Key parameters of toroidal HTS coil for a superconducting magnetic energy storage system

  • High temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets for large-capacity energy storage system need to be composed of toroid magnets with high energy density, low leakage magnetic fields, and easy installation. To realize such a large capacity of a toroid HTS magnet, an HTS cable with large current capacity would be preferred because of the limited DC link voltage and instantaneous high power required for compensation of the disturbance in the power grid. In this paper, the optimal operating strategies of the SMES for peak load reduction of the microgrid system were calculated according to the load variation characteristics, and the effect of compensation of the frequency change in microgrid with a SMES were also simulated. Based on the result of the simulation, key design parameters of SMES coil were presented for two cases to define the specification of the HTS cable with large current capacities for winding of HTS toroid coils, which will be need for development of the HTS cable as a future work.

Fabrication and Test of Multiple HTS Wire with Transposition for HTS Power Transformer

  • According to the recent design of an HTS (High Temperature Superconducting) power transformer whose capacity is hundreds MVA, the rated current values of the low voltage side are generally over thousands amps. Considering the performance of the recent HTS wires, it is inevitable to use several HTS wires in parallel for large rated current. Lots of stacked HTS wires were fabricated and tested so far, and the results have showed that we have to transpose each wire in order to reduce the AC losses as well as to increase the current capacity. But many development programs about HTS transformers reveal that the transposition of the several wires during the winding process is quite difficult not only in case of the layer windings but also in case of the pancake type ones. So, we need transposed multiple HTS wire which we can handle like single wire or cable for the HTS windings of large capacity power transformer. We fabricated several kinds of samples of multiple HTS wire with transposition to apply it to the HTS windings of power transformer. The electrical characteristics such as critical currents or AC losses are analyzed by experiments in case by case. Finally we present the best design of a multiple HTS wire for power transformer.

  • SiO and graphite composite has been prepared by adopting high energy ball milling technique. The anode material shows high initial discharge and charge capacity values of 1138 and 568 mAh/g, respectively. Since the materials formed during initial discharge process the nano silicon/$Li_4SiO_3\;and\;Li_2O$ remains as interdependent, it may be expected that the composite exhibiting higher amount of irreversible capacity$(Li_2O)$ will deliver higher reversible capacity. In this study, pretreatment method of constant current-constant voltage (CC-CV) Provided high coulombic efficiency of SiO/C composite electrode removing the greater part of irreversible capacity.

고조파 필터 및 인버터의 용량을 고려한 분산전원 시스템의 역률 제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on Power Factor Control of Inverter-based DG System with Considering the Capacity of an Active Harmonic Filter and an Inverter)

  • Electric power quality in power transmission/distribution systems has considerably been deteriorated with the increase in the capacity of distributed generators (DGs). It is because inverters, connecting DGs to conventional power grids, tend to generate harmonic current and voltage. For harmonic mitigation, a large amount of research has been done on passive and active filters, which have been operating successfully in many countries. This paper, therefore, presents how to adopt the filters to an inverter-based DG, with considering a system consisting of both inverter-based DG and harmonic filters. In particular, this paper describes the simulation results using the PSCAD/EMTDC: firstly, the relationship between total harmonic distortion(THD) of current and output power of DG: secondly, the harmonic mitigation ability of passive and active filters. The system, furthermore, is obliged to satisfy the regulations made by Korean Electric Power Corporation(KEPCO). In the regulations, power factor should be maintained between 0.9 and 1 in a grid-connected mode. Thus, this paper suggests two methods for the system to control its power factor. First, the inverter of DG should control power factor rather than an active filter because it brings dramatic decrease in the capacity of the active filter. Second, DG should absorb reactive power only in the range of low output power in order to prevent useless capacity increase of the inverter. This method is expected to result in the variable power factor of the system according to its output power.

극판 피막 분해용 펄스파가 산업용 연축전지의 충전용량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Additional Pulse to Remove the Sulfate Film on the Charging Capacity in the Industrial Lead-Acid Battery)

  • 본 연구에서는 2 V 연축전지의 극판에 펄스파를 인가하여 충전과 방전을 반복한 후 충전용량을 분석하였다. 발전소에서 비상용 전원으로 많이 사용하고 있는 연축전지는 충전과 방전이 반복됨에 따라 방전시 극판에 달라붙어 있던 황산염이 충전 시 이탈하지 아니하고 극판에 피막형태로 달라붙어 절연막을 형성하여 연축전지의 전기반응 통로를 차단하기 때문에 충전용량이 줄어들게 된다. 이에 12 V 연축전지에 많이 사용하고 있는 펄스파를 2 V 연축전지 극판에 인가하고 충전용량을 분석하였다. 펄스파로는 4 V, 20 mA의 전압과 전류에 각각 10 kHz, 20 kHz, 30 kHz 주파수의 펄스파를 사용하였다. 실험결과를 분석한 결과 펄스파를 인가하지 않은 연축전지는 초기 충전용량보다 약 18 % 충전용량이 감소한 반면, 펄스파를 인가한 연축전지는 충전용량의 감소가 훨씬 적었고, 특히 20 kHz 주파수의 펄스파에서 충전용량이 0.56 %만 감소되었다. 이것은 20 kHz 주파수의 펄스파가 다른 주파수의 펄스파보다 극판의 황산염 피막을 분해하는데 더 적합하여 양전하와 음전하의 이동이 활발해진 것으로 판단된다.

리튬이온 전지용 Bismuth 합금 기반 음극재 개발 (Development of Bismuth Alloy-Based Anode Material for Lithium-Ion Battery)

  • Bismuth는 적절한 작동 전압(0.8 V)과 높은 체적 용량(3,765 mAh cm-3) 때문에 Li-ion battery (LIBs)의 유망한 음극소재로 여겨진다. 그럼에도 불구하고 Bi의 Li과의 합금화 반응 중 필연적인 부피 팽창은 심각한 용량 손실과 셀 파괴를 초래한다. 이를 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 N이 도핑된 탄소에 내장된 비스무트 합금 나노 입자(Bi@NC)의 복합체를 간단한 열분해 방법을 통해 제조하였다. 나노 크기의 Bismuth 합금은 단축된 Li+ 이온 확산 경로를 통해 반응 동역학을 향상시킬 수 있다. 또한, N 도핑된 탄소 코팅은 Li+ 이온과의 확장된 합금/탈 합금 반응 동안 Bismuth의 부피 변화를 효과적으로 완충하고 효과적인 전도성 네트워크를 유지한다. 열 중량 분석한 결과 매우 높은 Bismuth 합금 로딩(80.9 wt%)을 보여줬음에도 불구하고 100 cycles까지 315 mAh g-1 용량을 유지하였다.

  • Photovoltaic(PV) resource connected in the power system can be affect to the power quality. To analyze the power quality, this paper simulate the variation of power factor by PV resource connected to the low voltage system. The power factor calculator and full-bridge inverter of PV system are modeled by EMTP/MODELS. Simulation results according to the PV capacity and load are presented.

  • This paper describes an optimal design method of VSI output filter for CVCF system. The cost function is used for design, and all parameters are described in p.u(per unit) so that can be adapted to the change of CVCF rating. The capacitor current feedback scheme is proposed to control the damping ratio of the filter plant to meet the system more stable. This means that the LC resonance can be suppressed well in transient condition and can use the same control gains under the change of system capacity. The validity of the proposed method is well verified with the theoretical analysis and simulation results.
