In this study, an estimation equation was proposed to predict the shear strength of RC interior beam-column connections. The proposed equation considered the effect of both truss and arch mechanisms, while the existing equations in the ACI and AIJ design codes consider only arch mechanism. In addition, the proposed equation estimates the shear strength of RC joints by considering the contribution of the vertical and horizontal steel bars on the effective compressive strength of concrete. The shear strength of RC joints calculated by the proposed equation was compared with the test results of 54 RC joints, which failed in shear before plastic hinges developed at the end of the adjacent beams. The comparison study showed that the proposed equation estimated the strength of the 54 specimens with a mean value of 1.14 and the coefficient of variation of 20%. The proposed equation provides improved prediction compared to those obtained from the equations in the ACI and AIJ design codes.
The collapse of the posterior occlusion destroys the normal occlusal plane and causes excessive wear reducing the vertical dimension. Reduced vertical dimension of occlusion causes not only aesthetic and functional problems but also overloading on the temporomandibular joints and abnormalities of muscle nerve system. In order to improve the collapsed occlusal relationship, it is necessary to consider the change of the vertical dimension. It is necessary to make a precise diagnosis and analysis before the treatment and to evaluate the adaption of patient to the new vertical dimension of occlusion. A patient with excessive overbite often has occlusal problems of tooth wear and tooth eruption. Considering these considerations, overall prosthodontic restoration is required to solve the problem. A patient of 68 year old man in this case who suffered major tooth wear and maxillary posterior teeth loss was treated with elevation of vertical dimension of occlusion by maxillary removable dental prosthesis and mandibular fixed prosthesis.
Dynamic response analysis of offshore triceratops with stiffened buoyant legs under impact and non-impact waves is presented. Triceratops is relatively new-generation complaint platform being explored in the recent past for its suitability in ultra-deep waters. Buoyant legs support the deck through ball joints, which partially isolate the deck by not transferring rotation from legs to the deck. Buoyant legs are interconnected using equally spaced stiffeners, inducing more integral action in dispersing the encountered wave loads. Two typical nonlinear waves under very high sea state are used to simulate impact and non-impact waves. Parameters of JONSWAP spectrum are chosen to produce waves with high vertical and horizontal asymmetries. Impact waves are simulated by steep, front asymmetric waves while non-impact waves are simulated using Stokes nonlinear irregular waves. Based on the numerical analyses presented, it is seen that the platform experiences both steady state (springing) and transient response (ringing) of high amplitudes. Response of the deck shows significant reduction in rotational degrees-of-freedom due to isolation offered by ball joints. Weak-asymmetric waves, resulting in non-impact waves cause steady state response. Beat phenomenon is noticed in almost all degrees-of-freedom but values in sway, roll and yaw are considerably low as angle of incidence is zero degrees. Impact waves cause response in higher frequencies; bursting nature of pitch response is a clear manifestation of the effect of impact waves on buoyant legs. Non-impact waves cause response similar to that of a beating phenomenon in all active degrees-of-freedom, which otherwise would not be present under normal loading. Power spectral density plots show energy content of response for a wide bandwidth of frequencies, indicating an alarming behaviour apart from being highly nonlinear. Heave, being one of the stiff degrees-of-freedom is triggered under non-impact waves, which resulted in tether tension variation under non-impact waves as well. Reduced deck response aids functional requirements of triceratops even under impact and non-impact waves. Stiffened group of buoyant legs enable a monolithic behaviour, enhancing stiffness in vertical plane.
We have studied general orientational characteristics of microcracks distributed in Tertiary crystalline tuff from the northeastern part of the Gyeongsang Basin. 108 sets of microcracks on horizontal surfaces of 6 rock samples from Heunghae-eup and Cheongha-myeon, Pohang-si areas were distinguished by image processing. Those microcrack sets show a distinct linear array in 38 images. Whole domain of the directional angle(${\theta}$)-frequency(N) chart for crystalline tuff can be divided into 20 domains in terms of the phases of the distribution of microcracks. From the related chart, microcrack sets show preferred orientation which are coincident with the direction of vertical common joints. Consequently, the potential for macroscopic vertical joints in a rock body can be inferred from the directional angle showing high frequency in each domain of the related chart. This joint pattern is nearly the same in Mesozoic granites from Seokmo-do, Gwanghwa-gun. From the rose diagram for orientations of microcrack in crystalline tuff, orientations of dominant sets of microcracks in terms of frequency orders reflect representative orientations of maximum principal stress acted on crystalline tuff. Meanwhile, orientations of microcracks in crystalline tuff were compared with those of open microcracks in Bulgugsa granites from the southwestern part of the Gyeongsang Basin, and vertical rift/grain planes from Mesozoic granite quarries in Korea. In regional distribution chart, the agreement of distribution pattern between above two types of microcrack sets and vertical planes suggests that microcrack systems developed in crystalline tuff probably occur regionally in Mesozoic granites in Korea.
For a hydro power plant project, the headrace tunnel having a finished diameter of 3.3 m was constructed in volcanic rocks with well-developed vertical joint and high groundwater table. The intake facility was located 20.3km upstream of the powerhouse and headrace tunnel of 20km in length and penstock of 440m in height connected the intake and the powerhouse. The typical caldera lake, Lake Toba set the geology at the site the caving of the ground caused tension cracks in the vertical direction to be developed and initial stresses at the ground to be released. High groundwater table(the maximum head of 20bar) in the area of well-connected vertical joints delayed the progress of tunnel excavation severely due to the excessive inflow of groundwater. The excavation of tunnel was made using open-shield type TBM and mucking cars on the rail. High volume of water inflowraised the water level inside tunnel to 70cm, 17% of tunnel diameter (3.9m) and hindered the mucking of spoil under water. To improve the productivity, several adjustments such as modification of TBM and mucking cars and increase in the number of submersible pumps were made forthe excavation of severe water inflow zone. Since the ground condition encountered during excavation turned out to be much worse, it was decided to adopt PC segment lining instead of RC lining. Besides, depending on the conditions of the water inflow, rock mass condition and internal water pressure, one of the invert PC segment lining with in-situ RC lining, RC lining and steel lining was applied to meet the site specific condition. With the adoption of PC segment lining, modification of TBM and other improvement, the excavation of the tunnel under severe groundwater condition was successfully completed.

