This paper develops a nonlocal strain gradient plate model for damping vibration analysis of smart magneto-electro-viscoelastic nanoplates resting on visco-Pasternak medium. For more accurate analysis of nanoplate, the proposed theory contains two scale parameters related to the nonlocal and strain gradient effects. Viscoelastic effect which is neglected in all previous papers on magneto-electro-viscoelastic nanoplates is considered based on Kelvin-Voigt model. Governing equations of a nonlocal strain gradient smart nanoplate on viscoelastic substrate are derived via Hamilton's principle. Galerkin's method is implemented to solve the governing equations. Effects of different factors such as viscoelasticity, nonlocal parameter, length scale parameter, applied voltage and magnetic potential on damping vibration characteristics of a nanoplate are studied.

In this study the modal characteristics and responses of an asymmetric structure with added viscoelastic dampers were investigated for design parameters such as eccentricity of stiffness and added dampers, the loss factor of the damping materials used. For modal characteristics, variation of the quantities such as natural frequencies, modal damping ratios, modal participation factors, and dynamic amplification factors were observed, and displacements at flexible and stiff edges, and at center of mass were obtained. Based on the results, the problem of the optimum damper distribution to minimize the torsional effects was addressed, and the proposed method for optimum damper distribution was applied to a multi-story structure to verify the applicability Finally the effect of viscous and viscoelastic dampers were compared by varying the loss factor of the viscoelastic material.

Viscoelastic damping materials are widely used to reduce noise and vibration because of its low cost and easy implementation, for examples, on the body structure of passenger cars, air planes, electric appliances and ships. To design the damped structures, the material property such as elastic modulus and loss factor is essential information. The four-parameter fractional derivative model well describes the dynamic characteristics of the viscoelastic damping materials with respect to both frequency and temperature. However, the identification procedure of the four-parameter is very time-consuming one. In this study a new identification procedure of the four-parameters is proposed by using an FE model and a gradient-based numerical search algorithm. The identification procedure goes two sequential steps to make measured frequency response functions(FRF) coincident with simulated FRFs: the first one is a peak alignment step and the second one is an amplitude adjustment step. A numerical example shows that the proposed method is useful in identifying the viscoelastic material parameters of fractional derivative model.

This paper concerns the analytical modeling and dynamic analysis of advanced rotating blade structure implemented by a dual approach based on structural tailoring and viscoelastic material technology. Whereas structural tailoring uses the directionality properties of advanced composite materials, the passive material technology exploits the damping capabilities of viscoelastic material (VEM) embedded into the host structure. The main structure is modeled as a composite thin-walled beam Incorporating a number of nonclassical features such as transverse shear. anisotropy of constituent materials, and rotary inertia etc. The VEM layer damping treatment is modeled by using the Golla-Hughes-McTavish (GHM) method, which is employed to account for the frequency-dependent characteristics of the VEM. The displayed numerical results provide a comprehensive picture of the synergistic implications of both techniques, namely, the tailoring and damping technology on dynamic response of a thin-walled beam structure exposed to external time-dependent excitation.

Vibration-resistant rubbers, whose elastic and shear behaviors are similar to viscoelastic materials, are used to make brace-typed dampers to reduce the building vibration. Experimental study is carried out to find the vibration characteristics of the dampers installed in the building model. The natural frequencies and modal damping ratios are obtained from the free vibration test and Fourier analysis. Analytical model of the modal strain energy method are used to find the viscoelastic characteristics of the brace-typed dampers from the experimental results. Finally shaking table test is performed to find the response behavior of the building model under earthquake loading. The present experimental study shows that the brace-typed dampers have the behavior of viscoelastic dampers, which increase the modal damping ratios and viscoelastic characteristics.

Recently, owing to the high demand for eco-friendly cars in the automotive industry, noise and vibrations have become major challenges. The use of laminated damping steel is increasing in response to these demands. Laminated damping steel is primarily used in sound insulation plates. The vibration energy is converted into thermal energy due to the viscoelastic resin being located between two steel sheets and being able to damp the vibrations when an external force, such as, noise or vibration is applied to the steel plate. Laminated damping steel is chiefly applied to dash panels in automotive body parts, and because of its structure, junction technology for bonding with other components is necessary. However, there has not been sufficient research conducted on junctions. In this study, regardless of the electrode shape, in the range of 4.0 ~ 8.0 kA welding current, the same welding force and welding time were applied which were 2.8 kN and 200 m/s (12 cycles) and the tensile shear load and nugget size were analyzed after the resistance spot welding between different materials of laminated damping steel with a thickness of 1.035 mm. The results show that in the range of 5 ~ 8 kA welding current, 1.035 mm laminated damping steel meets the MS181-15 standard, which is the technical standard of Hyundai-Kia Motors.

The new type of vibration reduction material far an automotive interior, which is spray-type liquid material, is developed in this study The new material has better damping property and lower mass density than other damping materials, for example asphalt sheet. It can be sprayed by an automatic robot, so it is expected to improve productivity and cut down manpower. And it solves a poor adhesion problem and makes an automotive to be lightweight by optimizing spray process. So, It is a next generation automotive vibration reduction material. In this paper, the chemical process for making the new damping materials is described. And then, the damping properties of the vibration reduction materials are analyzed by modal testing of damping treatment specimens. The new vibration reduction materials have good damping properties than asphalt sheet in the experimental results.
This paper aims to analyze the dynamic response of a double nanobeam system with a medium viscoelastic layer under a moving load. The governing equations are based on the Eringen nonlocal theory. A thin viscoelastic layer has coupled two nanobeams together. An exact solution is derived for each nanobeam, and the dynamic deflection is achieved. The effect of parameters such as nonlocal parameter, velocity of moving load, spring coefficient and the viscoelastic layer damping ratio was studied. The results showed that the effect of the nonlocal parameter is significantly important and the classical theories are not suitable for nano and microstructures.

Based on the full layerwise displacement shell theory, vibration and damping characteristics of cylindrical sandwich panels are investigated. The transverse shear deformation and the normal strain are fully taken into account for structural damping modelling. Modal damping factors and frequency response functions are analyzed for various structural parameters of cylindrical sandwich beams. Present results shows that full layerwise theory can accurately predict vibration and damping characteristics of cylindrical composite panels with surface damping treatments and constrained layer damping. The viscoelastic materials depending on elevated temperature environment and exciting frequencies can be fully considered.

The Active Constrained Layer Damping(ACLO) combines the simplicity and reliability of passive damping with the low weight and high efficiency of active control to attain high damping characteristics. The proposed ACLD treatment consists of a viscoelastic damping which is sandwiched between an active piezoelectric layer and a host structure. In this manner, the smart ACLD consists of a Passive Constrained Layer Damping(PCLD) which is augmented with an active control in response to the structural vibrations. The Arc type shell model is introduced to describe the interactions between the vibrating host structure, piezoelectric actuator and visco damping, The system is modeled by applying ARMAX model and changing a state-space form through the system identification method. An optimum control law for piezo actuator is obtain by LQR(Linear Quadratic Regulator) Method. The performance of ACLD system is determined and compared with PCLD in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the ACLD treatment, Also, the actuation capability of a piezo actuator is examined experimentally by using various thickness of Viscoelastic Materials(VEM).
