Fuzzy Quantization and Rate Control for Very Low Bit­rate Video Coder (초저전송율 동영상 부호기를 위한 퍼지 양자화 및 율 제어에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we proposed a fuzzy controller for the evaluation of the quantization Parameters in the H.263 coder to optimize the subjective quality of each coded frame, keeping the transmission rate constant. We adopted the Mamdani method for fuzzification and the centroid method for defuzzification. The energy and entropy are correlated to features of the HVS in spatial domain, while motion vectors are used to estimate the temporal characteristics of the signal. And then, the fuzzy inputs adapted the variance and the entropy in spatial domain, and the motion vector in temporal domain. We induced the fuzzy membership function and decided the fuzzy relevance to be compatible in visual characteristics. And then, we designed FAM banks. The fuzzy technology has been applied to a practical video compression. This results is obtained an effective rate control technique, an optimum bit allocation and a high subjective quality using fuzzy quantization.

  • A new 3-D segmentation-based coding technique is proposed for transmitting the motion video with reasonablly acceptable quality even at a very low bit rate. Only meaningful motion areas are extracted by using two change detection masks and a current frame is directly segmented rather than a difference frame itself so that a good quality of image can be obtained at high compression ratios. Through the experiments, the sequence of Miss America is reconstructed with visually acceptable quality at the very high compression ratio of 360:1.

  • Recently efficient image coding algorithms using zerotree have been proposed. In these methods, the locations of nonzero wavelet coefficients are encoded with a tree structure, called zerotree, which can exploit the self-similarity of the wavelet pyramid decomposition across different scales. These are very effective, especially in low bit rate image coding. In this paper, two zerotree image coding algorithms, EZW and SPIHT, are briefly introduced, and a new zerotree searching scheme is proposed to emphasize the significance of a wavelet coefficient by its orientations as well as its scale.

Implementation of SA-DCT using a datapath (데이터패스를 이용한 SA-DCT 구현)

  • In this paper, SA (shape adaptive)-DCT is implemented using a datapath with 4 MACs (multiplication & accumulator). DCT is a well-known bottleneck of real-time video compression using MPEG-like schemes. High-speed pipelined MACs presented here implement real-time DCT. A datapath in this paper executes DCT/IDCT algorithms for QCIF 15fps(frame per second), maximum rate of VLBV(very low bitrte video) in MPEG-4. A 32bit accumulator in a MAC prevents distortion caused by fixed-point process. It can be applied to various operations such as ME (motion estimation) and MC(motion compensation) with a absolutor and a halfer.

  • 본 논문에서는 초기 비트율 부호화(very low bit-rate coding)를 위한 새로운 움직임 예측 부호화를 제안한다. 움직임 추정 및 움직임 보상은 영역 기반으로 행해지며, 움직임 보상 후 예측 오차는 DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform)를 통해 변환되어 부호화 된다. 제안된 내용으로는 이전 영상을 이용하여 역방향(backward) 움직임 추정 후 얻어지는 움직임 벡터를 이용하여 움직임 보상된 영상을 구성하고, 여기에 보상되지 않은 영역은 순방향(forward) 움직임 추정을 선택적으로 행함으로써 영상을 재구성한다. 제안된 알고리듬은 모의 실험 결과 양질의 화질을 얻었다.

Design and Analysis of Search and Rescue System using MANET (MANET를 이용한 등산객 조난 구조 시스템 설계 및 분석)

  • A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a kind of wireless ad hoc network. It is a self-configuring network of mobile nodes connected by wireless links. Infostation is a lower cost and low power system that provides very high bit rate with limited coverage. In this study, we propose search and rescue system that combines MANET of climbers with Infostations. A climber shares location information of climbers with other climbers while climbing, and delivers the information to Infostations. This system is an intermittent network due to the mobility of nodes. From the system, we can track the locations of missing climbers. Ultimately, proposed system achieves low cost and reduces memory requirement using Infestations. We also analyze the performance of the proposed system by simulation. From the performance analysis results, we expect that the proposed system will be very useful to early detect climbers' locations in emergency situations in Korea mountain areas.

A Modification of The Fuzzy Logic Based DASH Adaptation Algorithm for Performance Improvement (성능 향상을 위한 퍼지 논리 기반 DASH 알고리즘의 수정)

  • In this paper, we propose a modification of fuzzy logic based DASH adaptation algorithm(FDASH) for seamless media service in time-varying network conditions. The proposed algorithm selects more appropriate bit-rate for the next segment by the modification of the Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) and reduces the number of video bit-rate changes by applying Segment Bit-rate Filtering Module(SBFM). Also, we apply the Start Mechanism for clients not to watch the low quality videos in the very beginning stage of streaming service and add the Sleeping Mechanism to avoid any buffer overflow expected. Ultimately, we verified by using NS-3 Network Simulator that the proposed method shows better performance compared to FDASH. According to the experimental results, there is no buffer underflow/overflow within the limited buffer size, which is not guaranteed in FDASH on the other hand. Also, we confirmed that mFDASH has almost the same level of average video quality against FDASH and reduces about 50% of number of video bit-rate changes compared to FDASH in Point-to-Point network and Wi-Fi network.

  • To trnsmit moving image signals by using an object vased coding technique at the rate of 8kbps~11kbps, it is very important to minimize the bit rates used for the compression of the color information of MF-objects. This paper proposes a hybrid coding method which uses the shpae adaptive coding method and the interframe reference method selectively. Gilge's shape adaptive orthogonal coidng method is utilized for shpae adaptive coding. The interfarame reference method approximates the low-passed signals of the image by gilge's shpae adaptive orthogonalization method and then refers the approximation error signals from the high frequency signal components of th eprevious frame. The proposed method achives the bit rates reduction of 17% compared to the gilge's shape adaptive orthogonalization method and 30% rduction compared to the shape adaptive DCT in average.
