As the visual effect frequently used in movies or animations, special effects are well suited for the creation of buildings or materials' destruction and collapse scenes. With the relevant programs developing technologically, the adoption of a real-time physically based-system makes it possible to realistically express dynamic simulations. In the large scale, the visual expression of such effects of destroying is satisfying enough, but most common programs of those effects fail to maximize visual effect generated with the cutting of small materials. Besides, to perform a heavy simulation process needs high-performance hardware and programs, where high costs would become a serious issue. For this reason, this paper suggests a solution optimized for the effect of small materials-cutting. The progress of each step shows technologies which trace movement with the state of the completion of the character's motions and then cut the material in real-time, finally led to the very realistic visual effect. Besides, using vector inner calculation to follow the motions of object and to realize cutting effect, this study provides an experiment that constructs visual effect for visualization from the basis of mathematical algorithm and it would be certainly as an educational material used for further researches.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity and reproducibility of a method based on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) technology for the visualization and measurement of gingival soft-tissue dimensions. Material and Methods: A total of 66 selected points in soft-tissue of the ex vivo head of an adult pig were investigated in this study. For the measurement of radiographic thickness (RT), wet soft-tissue surfaces were lightly covered with barium sulfate powder using a powder spray. CBCT was taken and DICOM files were assessed for soft-tissue thickness measurement at reference points. A periodontal probe and a rubber stop were used for the measurement of trans-gingival probing thickness (TPT). After flap elevation, actual thickness of soft-tissue (actual thickness, AT) was measured. Correlation analysis and intraclass correlation coefficients analysis (ICC) were performed for AT, TPT, and RT. Results: All variables were distributed normally. Strong significant correlations of AT with RT and TPT values were found. The two ICC values between TPT vs. AT and RT vs. AT differed significantly. Conclusion: Our results indicated that correlation of RT was stronger than that of TPT with AT. We concluded that soft tissue measurement with CBCT could be a reliable method, compared to the trans-gingival probing measurement method.
For the past several decades, various next-generation patterning methods have been developed to obtain well-designed nano-to-micro structures, such as imprint lithography, nanotransfer printing (nTP), directed self-assembly (DSA), E-beam lithography, and so on. Especially, nTP process has much attention due to its low processing cost, short processing time, and good compatibility with other patterning techniques in achieving the formation of high-resolution functional patterns. To transfer functional patterns onto desirable substrates, the use of soft materials is required for precise replication of master mold. Here, we introduce a simple and practical nTP method to create highly ordered structures using various polymeric replica materials. We found that polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polystyrene (PS), and polyvinylpyridine (PVP) are possible candidates for replica materials for reliable duplication of Si master mold based on systematic analysis of pattern visualization. Furthermore, we successfully obtained well-defined metal and oxide nanostructures with functionality on target substrates by using replica patterns, through deposition and transfer process. We expect that the several candidates of replica materials can be exploited for effective nanofabrication of complex electronic devices.
By-products from fisheries produced in Korea are of the same industrial material as imported raw materials and are valuable resources for marine bioindustries. Securing raw materials for the mass production of functional materials is one of the main objectives for marine bioindustrial development. The use of fishery by-products as raw materials is anticipated to increase rapidly as the biomarket is growing into a promising industry. In this study, data were acquired from an open-source environment to perform exploratory data analysis, and various visualization methods were used to compare fishery production to the production of marine processed products in the year 2020. This study suggested that the amount of seafood processing, types of processing items, and areas where fishery processing residue is generated, should be able to secure hygienic raw material supply in large quantities. Thus far, it has been found that the Gyeonggi-do and Busan province, where HACCP-certified processing facilities are concentrated, and the local government Seafood Cluster and the Smart Aquaculture Cluster are at the forefront of stable, mass production of raw materials.
