Interconnection of new energy sources, such as photovoltaic generation, wind power generation, etc., into the electric power distribution system may result in the increasing short-circuit capacity when a short circuit fault occurs. The short-circuit capacity becomes over the interrupting ratings of circuit breakers, and then they fails to operate in the proper way they prevent fault currents from flowing into the distribution facilities and thus causing them serious damages. This study deals with impacts on the respective short-circuit capacity of both low voltage and extra high voltage distribution systems at which new energy sources are installed. In order to obtain more accurate and all-case values very close to reality in the complicated distribution system, computer simulation tools should be required. In this paper, however, its focus is placed on examining the varying trend of short-circuit capacity, which may happen owing to new energy source interconnection, as a previewing step for exhaustive simulation studies.
This paper proposes a new method to improve the available battery capacity in electric vehicles by connecting lead-acid batteries with lithium-ion battery in parallel to supply power. In addition, this method combines the discharge characteristics of batteries to improve their efficiency and lower their cost for electric vehicles. A lithium-ion battery set is used to connect with N sets of lead-acid batteries in parallel. The lead-acid battery supplies the initial power. When the lead-acid battery is discharged by the load current until its output voltage drops to the cut-off voltage, the power management unit controls the lead-acid battery and changes it to discharge continuously with a small current. This discharge can be achieved by connecting the lead-acid battery to a lithium-ion battery in parallel to supply the load power or to discharge its current to another lead-acid or lithium-ion battery. Experimental results demonstrates that the available capacity can be improved by up to 30% of the rated capacity of the lead-acid batteries.

This paper proposed a new control method which is capable of controlling circulating current considering current capacity of switching device. In the unbalanced voltage conditions, active power and reactive power have double line frequency. Thus, in order to provide active power without ripple, it is necessary to inject the negative sequence current components. However, when the negative current components is injected, it increases the total current flowing in the Arm, and in the Sub-module(SM) the current more than rated is impressed, which leads to destroy the system. Also, in impressing the circulating current reference of each arm, conventional control method impressed applicable $i_{dck}/3$ in the case of balanced voltage conditions. In the case of unbalanced conditions, as arm circulating current of three phase show difference due to the power impressed to each arm, reference of each arm is not identical. In this study, in the case of unbalanced voltage, within permitted current, the control method to decrease the ripple of active power is proposed, through circulating current control and current limitations. This control method has the advantage that calculates the maximum active power possible to generate capacity and impressed the current reference for that much. Also, in impressing circulating current reference, a new control method proposes to impress the reference from calculating active power of each phase. The proposed control method is verified through the simulation results, using the PSCAD/EMTDC.
In this paper, the PAE of tube voltage of 93 diagnostic X-ray units those are using at the 19 general hospitals and 9 local clinics in the area of Sungnam, Inchun, and Seoul have been surveyed. The results are summarized as following. 1. PAE of tube Voltage 70, 100KV at the 56 (60%) X-ray units were ${\pm}7%$ below, at the 8 units (9%), were ${\pm}7%$ above, and those 29 X-ray units (31%) were ${\pm}7%$ below or above with the 70, 100KV tube Voltage in a unit. 2. PAE ${\pm}7%$ below were 68 X-ray units, at the low tube voltage (70KV), and 76 X-ray units at the high tube Voltage (100KV). 3. For six year-use abofe, used X-ray units were PAE ${\pm}7%$ above, and so, the longer used years the more X-ray units became declined in those performance. 4. PAE of tube Voltage were better efficiency at the large capacity 30 X-ray units than small capacity 10. 5. PAE ${\pm}7%$ abovein were only 8 units among 84 diagnostic X-ray units in the general hospitals.

Inflow or outflow from the water treatment plant and the sewage water has potential energy. If this potential energy can be converted into electrical energy by water turbine generator, it can help to save energy because of the high capacity utilization. So recently, micro hydro power plant is reviewed in the water treatment facility. If generation capacity is low, induction generator is primarily used. If output capacity is low, generated power is supplied to the inside load. Induction generator can cause voltage drop by the inrush current at a start-up and requires reactive power for magnetization. In this study, we analyzed the flow of power and voltage variation against inrush current that occurs when the induction generator starts under the terms that loads of linear and non-linear of the water purification plant are used. Analysis results are that the voltage drop is within an allowable range and the power factor is slightly reduced by the need of reactive power.

