This study was performed to investigate constraint effects of deformation (heaving, lateral displacement) of clayey foundation reinforced with sheet pile at the tip of banking on soft ground, under intact state (natural) and the state of vertical drain respectively. The following results are obtained. 1. In view of reduction in heaving or lateral displacement, sheet pile is not supposed to be of use. 2. Sheet pile is effective only when vertical drain is installed for acceleration of consolidation and gradual loading is applied.

For train vibration influence assessment of newly constructed buildings in building design levels, 4 train measured vibration acceleration responses were used to compare with TR theory values and suitability of TR values was proposed. Through this TR method, construction planned grounds located near railroad areas were selected and ground vibration measurement was conducted. Through natural frequency by MIDAS, vertical acceleration response, and ground frequency from measured vibration response, TR was calculated and vibration prediction was conducted. As a result of comparing acceleration response estimate applying TR and measured value of train vibration acceleration response, it was found that it was in 3.61%~37.1% of margin of error. Clear peak of 7.19~10.61Hz in KTX, Gyungeuisun, and cement train were confirmed.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in the head and tibial acceleration signal magnitudes, and their powers and shock attenuations between flat-footed and normal-footed running. Methods : Ten flat-footed and ten normal-footed subjects ran barefoot on a treadmill with a force plate at 3.22m/s averaged from their preferred running speed using heel-toe running pattern while the head and tibial acceleration in the vertical axis data was collected. The accelerometers were sampled at 2000 Hz and voltage was set at 100 mv, respectively. The peak magnitudes of the head and tibial acceleration signals in time domain were calculated. The power spectral density(PSD) of each signal in the frequency domain was also calculated. In addition to that, shock attenuation was calculated by a transfer function of the head PSD relative to the tibia PSD. A one-way analysis of variance was used to determine the difference in time and frequency domain acceleration variables between the flat-footed and normal-footed groups running. Results : Peaks of the head and tibial acceleration signals were significantly greater during flat-footed group running than normal-footed group running(p<.05). PSDs of the tibial acceleration signal in the lower and higher frequency range were significantly greater during flat-footed running(p<.05), but PSDs of the head acceleration signal were not statistically different between the two groups. Flat-footed group running resulted in significantly greater shock attenuation for the higher frequency ranges compared with normal-footed group running(p<.05). Conclusion : The difference in impact shock magnitude and frequency content between flat-footed and normal-footed group during running suggested that the body had different ability to control impact shock from acceleration. It might be conjectured that flat-footed running was more vulnerable to potential injury than normal-footed running from an impact shock point of view.

In this study, it was to investigate the possibility to use the converts slag, by product in producing steel as a substitute material with sand that is used fur a civil construction materials, in developing techniques to use converts slag to improve soft clay ground. To do this, it was investigated the physical and mechanical properties of the converts slag as a civil construction material. For this, cylindrical cell consolidation with a single vertical drains and large scale soil box test were performed. Through large scale soil box test, the applicability of the converts slag to the present vertical drain techniques which is dependent on sand and plastic drains was studied. As a result of that, it was found that the shape of inserted drains was maintained after completing a consolidation process of a soft clay with slag drains. In addition, we could find that the slag drains showed the similar results with sand drains in soft clay by analyzing the effect of acceleration of consolidation.
This study presents an experimental technique to monitor the dynamic behavior of the railway bridge system simultaneously using multiplexed fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. The measuring quantities include stains, curvatures, vertical deflections, and vertical accelerations. The strains are directly measured from multiplexed FBG sensors at various locations of the test bridge followed by curvature calculations based on the plane section assumption. Vertical deflections are then estimated using the Bernoulli beam theory and regression analysis. Finally, vertical accelerations are obtained from the numerical differentiation in time domain. In order to verify the proposed method, several conventional electric strain gauges, displacement transducers, and accelerometers are installed at the mid-span of the bridge for comparisons. A test train is passed over the bridge to monitor the dynamic response of the bridge. The monitoring results show that the multiplexed FBG sensing system is able to capture the essential behavior of the test bridge while resolving wiring problem in practice.
This paper aims for analyzing the vibration serviceability of train by simply expressing its vertical vibration when it passes a railway bridge. For this purpose, bridge-train transfer function was derived and bridge-train interaction analysis was performed by using the derived function. The bridge-train transfer function was developed with the assumption that train is a single mass-spring system, and bridge-train interaction analysis was performed on simple beams of KTX passenger car. The vertical acceleration signals of passenger cars obtained from bridge-train interaction analysis were compared with them of cars obtained from the bridge-train transfer function. As a result, it could be estimated to express the vertical vibration inside the passenger car required for vibration serviceability evaluation by using the vertical vibration of bridges obtained from moving load analysis. Therefore, it may be possible to evaluate the vibration serviceability of railway bridges considering bridge-train interaction effect.

In this paper, an acceleration based passenger evacuation simulation is performed. In order to describe a passenger‘s behavior in an evacuation situation, a passenger is modeled as a rigid body which translates in the horizontal plane and rotates along the vertical axis. The position and rotation angle of a passenger are calculated by solving the dynamic equations of motions at each time step. The destination force, the contact force, and the group force are considered as external forces and the moments due to each force are also considered. With the passenger model proposed in this paper, the test problems in International Maritime Organization, Maritime Safety Committee/Circulation 1238(IMO MSC/Circ.1238) are implemented and the effects of passenger rotation on the evacuation time are confirmed.

MEMS accelerometer provides a low cost alternative in retrieving the acceleration signal for motion sensing. Theoretically, displacement can be calculated by double integrate the acceleration signal. However, in practical, it could not be done in straight forward manner due to several factors that exist in the real world. This experiment focuses on the processes from practical accelerometer signal acquisition till the result of double integration for low frequency vertical motion.
From a ship's safe operation point of view, it is very important to estimate the navigational safety in a seaway. The seakeeping performance can be defined as the ability of a ship to go to sea, and to accomplish its missions successfully and safely even in adverse environmental conditions. There are several factors presently adopted for evaluating seakeeping performance. But a hardware of the system considering all these factors has not been developed since some of them can not be measured by sensors. In this paper, a synthetic method of evaluating navigational safety is developed by measuring the vertical and lateral acceleration. An experiment by using real measuring carried out on board the T/S 'HANNARA' The equipment was measured every 4 hours for more than 30 minutes the acceleration by accelerometer, analyzed its acceleration values and calculated navigational dangerousness. As the results of this on board experiment, the system is carried conviction to be useful as evaluating seakeeping performance.

Adopting articulated bogie system, the HSR350x and KTX have similar physical mechanical characteristic, but they show different dynamic characteristics due to different position of suspensions and those physical properties. The low level vibration frequency which effects on the ride comfort of passengers and the high level vibration frequency which is related to noise of vehicle have been measured by accelerometers mounted on Wheel sets, Bogies and Car bodies to analysis the dynamic characteristics of the High-Speed Trains. The KTX number 36 is utilized to measure the lateral and vertical acceleration value of car body, and total measurement system of HSR350x have been used to acquire acceleration data. The sampling frequency of data is 500Hz generally, but the Car body at TT2 of HSR350 has 1000Hz exceptionally.
