  • In this paper, 3-dimensional numerical model of an escalator is developed to study the vibration characteristics. This proposed model is able to consider the elastic deformation of the frame during transient dynamic analysis. Deformation modes which are used to calculate the elastic deformation are selected from the FE model analysis. Because low frequency vibration is very important to the ride quality of fore/aft direction, low frequency deformation modes of the frame below 20Hz are considered. To show validity of this dynamics model, longitudinal acceleration of a step is compared with test data in frequency domain. Then robust design technique is applied to determine important design factors and improve ride quality with small number of experiments.

  • In this paper, static analysis of eddy current brake's frame, which is one of key structural components of brake system for high speed train, was performed in order to evaluate the design by computer simulation. Calculation was carried out in general for the driving modes 'braking' and 'frame in upper position(Brakes inactive)'. Several yield stress load cases and fatigue load cases were analysed for each of the driving modes. The fatigue load resulting from the Multi Body System simulation was also taken into consideration. The simulation results shows that some of structural part should be improved for more increasing reliability of frame.

  • Proper orthogonal decomposition(POD) is a method for extracting bases for modal decomposition from the ensemble of signals. We verified the connection of the proper orthogonal modes(POMs) and the linear normal modes(LNMs) through MATLAB simulation for the simple cantilever and AFM microcantilever models. Using the POMs, we can analyze and model effectively the dynamic mode of AFM microcantievers.

  • The sensor configuration of the magnetostrictive guided wave system can be described as a single continuous transducing element which makes it difficult to separate the individual modes from the reflected signal. In this work we develop the mode decomposition technique employing chirplet transform based on the maximum likelihood estimation, which is able to separate the individual modes from dispersive and multimodal waveform measured with the magnetostrictive sensor, and estimate the time-frequency centers and individual energies of the reflection, which would be used to locate and characterize defects. Simulation results on a carbon steel pipe are presented, which show the accurate mode separation and more discernible time-frequency representation could become enabled using the proposed technique.

  • The present paper improves the direct identification scheme based upon the equation error formulation with incomplete modal data. First, an indirect estimation technique is considered for estimating unmeasured elements of latent vectors by the combined use of a model and measured incomplete eigen vectors. It is used for estimating the other elements of eigen vectors, which are essential for identification but not available. Next an index is introduced here to indicate the quality of estimation with respect to the mode and the measured positions. A sensitivity formula for eigenvalues with respect to the unknown joint coefficient is also derived to select the modes appropriate for identification. An identification strategy is suggested to meet with practical problems with the help of the index and sensitivity formula. The index and the sensitivity are proved to be useful for selecting measurement positions and modes appropriate for identification A comprehensive simulation study is performed to test the proposed method.

  • Dynamic analysis of a three-axle heavy truck is carried out with rigid body model and flexible body model. To see the effects of chassis flexibility, the chassis is modeled as flexible body. The mass matrix, stiffness matrix, and vibration normal modes of the chassis are obtained by a finite element analysis program, and four vibration normal modes are used in the flexible body model. The vehicle model consisting of a frame, a cab, suspensions, an engine, a deck, a seat, and tires, has total 77 degrees of freedom. The result shows that the peaked acceleration in the flexible model is lower than that of the rigid body model.

  • Transducer for linear ultrasonic motor with symmetric and anti-symmetric modes was studied. The transducer was composed of two Langevin-type vibrators. In order to excite two vibration modes, Two Langevin-type vibrators must have 90-degree phase difference with each other. As result, tip of transducers moves in elliptical motion. In this paper, vibration shape of transducer was simulated and The resonant frequency and maximum displacement were calculated using the FEA (Finite Element Analysis).

  • The position control accuracy of the robot arm is decreased significantly when a long arm robot is operated at high speed. In this case, the robot arm must be modeled as a flexible structure, not a rigid one, and its control system will be necessarily designed with its elastic modes taken into account. In this paper, the vibration control of a one-link flexible robot arm is presented. The robot system consists of a flexible arm manufactured with thin aluminium plate, AC servomotor with a harmonic drive for speed reduction, optical encoder and accelerometer. The system is modeled with limited number of elastic modes, and its parameters are determined from the results of the experiments. The implemented control schemes are LQ control and sliding mode control. The experiments and digital simulations are carried out to test the validity of the system modeling, controller design, and active control implementation.

  • This paper describes the theory and verification of a method which utilizes the free decay response of a structure to determine its vibration parameters. The theory of the method is base on the formulation of a system matrix, contains information characterizing the complete set of modal parameters of the system, and its eigen-solution problem. The applicability of the method is verified by simulated free decay response data of a cantilever bean The method described was used to determined the parameters related to the first five generated modes of vibration of a cantilever beam. It involves two very close natural frequencies which could not be identified using a frequency sweep test(peak amplitude) because of interference between modes.

  • A large floating structure is attracting great attention in recent years from the view of ocean space utilization. Its huge scale in the horizontal directions compared with the wavelength and relatively shallow depth make this type of floating structure flexible and its wave-induced motion be characterized by the elastic deformation. In this paper, a boundary integral equation method is proposed to predict the wave-induced dynamic response mat-like floating offshore structure. The structure is modeled as an elastic plate and its elastic deformation is expressed as a superposition of free-vibration modes in air. This makes it straightforward to expand the well-established boundary integral technique for rigid floating bodies to include the hydroelastic effects. In order to validate the theoretical analysis, we compare with the experimental result of reduced model test. Satisfactory agreement is found between theory and experiment.
