  • The corona in oil, the surface discharge in oil, the void discharge which could be in a transformer were imitated by using three electrodes with different shapes and the frequency bands of each ultrasonic signal were measured. After emitting artificial noises toward the transformer, only ultrasonic signals were extracted by frequency filtering, from the ultrasonic signals with noises at partial discharge. As a result, it was confirmed that the ultrasonic signals due to the corona in oil, the surface discharge in oil, the void discharge could be distinguished from the noises.

  • In this paper, we obtained the data, which is required in training the neural network and diagnosing the degradation degree, by introducing the AE detection that is effective method in ordinary degradation diagnosis on activation. Automatic detection system to detect acoustic. As the results of generalization tests by appling neural network to the unknown AE patterns obtained from specimens, firstly as to evaluate an objective performance of neural network, the recognition ratio for no-void specimen is appeared. Also, in the evaluation for the adaptability of neural network with a untrained type of no-void specimen, it is confirmed that the result appears.

  • It is essential to develop a large capacity, non-contact nondestructive inspection system having high reliability to investigate repaired and strengthened structures. Nowadays, an infrared camera is widely used in non-contact nondestructive inspection system. Because an infrared camera is sensitive to the surrounding environment, it is necessary to improve a sensitivity of thermal image information and a relationship between defects and thermal image information. In this papaer, presented is an optimum void detection chart for the optimum conditions to detect infrared rays from inside and outside defects like voids and cracks in concrete structures using extensive computer simulation. Sensitivity studies are performed with respect to variables influencing the temperature distribution such as heating temperature, heating time, and geometries of defect, etc. It may be stated that it could be successfully utilized for the non-contact nondestructive inspection system to detect defects in concrete structures.

  • We propose a new method for detecting voids behind tunnel concrete linings using the impact-echo method that is based on continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and a convolutional neural network (CNN). We first collect experimental data using the impact-echo method and then convert them into time-frequency images via CWT. We provide a CNN model trained using the converted images and experimentally confirm that our proposed model is robust. Moreover, it exhibits outstanding performance in detecting backfill voids and their status.

  • In recent years, it has been found that one of the most significant factors in the reduction of the life of concrete pavements is the presence of voids beneath the slab. In the design of pavement, it is assumed that there is a full support through the length of the pavement. When a void develops, this assumption is no longer vaild. With increasing void size, traffic loads have a very a significant increase in stress. Thus, the combination of existing voids and increasing traffic loads results in significant pavement life reduction. Basea on the results of an experimental deflection using Dynaflect device and a theoretical one on the pavement model, this study presents a rational evaluation technique for detecting voids beneath the plain reinforced concrete pavement.

  • Existence of void or delamination inside building foundation or tunneling lining can cause serious problems in structural safety. Therefore, 0probing of such voids in architectural and civil structures is an important process in evaluating the overall integrity of the structures. In this study, the radar method has been examined in its use in detecting voids inside concrete specimens. The dimensions of the specimens are 1,000 mm(width) $\times$ 600 mm (height) $\times$ 140 mm (thickness). A void is embedded inside concrete specimens with the dimensions of 200 mm(width) $\times$ 600 mm (height) $\times$ 50 mm (thickness). Concrete cover depth of 30 mm, 60 mm is studied for comparison. In both cases, the voids is located with 1 GHz antenna.

  • Recently, ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys have been actively carried out for precise subsurface void investigation because of the rapid increase of subsidence in urban areas. However, since the interpretation of GPR data was conducted based on the interpreter's subjective decision after applying only the basic data processing, it can result in reliability problems. In this research, to solve these problems, we analyzed the difference between the events generated from subsurface voids and those of strong diffraction sources such as the buried pipeline by applying the edge detection technique, which is one of image processing technologies. For the analysis, we applied the image processing technology to the GRP field data containing events generated from the cavity or buried pipeline. As a result, the main events by the subsurface void or diffraction source were effectively separated using the edge detection technique. In addition, since subsurface voids associated with the subsidence has a relatively wide scale, it is recorded as a gentle slope event unlike the event caused by the strong diffraction source recorded with a sharp slope. Therefore, the directional analysis of amplitude variation in the image enabled us to effectively separate the events by the subsurface void from those by the diffraction source. Interpretation based on these kinds of objective analysis can improve the reliability. Moreover, if suggested techniques are verified to various GPR field data sets, these approaches can contribute to semiautomatic interpretation of large amount of GPR data.

  • Deterioration of pavements or tunnels primarily from the existence of voids under the pavements or tunnel linings. To detect these voids effectively by non-destructive testes, a method using radar was proposed. In this research, the detection of shape of voids by radar image processing is investigate. The experiments and simulation were conducted to detect voids in or under concrete pavements for tunnel linings) with reinforcing bars. From the results, the fundamental algorithm for tracing the voids, improving the horizontal resolution of the object image and detecting shape of objects, was verified.

  • Detection of square shape voids with size 30$\times$20$\times$5cm and 20$\times$20$\times$20cm in concrete were carried out by ultrasonic image processing technique. The advantages and limitations of this technique for non-destructive inspection of square shape voids in concrete are investigated. In this study, it has been verified that the semi-direct measurement method is more effective than the other methods for detecting the voids in concrete using ultrasonic image processing method.

  • In wireless sensor networks, the selective wakeup scheme is one of the energy saving mechanisms, that is used for an object detecting or tracking. Recently, many protocols are proposed using the selective wakeup scheme for the continuous objects tracking such as forest fires and poison gas. They predict the future shape of continuous objects and activate only sensors in the predicted boundary area of the objects. It works correctly in a uniformly deployed wireless sensor networks. However, it cannot be directly applied to a randomly deployed sensor networks with voids. When the predicted area is in the void area, the activation message cannot reach and the predicted area cannot be activated at the right time. It leads to many detection errors for continuous object. Moreover, if a sensor is once foiled in a activation control then the next activation control might be continuously failed. The detection errors can be result in serious harm to people. In this paper, we propose a chaining selective wakeup scheme for robust continuous object tracking in wireless sensor networks. In our protocol, we collect the information of a void area during the network configuration time; if the next boundary area is in the void area, we activate the chained area surrounding the void area with activation control message.
