Evaluation of Cutter Orientations in 5-Axis High Speed Milling of Turbine Blade (터빈블레이드의 5축 고속가공에서 최적가공경로의 선정)

  • Recently, the development of aerospace and automobile industries brought new technological challenges, related to the growing complexity of products and new geometry models. High speed machining using 5-Axis milling machine is widely used for 3D sculptured surface parts. 5-axis milling of turbine blade generates the vibration, deflection and twisting caused from thin and cantilever shape. So, the surface roughness and the waviness of workpiece are not good. In this paper, The effects of cutter orientation and lead/tilt angle in 5-Axis high speed ball end-milling of turbine blade were investigated to improve the geometric accuracy and surface integrity. The experiments were performed at lead/tilt angle $15^{\circ}$ of workpiece with four cutter directions such as horizontal outward, horizontal inward, vertical outward, and vertical inward. Workpiece deflection, surface roughness and machined surface were measured with various cutter orientations such as cutting direction, and lead/tilt angle. The results show that when 5-axis machining of turbine blade, the best cutting strategy is horizontal inward direction with tilt angle. Measurement of Nonlinear Time-variant Source Characteristics of Intake and Exhaust Systems in Fluid Machines

  • The acoustical sources of intake and exhaust systems in fluid machines are often characterized by the source impedance and strength using linear frequency-domain modeling. In the case of the sources which are nonlinear and time-variant, however, the source parameters were sometimes incorrectly obtained. In this paper, the source model and direct measurement technique are modified in order to evaluate the effect due to nonlinear and periodically time-varying source character as well as the linear property of the reflectivity of in-duct fluid machine source. With a priori known kinematical information of the source, the types of nonlinear time-variant terms can be presumed by a simple physical model, in which there is practically no restriction on the form of the model. The concept of source impedance can be extendable by introducing the linear frequency response function for each nonlinear or time-variant input. Extending the conventional method and adapting the reverse MISO technique, it is possible to develop a direct method that can deal with the nonlinear time-variant source parameters. The proposed direct method has a novel feature that there is no restriction on the probability or spectral natures of the excited sound pressure data. The present method is verified by the simulated measurements for simplified fluid machines. It is thought that the proposed method would be useful in predicting the insertion loss or the radiated sound level from intake or exhaust systems.

  • The paper will present chip formation mechanism and surface integrity generation mechanism based on the systematical experimental tests. Some basic factors such as the end milling cutter tooth number, cutting forces, cutting temperature, cutting vibration the chip status, the surface roughness, the hardness distribution and the metallographic texture of the machined surface layer are involved. The chip formation mechanism is typical thermal plastic shear localization at high cutting speed with less number of shear ribbons and bigger shear angle than that at low speed, which means lack of chip deformation. The high cutting speed with much more cutting teeth will be beneficial to the reduction of cutting forces, enlarge machining stability mot depression of temperature increment anti-fatigability as well as surface roughness. The burrs always exist both at low cutting speed and at high cutting speed. So the deburring process should be arranged for milling titanium alloy in my case.

  • There is an increasing interest in condition-based maintenance for the prevention of economic loss due to failure. Moreover, immense research is being carried out in related technologies in the field of construction machinery. In particular, data-based failure diagnosis methods that employ AI (machine & deep learning) algorithms are in the spotlight. In this study, we have focused on the failure diagnosis and mode classification of reduction gear of excavator's travel device by using the AI algorithm. In addition, a remote monitoring system has been developed that can monitor the status of the reduction gear by using the developed diagnosis algorithm. The failure diagnosis algorithm was performed in the process of data acquisition of normal and abnormal under various operating conditions, data processing and analysis by the wavelet transformation, and learning. The developed algorithm was verified based on three-evaluation conditions. Finally, we have built a system that can check the status of the reduction gear of travel devices on the web using the Edge platform, which is embedded with the failure diagnosis algorithm and cloud.

  • Recently as electronics and semi-conductor industry develop, ultra-precision machine tools that use air-spindle with externally pressurized air bearing appear in need of ultra-precision products which demand high precision property. Effects of air compressibility absorbs the vibration of shaft, this is called averaging effect, however, the higher running accuracy is demanded by degrees, the more important factor is machining errors that affect running accuracy of shaft. Actually, it would be very important in the view points of running accuracy to understand effects of machining errors on the running accuracy of the spindle system quantitatively to design and manufacture precision spindle system in the aspect that efficiency in manufacturing spindle system and performance in operation. So fu, there are some researches on the effects that machining error affect running accuracy. However, because these researches deal with one bearing of spindle system, these results aren't enough to explain how much machining errors affect running accuracy in the typical spindle system overall. In this study, we investigate the effects of the perpendicularity error of bearing and shaft on running accuracy of spindle system that consists of journal and thrust bearing theoretically, and suggest design guideline about shape tolerances.

