  • A light sensor chip requires a small capacity eFuse (electrical fuse) OTP (One-Time Programmable) memory IP (Intellectual Property) to trim analog circuits or set initial values of digital registers. In this paper, 128-bit eFuse OTP IP is designed using only 3.3V MV (Medium Voltage) devices without using 1.8V LV (Low-Voltage) logic devices. The eFuse OTP IP designed with 3.3V single MOS devices can reduce a total process cost of three masks which are the gate oxide mask of a 1.8V LV device and the LDD implant masks of NMOS and PMOS. And since the 1.8V voltage regulator circuit is not required, the size of the illuminance sensor chip can be reduced. In addition, in order to reduce the number of package pins of the illumination sensor chip, the VPGM voltage, which is a program voltage, is applied through the VPGM pad during wafer test, and the VDD voltage is applied through the PMOS power switching circuit after packaging, so that the number of package pins can be reduced.

  • We propose portable equipment that monitors current and voltage of high-potential power transmission lines. In the equipment, a current and voltage sensor are attached to an insulator that supports a power transmission line: A clamped to the power line and the detected current signal is transmitted to the ground station by a wireless optical link using transmission line is detected by a high resistance element, zinc oxide (ZnO). That acts as a potential divider between the power line and ground. We make an experimental device for 66kV power line and demonstrate that it can monitor currents proposed equipment is small-sized, light, and inexpensive in comparison with the conventional CT (current transformer) and PT (potential transformer) since it does not require high potential insulators and magnetic cores, further, the equipment is easily installed owing to its small size and its simple structure.

  • In order to perform photovoltaic (PV) operation and management (O&M) efficiently, individual PV module monitoring is becoming more important. In this research, we developed wireless IoT sensor which can monitor individual photovoltaic modules. This IoT sensor can detect the output voltage, current and module temperature of individual modules and provide monitored data by wireless communication. Measured voltage error was 1.23%, and it shows 16.6 dBM, 0.42sec and 7.1 mA for voltage, transmittance output, response time and mean power consumption, respectively. IoT sensors were demonstrated in the test field with real climate environment condition and each of 5 sensors showed precise results of voltage, current and temperature. Also, sensors were compared with commercial power-optimizers and showed result difference within 5%.

  • One of the major factors that effect sensor performance is analog noise that added in a sensor signal such as voltage. In multi-axis force sensors, error sources may be classified mainly in two groups. One is structural error due to inaccuracy of sensor body. The other error source is noise signals existing in the sensed information. This paper presents a brief review about the principle of multi-axis force sensors, and then proposes a method that can reduce the effect of noise signal to sensor performance. The method is to convert analog voltage signal to digital numbers near sensor body and then to read these digital signals and conduct signal processing in the computer. By this way, we can eliminate a bad effect of electromagnetic wave emitted from computer and of 60 Hz noise emitted from AC source. The proposed method is investigated through experimental demonstration. The experimental results show that it improves S/N ratio of the sensor about 40 times in our experimental setup.

  • The response of the arc sensor using the welding current and/or welding voltage as its outputs has been obtained by the analysis and/or experiments of the static characteristics of arc sensor. But in order to improve the reliability of arc sensor, it is necessary to know its dynamic characteristics. So in this paper, it is presented the dynamic model of arc sensor including the power source, arc voltage, electrode burnoff rate, and wire feed rate. A numerical simulation of the dynamic model of arc sensor was implemented, computing the welding current with input of CTWD. The results of computer simulations and experiments of $CO_2$arc welding showed that a linear relationship between weaving center - weld line distance and current area difference was established. Additionally, a real-time weld seam tracking system interfaced with industrial welding robot was constructed, the result of the weld seam tracking experiment for weld line with an initial offset error of 5$^{\circ}$was good.

  • High sensitivity magnetic sensor having foreign metal detection capability is proposed utilizing giant magneto-impedance effect. Strip sensor showed the increasing output voltage when the external magnetic field was applied along with strip from strip grounding point, although the initial DC voltage varied depending on the pointing direction of strip sensor. Proposed sensor was able to eliminate more than half of background noise using active noise filter to achive high sensitivity, and it showed the capability to detect magnetized foreign metal object independent of ambient electro-magnetic noise and earth magnet. In case of ferrous sphere, the metal detection up to 0.8mm diameter was experimentally demonstrated at 5mm distance from strip sensor.

  • Microheaters with different structures were fabricated and compared to find an optimal configuration enhancing the performances of $C_2H_2$ gas sensor. Three temperature sensors were integrated on the surface of the insulation layer over the microheater, and resistance changes were observed to check the generated heat from the microheater. A low operating voltage of 1mV was applied to the temperature sensor to minimize any influence of thermal heat from the resistance type temperature sensor, whereas high voltages in the range between 10 and 20V were applied to the microheater. A microheater structure generating maximum heat at low voltage was determined. The generated heat was verified by the temperature sensors on the top of the $Si_3N_4$ and infrared camera. A long term stability and accuracy of the microheater were observed. The developed microheater was applied to enhance the performances of $C_2H_2$ gas sensor and successfully confirmed that the developed microheater greatly contributes to the improvement of sensitivity and selectivity of gas sensor.

  • In this paper, integrated pressure sensor with calibration of offset voltage and full scale output and temperature compensation of offset voltage and full scale output were designed. The signal conditioning circuitry are designed that calibrate the offset voltage and full scale output to desired values and minimize the temperature drift of offset voltage and full scale output. Designed circuits are simulated using SPICE in a bipolar technology. The ion implanted resistor of different temperature coefficient were used to trimming the desired values. As a results, offset voltage was calibrated to 0.133V and the temperature drift of offset voltage was reduced to $42\;ppm/^{\circ}C$. Also, the full scale output was calibrated to 4.65V and the temperature coefficient of full scale output was reduced to $40ppm/^{\circ}C$ after temperature compensation.

  • Solar power generation systems require maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control to operate PV panels at their maximum power point (MPP). Most conventional MPPT algorithms are based on the slope-tracking concept. A typical slope-tracking method is the perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm. The P&O algorithm measures the current and voltage of a PV panel to find the operating point of the voltage at which the calculated power is maximized. However, the measurement error of the sensor causes irregularity in the calculation of the generated power and voltage control. This irregularity leads to the problem of not finding the correct MPP operating point. In this work, the power output of a PV panel based on the P&O algorithm is simulated by considering the insolation profiles from typical clear and cloudy weather conditions and the errors of current and voltage sensors. Simulation analysis suggests the optimal control period and perturbation voltage of MPPT to maximize its target efficiency under real weather conditions with sensor tolerance.

  • As a fundamental investigation to develop a sensor which is able to detect shorted turn phenomenon of generator rotor, we have experimented with self-made sensor using flux generator and high-resolution oscilloscope. We have recorded sensor-induced voltage according to the different condition, such as variations of turn, diameter and length of sensor. Based on the acquired data, we analyzed and simulated under similar circumstances of actual spot to maximize reliability. We have a plan to invest more resources to supply power plants with the developed sensor for ourselves.
