  • We used Subaru observations of A1689 (z = 0.183) to derive an accurate, model-independent mass profile for the entire cluster, r$\le$2Mpc/h, by combining magnification bias and distortion measurements. The projected mass profile steepens quickly with increasing radius, falling away to zero at r${\~}$1.0Mpc/h, well short of the anticipated virial radius. Our profile accurately matches onto the inner profile, r $\le$200kpc/ h, derived from deep HST / ACS images. The combined ACS and Subaru information is well fitted by an NFW profile with virial mass, $(1.93 \pm 0.20) {\times}10^{15} M_{\bigodot}$, and surprisingly high concentration, $C_{vir} = 13.7^{+1.4}_{-1.1}$, significantly larger than theoretically expected ($C_{vir} {\le}4$), corresponding to a relatively steep overall profile. These results are based on a reliable sample of background galaxies selected to be redder than the cluster E/SO sequence. By including the faint blue galaxy population a much smaller distortion signal is found, demonstrating that blue cluster members significantly dilute the true signal for r $\le$ 400kpc/ h. This contamination is likely to affect most weak lensing results to date.

  • We have established a SYBR Green-based realtime PCR method using AnyDirect solution, which enhances PCR from whole blood, for direct amplification of the virA gene of Shigella flexneri and the invA gene of Salmonella typhimurium from human feces without prior DNA purification. When we compared the efficiency of conventional or realtime PCR amplification of the virA and invA genes from the supernatant of boiled feces supplemented with S. flexneri and S. typhimurium in the presence or absence of AnyDirect solution, amplification products were detected only in reactions to which AnyDirect solution had been added. The detection limit of real-time PCR was $1{\times}10^4\;CFU/g$ feces for S. flexneri and $2{\times}10^4\;CFU/g$ feces for S. typhimurium; this sensitivity level was comparable to other studies. Our real-time PCR assay with AnyDirect solution is simple, rapid, sensitive, and specific, and allows simultaneous detection of S. flexneri and S. typhimurium directly from fecal samples without prior DNA purification.

  • In Donaldson-Thomas theory, moduli spaces are locally the critical locus of a holomorphic function defined on a complex manifold. In this paper, we develop a theory of critical virtual manifolds which are the gluing of critical loci of holomorphic functions. We show that a critical virtual manifold X admits a natural semi-perfect obstruction theory and a virtual fundamental class $[X]^{vir}$ whose degree $DT(X)=deg[X]^{vir}$ is the Euler characteristic ${\chi}_{\nu}$(X) weighted by the Behrend function ${\nu}$. We prove that when the critical virtual manifold is orientable, the local perverse sheaves of vanishing cycles glue to a perverse sheaf P whose hypercohomology has Euler characteristic equal to the Donaldson-Thomas type invariant DT(X). In the companion paper, we proved that a moduli space X of simple sheaves on a Calabi-Yau 3-fold Y is a critical virtual manifold whose perverse sheaf categorifies the Donaldson-Thomas invariant of Y and also gives us a mathematical theory of Gopakumar-Vafa invariants.

  • We present a statistical analysis on the spin-orbit alignment of dark matter halo pairs in cosmological simulations. The alignment is defined as the angular concurrence between the halo spin vector (${\vec{S}}$) and the orbital angular momentum vector (${\vec{L}}$) of the major companion. We identify interacting halo pairs with the mass ratios from 1:1 to 1:3, with the halo masses of 10.8 < $Log(M_{halo}/M_{sun}$) < 13.0, and with the separations smaller than a sum of their virial radii ($R_{12}<R_{1,vir}+R_{2,vir}$). Based on the total energy ($E_{12}$), the pairs are classified into flybys ($E_{12}$ > 0) and mergers ($E_{12}{\leq}0$). By measuring the angle (${\theta}_{SL}$) between ${\vec{S}}$ and ${\vec{L}}$, we confirm a strong spin-orbit alignment signal such that the halo spin is preferentially aligned with the orbital angular momentum of the major companion. We find that the signal of the spin-orbit alignment for the flyby is weaker than that for the merger. We also find an unexpected excess signal of the spin-orbit alignment at $cos{\theta}_{SL}{\sim}0.25$. Both the strength of the spin-orbit alignment and the degree of the excess depend only on the environment. We conclude that the halo spin is determined by the accretion in a preferred direction set by the ambient environment.