  • This study dealt with effect of the grinding in SCM420H planetary gears. The hardness, tooth profile, lead and roughness of the gear surface can be improved by grinding process. Therein, the grinding techniques are widely used especially as one of the physical surface improvement methods. As the results, the gear grinding process reduced vibration and noise, and increased the life of the gear. And the gear grinding improved the surface of gear tooth in a short time and low cost, thus, it is a very important process in manufacturing industry. But nowadays, it is hard to find the detail information of gear grinding process. The test piece is a planetary gear which is used in the industrial machine. The manufacture process of the test piece contains hobbing, shaving, carburizing and grinding. This study investigated the effect of the grinding process to the physiognomy and the fatigue strength of test piece which was made by SCM420H.

Development of Digital controlled SCR type CO2 Welding System for Implementation Pulse Output (펄스 출력 구현이 가능한 디지털 제어의 SCR형 CO2 용접시스템의 개발)

  • SCR(Thyristor) type $CO_2$ welders have widely used for the welding process of heavy industries such as shipbuilding and plant. Since the industrial fields of shipbuilding and plant are usually exposed to severe welding condition with lots of dust, extreme temperature, high humidity and vibration, it is not recommended to use inverter type welder despite its state-of-the-art technology. Many sophisticated functions in the inverter welder may not work due to malfunction of its sensitive components. Hence this study focused on digitalization of SCR $CO_2$ welder by making use of microprocessor for SCR phase control. By this application, fine control of output of the $CO_2$ welding systems is achieved. Also pulse output mode of operation is realized and its verification is carried out with aluminum sample welding. The experimental results showed sound weld bead. The front operation panel provide user with numerical parameter settings and monitors. It will help precise weld process monitoring and control with digital value.

Cogging Torque Reduction in Line Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

  • Cogging torque has a negative impact on the operation of permanent magnet machines by increasing torque ripple, speed ripple, acoustic noise and vibration. In this paper Magnet Shifting Method has been used as a tool to reduce the cogging torque in inset Line Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (LSPMSM). It has been shown that Magnet Shifting Method can effectively eliminate several lower-order harmonics of cogging torque. In order to implement the method, first the expression of cogging torque is studied based on the Fourier analysis. An analytical expression is then introduced based on Permanent Magnet Shifting to reduce cogging torque of LSPMS motors. The method is applied to some existing machine designs and their performances are obtained using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The effect of magnet shifting on pole mmf (magneto motive force) distribution in air gap is discussed. The side effects of magnet shifting on back-EMF, core losses and torque profile distortion are taken into account in this investigation. Finally the experimental results on two prototypes 24 slot 4 pole inset LSPMS motors have been used to validate the theoretical analysis.

Seismic Behavior of Rotation Shaft System at Start-up (기동시 회전축계의 지진응답 거동)

  • A rotating shaft system subjected to seismic motions has been investigated for the various operating modes at start-up. During an earthquake excitation, the rotor may hit the stator of machines due to the excessive deformation of shaft, and thus the response of rotating shaft system of which foundation is supported by the vibration isolation devices has been simulated. In order to examine the transient response of the rotating shaft system at the start-up to both the various operating conditions and the seismic excitation simultaneously, nonlinear equations of motion are derived and solved numerically using Runge-Kutta method. The response of the rotating shaft system is calculated according to the operating modes as recommended by the machine and the system parameters such as the spring stiffness of isolation devices.

Applicability Estimation Compaction Method of Embankment using LWDT and Geogauge (LWDT와 Geogauge를 이용한 성토지반의 다짐관리 현장적용성 평가)

  • PBT (Plate Bearing Test) is a commonly used compaction estimation used to provide basal support for embankments. This study presents the results from experimental evaluations PBT, LWDT (Light Drop Weight Tester) test and Geogauge test with embankment materials which consist in sandy soil, crushed stone and rock. The results of this study indicate that the regression analyze results (r) from test results between Young's modulus and $k_{30}$, $E_v$ are 0.385 and 0.111~0.496, estimated very lack of correlation. The Geogauge is frequency vibration from machine to underground. Geogauge can not measure to accuracy test results when it is used on ground of the rock or crushed stone. The regression analyze results (r) from $E_v$ and Dynamic modulus are 0.502~0.847, different estimated by calculate method, as it were, when calculate $E_v$, least square method are appeared more accuracy than gradient of secant.