This paper is an experimental study on the optimal operating conditions of direct charging type electrospray for particulate matter collection. To perform the research, a direct charging type electrospray visualization system was configured to photograph the spray shape of microdroplets, and experiments were performed with varying electrode distance, flow rate, and applied voltage, which are the main factors affecting the particulate matter collection efficacy. Through image processing, the total number of microdroplets according to each condition was analyzed, and the number of microdroplets with a diameter of 1.5 mm or less was confirmed. In addition, by calculating the number of microdroplets per power consumption according to the applied voltage, the optimal operating conditions were derived in terms of energy consumption efficacy, and the microdroplet size distribution was analyzed under the optimal operating conditions. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the optimal operating condition was at a flow rate of 10 mL/min and a voltage of -20 kV in case of 5 mm electrode distance, and at a flow rate of 15 mL/min and a voltage of -30 kV in case of 100 mm electrode distance.
One area in which composites have been used rather extensively is for fabricating pressure vessel. These structures can be readily manufactured by filament winding, which is, as far as composite fabrication techniques are concerned, a relatively inexpensive method for producing composite structures. Unfortunately, the higher strength material and fabrication costs are not the only disadvantages of fiber-reinforced polymer composites when they are compared to metals. Additionally, these materials tend to exhibit brittle behavior. This is of particular concern when they are subjected to a low-velocity impact during routine handling a significant amount of structural damage can be introduced into the composites. The goals of this paper are to understand the impact damage behavior and identify the effect of surface coating materials on impact resistance in filament wound composite pressure vessels. For these, a series of low velocity impact tests was performed on specimens cutting from the full scale pressure vessel by the instrumented impact testing machine. The specimens are classified into two types with and without surface protective material. The visualization for impact damage is made by metallurgical microscope. Based on the impact force history and damage, the resistance parameters were employed and its validity in identifying the damage resistance of pressure vessel was reviewed. As the results, the impact resistance of the filament wound composites and its dependency on the protective material were evaluated quantitatively.
Vapor explosion is one of the most important problems encountered in severe accident management of nuclear power plants. In spite of many efforts, a lot of questions still remain for the fundamental understanding of vapor explosion phenomena. Therefore, KAERI launched a real material experiment called TROI using 20 kg of UO2 and ZrO2 to investigate the vapor explosion phenomena. In addition, a small-scale experiment with molten-tin/water system was performed to quantify the characteristics of vapor explosion and to understand the phenomenology of vapor explosion. A number of instruments were used to measure the physical change occurring during the vapor explosion. In this experiment, the vapor explosion generated by molten fuel water interaction is visualized using high speed camera and the pressure behavior accompanying the explosion is investigated.
The digital modeling process is visualization of designer's specific intension in digital virtual space by constructing computer and information system that fits the designer's intension and morphological characteristic of the space that to be modeled. Digital Modeling Process has been brought to attention for it's design efficiency and potentialities as new creative tool. The effect of DMP, in spacial design process has been grown from simply providing a ways to visualize designer's idea toward utilizing modeling data for real construction which includes architectural and constructional material. The purpose of this study is to find optimal methodological answers to spatial design process that is improved and specialized due to rapid improvement of digital media.
The Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) has been applied to many technical problems such as deformation and displacement measurement, strain visualization and surface roughness monitoring. Composite materials have various complicated characteristics depending on the ply materials, ply orientations, ply stacking sequences and boundary conditions. Therefore, it is difficult to analyze composite material. For efficient use of composit materials in engineering applications, the dynamic behavior such as, natural frequencies and modal patterns should be identified. This studying presents FEM results for the free vibration of symmetrically laminated composite as [30/-30/90] $_{s}$. The natural frequencies of laminated composite rectangular plates having the boundary condition(:2-edge clamped) are experimentally obtained. In order to demonstrate the validity of the experiment,FEM analysis using ANSYS was performed and natural frequencies experimentally obtained is compared with calculated by FEM analysis. The results obtained from both experiment and FEM analysis show a good agreement.t.