The refraction expansion joints have been newly developed by complementing the problems of shock, noise, replaceability, displacement in the direction perpendicular to bridge, vertical difference, which are problems of existing expansion joints. The Refraction expansion joints are characterized by continuous surfaces with small impact and low noise. The behavior of the Refraction expansion joints performs the bridge expansion behavior by rotation of the link. In the rotational behavior of the link, the bolt is the central axis of the behavior. Therefore, it can be said that the durability of the bolt is very important. However, the theoretical and experimental verification of the bolt durability of the Refraction expansion joint is lacking. In this paper, to verify the fatigue durability of the bolt, test specimens with a 300 mm Refraction expansion joint were fabricated. A strain gauge dedicated to the bolt was installed inside the manufactured test specimen bolt. The test method was applied in accordance with KS F 4425. The fatigue durability of the bolts assembled inside the diaphragm expansion joint was confirmed by the repeated fatigue test of 2,000,000 cycles.

Piping systems are crucial facilities used in various industries, particularly in areas related to daily life and safety. Piping systems are fixed to the main structures of buildings and facilities but do not support external loads and serve as non-structural elements performing specific functions. Piping systems are affected by relative displacements owing to phase differences arising from different behaviors between two support points under seismic loads; this can cause damage owing to the displacement-dominant cyclic behavior. Fittings and joints in piping systems are representative elements that are vulnerable to seismic loads. To evaluate the seismic performance and limit states of fittings and joints in piping systems, a high-stroke actuator is required to simulate relative displacements. However, this is challenging because only few facilities can conduct these experiments. Therefore, element-level experiments are required to evaluate the seismic performance and limit states of piping systems connected by fittings and joints. This study proposed a method to evaluate the seismic performance of an elbow specimen that includes fittings and joints that are vulnerable to seismic loads in vertical piping systems. The elbow specimen was created by connecting straight pipes to both ends of a 90° pipe elbow using flexible groove joints. The seismic performance of the elbow specimen was evaluated using a cyclic loading protocol based on deformation angles. To determine the margin of the evaluated seismic performance, the limit states were assessed by applying cyclic loading with a constant amplitude.

Gait is walking attitude and indicating state. The body's gait is a good mix in the center of body mechanics and exercises to wake up gently at the same time switch is a pass which is complicated at legs various joints. The shifting action what swing phase and stance phase rhythmic movement of body. One from piece moves with different dot. Especially plain walking and stair walking as a vehicle has been used frequently. Characteristics of the stair walking while the balanced the horizontal and vertical movement. Stair walking often takes place in everyday. It requires large range more than walking at plain in the moment and joint range of gait motion. And consistently applied to joints and various types of loads at legs joint may involve joint disorders. In this study, spastic cerebral palsy existing artificial limbs for disabled people when developing calibration equinus deformity patients induce muscle pain when walking on stairs independently, to reduce the research. Comparing the characteristics of the walking up the stairs for analysis patellofemoral joint pain as a result it is to provide engineering data.

The paper presents the results of shaking table test conducted on the 1/3.3 scaled large concrete panel model. The behaviors of large concrete panel structures subjected to seismic excitations are controlled by capacity of horizontal and vertical joints. To Study the seismic capacity of the large concrete panel structures, experimental researches for joints and structural assemblage are needed. Especially, since the magnitude of seismic loads are depended on the variation of time, period and accelerations, dynamic test is needed for estimating the seismic resistance of large concrete panel structures. The objective of this paper is to study the behaviors of large concrete panel structures on seismic excitations and to estimate the safety. Test results are as follows : 1) Test model was critically damaged in the first floor horizontal joint by rocking. 2) Elastic limit(0.12kg) of test model was 5times higher than that of korean seismic design code. 3) Maxium base shear of test model at the ground acceleration of 0.12g was 3.5 times higher than the result of equivalent static analysis. 4) Damping ratio of test model turned out 3.9~5.3% and the period at 0.12g was 0.065sec.

A two-dimensional biomechanical model was developed in order to calculated the lower extremity kinematics and kinetics during level walking. This model consists of three segments : the thigh, calf, and foot. Each segment was assumed to be a rigid body ; its motion to be planar in the sagittal plane. Five young males were involved in the gait experiment and their anthropometric data were measured for the calculation of segmental masses and moments of inertial. Six markers were used to obtain the kinematic data of the right lower extremity for at least three trials of walking at 1.0m/s, and simultaneously a Kistler force plate was used to obtain the foot-floor reaction data. Based on the experimental data acquired for the stance phase of the right foot, calculated vertical joint forces reached up to 0.91, 1.05, and 1.11 BW(body weight) at the hip, the knee, the ankle joints, respectively. The flexion-extension moments reached up to 69.7, 52.3, and 98.8 Nm in magnitude at the corresponding three joints. It was found that the calculated joint loadings of a subject were statistically the same for all his three trials, but not the same for all five subjects involved in the gait study.
