to iris materials (cavity shape , adhesive-coated dentin as a high C-factor and Teflon-coated metal as a low C-factor), bonding agents (bond quality: $Scotchbond^{TM}$ Multi-purpose and Xeno III) and iris hole diameters (volume; 1mm or 3mm in $diameter{\times}1.5mm$ in thickness). Ninety-six molars were randomly divided into 8 groups ($2{\times}2{\times}2$ experimental setup). In order to simulate a Class I cavity, shear bond strength was measured on the flat occlusal dentin surface with irises. The iris hole was filled with Z250 restorative resin composite in a bulk-filling manner. The data was analyzed using three-way ANOVA and the Tukey test. Fracture mode analysis was also done When the cavity had high C-factor, good bond quality and large volume, the bond strength decreased significantly The volume of resin composite restricted within the well-bonded cavity walls is also be suggested to be included in the concept of C-factor, as well as the cavity shape and bond quality. Since the bond quality and volume can exaggerate the effect of cavity shape on the shrinkage stress developed at the resin-dentin bond, resin composites must be filled in a method, which minimizes the volume that can increase the C-factor.
This study is devoted to the problems of thermal and shrinkage stresses in order to avoid cracking at early ages. The early-age damage induced by volume change has great influence on the long-term structural performance of the concrete structures such as its durability and serviceability To solve this complex problem, the computer programs for analysis of thermal and shrinkage stresses were developed. In these procedures, numerous material models are needed and the realistic numerical models have been developed and validated by comparison with relevant experimental results in order to solve practical problems. A framework has been established for formulation of material models and analysis with 3-D finite element method. After the analysis of the temperature, moisture and degree of hydration field in hardening concrete structure, the stress development is determined by incremental structural formulation derived from the principle of virtual work. In this study, the stress development is related to thermal and shrinkage deformation, and resulting stress relaxation due to the effect of early-age creep. From the experimental and numerical results it is found that the early-age creep p)ays important role in evaluating the accurate stress state. The developed analysis program can be efficiently utilized as a useful tool to evaluate the thermal and shrinkage stresses and to find measures for avoiding detrimental cracking of concrete structures at early ages.