Zinc Air battery obtain their energy density advantage over the other batteries by utilizing ambient oxygen as the cathode materials, and reusing cathode as recycled form. And specific capacity of zinc powder is as high as 820mAh/g. When Zinc Air battery discharged by low rate current discharge voltage profile has very flat pattern until end of voltage. But, when Zinc Air battery discharged by high rate current discharge voltage and capacity become lower. Therefore, we focused on effects of catalyst size in cathode. So we examined performance of zinc air batteries, average discharge voltage, capacity, energy, resistance. And we also obtained resistance by the GSM pulse discharge. So we have got optimum size of catalyst for Zinc Air battery.

Due to space and geographical constraints, the power source may be located outside the island area, resulting in the considerable length of transmission line. In these cases, when an active power is transmitted, unexpected reactive power is generated at a point of common coupling (PCC). Unlike the power transmitted from the power generation source, the reactive power adversely affects the system. This study proposes a new algorithm that controls reactive power at PCC. Causes of reactive power errors are separated into parallel and series components, which allows the algorithm to compensate the reactive current of the inverter output and control reactive power at the PCC through calculations from the impedance, voltage, and current. The proposed algorithm has economic advantages by controlling the reactive power with the inverter of the power source itself, and can flexibly control power against voltage and output variations. Through the simulation, the algorithm was verified by implementing a power source of 3 [kVA] capacity connected to the low voltage system and of 5 [MVA] capacity connected to the extra-high voltage system. Furthermore, a power source of 3 [kVA] capacity inverter is configured and connected to a mock grid, then confirmed through experiments.

According to the 3020 RE (renewable energy) policy of the Korean Government, distributed generators, including PV (photovoltaic) and WP (wind power) systems, have been installed and operated in distribution systems. On the other hand, if large-scale PV systems are interconnected in a distribution system, the spread of PV systems may be postponed due to a reduction of the hosting capacity in PV systems because of the over-voltage phenomena at the customer end by violating the allowable voltage limits. Under these circumstances, this paper proposes an evaluation algorithm of the hosting capacity of a PV system based on the LDC (line drop compensation) method of SVR (step voltage regulator) to improve the hosting capacity when large-scale PV systems are installed in a distribution system. Moreover, this paper presents a modeling of a complex distribution system, which is composed of a large-scale PV system and SVR with the LDC method using PSCAD/EMTDC. The simulation results confirmed that the proposed algorithm and modeling are useful and practical tools for improving the hosting capacity of a PV system because the customer voltages are maintained within the allowable voltage limits even if 6.5[MW] of the PV system is installed in a distribution system with the LDC method of SVR.
This paper deals with the recent development of high-voltage cathode materials of mono- and di- metal ions substituted spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ for lithium batteries. $LiCu_xMn_{2-x}O_4(0{\leq}x{\leq}0.5)$ shows reversible intercalation/deintercalation in two potential regions, $3.9\~43\;and\;4.8-5.0V$ and stable electrochemical cycling behavior but with low capacity. $LiNi_{0.5}Mn_{1.5}O_4$ obtained by a sol-gel process delivers a capacity of 127mAh $g^{-1}$ on the first cycle and sustains a value of 124 mAh $g^{-1}$ even after the 60th cycle. The $Li_xCr_yMn_{2-y}O_4(0{\leq}x{\leq}0.5)$ solid-solutions exhibit enhanced specific capacity, larger average voltage, and improved cycling behaviors for low Cr content. $LiCr_yMn_{2-y}O_4$ presents a reversible Li deintercalation process at 4.9V, whose capacity is proportional to the Cr content in the range of $0.25{\leq}x{\leq}0.5$ and delivers higher capacities. $LiM_yCr_{0.5-y}Mn_{1.5}O_4(M=Fe\;or\;Al)$ shows that the capacity retention is lowered compared with lithium manganate. The cumulative capacities obtainable with Al-substitutted materials are less than those with Fe-substituted materials. $LiCr_xNi_{0.5-x}Mn_{1.5}O_4(x=0.1)$ delivers a high initial capacity of 1$152mAh\;g^{-1}$ with excellent cycleability.

This paper presents a new transient voltage blocking device (TBD) for commucation facilities with low power and high frequency bandwidth. Conventional protection devices have some problems such as low frequency bandwidth, low energy capacity and high remnant voltage. In order to improve these limitations, the new TBD, which consists of a gas tube, avalanche diodes and junction type field effect transistors (JFETs), was designed and fabricated JFETs were used as an active non-linear element and a high speed switching diode with low capacitance limits high current. Therefore the avalanche diodes with low energy capacity are protected from the high current, and the TBD has a very small input capacitance. From the performance test using surge generator, which can produce 1.2/50${\mu}\textrm{s}$ 4.2 k$V_{max}$, 8/20${\mu}\textrm{s}$ 2.1 kA$\sub$max/, it is confirmed that the proposed TBD has an excellent protection performance in tight clamping voltage and limiting current characteristics.