  • Recently, infrared object detection(IOD) has been extensively studied due to the rapid growth of deep neural networks(DNN). Adversarial attacks using imperceptible perturbation can dramatically deteriorate the performance of DNN. However, most adversarial attack works are focused on visible image recognition(VIR), and there are few methods for IOD. We propose deep learning-based adversarial attacks for IOD by expanding several state-of-the-art adversarial attacks for VIR. We effectively validate our claim through comprehensive experiments on two challenging IOD datasets, including FLIR and MSOD.

  • We present the results of long-term simultaneous monitoring observations (~ 12 years) of H2O (22 GHz) maser and several vibrationally excited lines of SiO J = 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 masers (43, 86, 129 GHz) carried out with the 21-m antennas of the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) toward a sample of three AGB stars (RT Vir, RR Aql, IRC-10151) that are believed to be semiregular variable star, Mira variable star, and OH/IR star, respectively, according to a sequential evolutionary phase of AGB star. A total 10 transitions were observed, of which we detected H2O, SiO 𝝊 = 1 and 2, J = 1-0, SiO 𝝊 = 1, J = 2-1 and J = 3-2 maser lines in all three target objects, depending on the observational epochs. In this study, we scrutinize the evolutionary traits of each target object based on the maser line profiles, flux/velocity variations, and phase lags with the optical light curves. The IRAS two color diagram and the infrared spectral energy distributions (SEDs) in the wavelength range from 1.2 to 240 ㎛ of three observed sources were also analyzed.

  • The incidence factors of Rice stripe virus (RSV) were analyzed by studying the population density and the viruliferous insect rate (VIR) of small brown planthopper (SBPH), the incidence of stripe disease, alternate host, and susceptible cultivar in Chungnam Province. The population of overwintering SBPH had been decreasing, but the VIR of overwintering SBPH had not been differing for three years, 2008 to 2010. No RSV was detected in the natural host plants, such as short awn, annual bluegrass, and barley. In 2009, relatively large population of SBPH with the VIR of 5.4% migrated from China. However, there was no evidence relating of migration large amount of SBPH from China in 2008 and 2010. Also the infection rate of RSV in rice was less than 1% in these periods. The cultivation area of the susceptible varieties had steadily decreased from 41% to 19% from 2007 to 2009. Therefore, the reduction factors of rice stripe disease in Chungnam Province with higher influx of inoculum could be with an appropriate forecasting and chemical control, cultivation of resistant varieties, changes in the cropping system, and the low winter-spring temperature.

  • The main objective of this study was to examine structural behavior of reinforced concrete column and steel beam joint. composite specimens about 3/4 of the actual beam column connection assembly were tested by applying cyclic load through actuators. Test variables include face bearing plate(FBP), extended face bearing plate(E-FBP), VIR, U-bar and sub beam. There is not much differenced between specimens with sub beam and without sub beam. Test results also show that the joint strength of test specimen is close to the predicted strength by ASCE guideline.

  • We completed the light curves of near-contact binary system AX Dra for 11 nights from March 2001 to May using the 61-cm reflector and VR filters at Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory. From our observations, seven new times of minimum light (three timings to. primary eclipse, four. for. secondary) and the light elements consistent with recent observations were determined. Using the Wilson-Devinney binary code and the q-search method, we analyzed our VR light curves for various Roche configurations and mass ratios. As the results, we found the eclipsing binary AX Dra to be the FO Vir-type near-contact binary system interpreted as a detached or a semi-detached system, with the secondary filling its Roche lobe and the primary almost. Unlike the statistical study(Shaw 1994) of the FO Vir-type near-contact binary system, our VR light curves showed the O'Connell effect of all the same type and it's dimensions was about $0^{m}.008$.

  • These studies were carried out to select the active grow hairy root lines induced from various ginseng(Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) parts. Hairy roots were induced in root explants, stem and petiole in vitro by A. rhizogenes R1000 or A. rhizogenes $A_4$. These hairy roots could be grown on the phytohormone free medium, and PCR analysis of rol C and vir C gene fragments confirmed that hairy roots were transgenic tissues. We have selected 11 hairy root lines with active growing characters among 300 hairy root lines selected based on growth and morphological characteristics on 1/2MS solid media with 250 mg/L carbenicillin. Morphological characteristics of selected 11 hairy root lines were thickness and thiness of main roots, and many projection for lateral roots, active grow of lateral roots. Among selected 11 hair root lines prominent characteristics of hairy roots with active growing characters were thiness of main roots and active grow of lateral roots. But characteristics of low growing hairy roots were thickness of main roots and low grow of lateral roots. Finally we have selected actively growing hairy roots, KGHR-1, KGHR-5, KGHR-8 among 11 hairy root lines.
