  • This paper is focused on the procedure of the development of a micro air vehicle which has vertical take-off and landing capability for indoor reconnaissance mission. Trade studies on mission feasibility led to the proposal of a coaxial rotorcraft configuration as the platform. The survey to provide a guide for preliminary design were conducted based on commercial off-the-shelf platform, and the rotor performance was estimated by the simple momentum theory. To determine the initial size of the micro air vehicle, the modified conventional fuel balance method was applied to adopt for electric powered vehicle, and the sizing problem was optimized with the sequential quadratic programming method using MATLAB. The designed rotor blades were fabricated with high strength carbon composite material and integrated with the platform. The developed coaxial rotorcraft micro air vehicle shows stable handling quality with manual flight test in indoor situation.

  • Intertidal macroalgae are regularly exposed to hypo- or hypersaline conditions which are stressful. However, red algae in New Zealand are generally poorly studied in terms of salinity tolerance. Consequently, two native (Bostrychia arbuscula W. H. Harvey [Ceramiales], Champia novae-zelandiae [J. D. Hooker & Harvey] Harvey [Rhodymeniales]) and one introduced red algal taxon (Schizymenia spp. J. Agardh [Nemastomatales]) were exposed for 5 days in a controlled salt stress experiment to investigate photosynthetic activity and osmotic acclimation. The photosynthetic activity of B. arbuscula was not affected by salinity, as reflected in an almost unchanged maximum quantum yield (Fv/Fm). In contrast, the Fv/Fm of C. novae-zelandiae and Schizymenia spp. strongly decreased under hypo- and hypersaline conditions. Treatment with different salinities led to an increase of the total organic osmolyte concentrations with rising salt stress in B. arbuscula and Schizymenia spp. In C. novae-zelandiae the highest organic osmolyte concentrations were recorded at SA 38, followed by declining amounts with further hypersaline exposure. In B. arbuscula, sorbitol was the main organic osmolyte, while the other taxa contained floridoside. The data presented indicate that all three red algal species conspicuously differ in their salt tolerance. The upper intertidal B. arbuscula exhibited a wide salinity tolerance as reflected by unaffected photosynthetic parameters and strong sorbitol accumulation under increasing salinities, and hence can be characterized as euryhaline. In contrast, the introduced Schizymenia spp. and native C. novae-zelandiae, which preferentially occur in the mid-intertidal, showed a narrower salinity tolerance. The species-specific responses reflect their respective vertical positions in the intertidal zone.

  • Purpose: The aims of the present study were 1) to quantitatively evaluate the extent of sinus pneumatization and 2) to determine the factors affecting sinus pneumatization. Methods: Based on implant treatment records, a list of patients who underwent implant placement on the posterior maxilla was obtained. Among them, patients with pre-extraction and post-extraction (before implant placement) panoramic radiographs were selected. After excluding radiographs with low resolution and image distortion, the radiographs before and after extraction were superimposed using computer software. Subsequently, the extent of sinus pneumatization (the vertical change of the sinus floor) was measured. Simple and multiple mixed models were used to determine the factors affecting sinus pneumatization. Results: A total of 145 patients were eligible for the present investigation. The average extent of sinus pneumatization was 1.56±3.93 mm at 176 tooth sites. Male sex, single tooth extraction, extraction of an endodontically compromised tooth, a class I root-sinus relationship, and sinus membrane thickening >10 mm favored pneumatization, but without statistical significance. The maxillary second molar presented the greatest pneumatization (2.25±4.39 mm) compared with other tooth types. This finding was confirmed in the multiple mixed model, which demonstrated a statistically significant impact of the extraction of a second molar compared with the extraction of a first premolar. Conclusions: Maxillary sinus pneumatization was 1.56±3.93 mm on average. The extraction of a second molar led to the greatest extent of pneumatization, which should be considered in the treatment plan for this tooth site.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare changes in soft and hard tissue and the histologic composition following early implant placement in sites with alveolar ridge preservation or spontaneous healing (SH), as well as implant performance up to 1 year after crown insertion. Methods: Thirty-five patients with either intact buccal bone plates or dehiscence of up to 50% following single-tooth extraction of incisors, canines, or premolars were included in the study. They were randomly assigned to undergo one of three procedures: deproteinized bovine bone mineral with 10% collagen (DBBM-C) covered by a collagen matrix (DBBM-C/CM), DBBM-C alone, or SH. At 8 weeks, implant placement was carried out, and cone-beam computed tomography scans and impressions were obtained for profilometric analysis. Patients were followed up after the final crown insertion and again at 1 year post-procedure. Results: Within the first 8 weeks following tooth extraction, the median height of the buccal soft tissue contour changed by -2.11 mm for the DBBM-C/CM group, -1.62 mm for the DBBM-C group, and -1.93 mm for the SH group. The corresponding height of the buccal mineralized tissue changed by -0.27 mm for the DBBM-C/CM group, -2.73 mm for the DBBM-C group, and -1.48 mm for the SH group. The median contour changes between crown insertion and 1 year were -0.19 mm in the DBBM-C/CM group, -0.09 mm in the DBBM-C group, and -0.29 mm in the SH group. Conclusions: Major vertical and horizontal ridge contour changes occurred, irrespective of the treatment modality, up to 8 weeks following tooth extraction. The DBBM-C/CM preserved more mineralized tissue throughout this period, despite a substantial reduction in the overall contour. All 3 protocols led to stable tissues for up to 1 year.

  • This study aimed to provide basic data for establishing the clinical basis for dental hygienist-led dental hygiene process of care by identifying multiple risk factors for self-support program participants in Gangneung city; we also compared oral health status and behavioral changes through customized oral health care. Four dental hygienists who were evaluated for degree of conformity provided dental hygiene process of care to eight self-support program participants who were selected as having an oral health risk among people in the self-support center. The clinical indicators measured during dental hygiene assessment and evaluation and behavioral changes due to dental hygiene intervention were compared and analyzed. With respect to clinical indicators, at the time of probe, the retention rate of patients with gingival bleeding decreased from 61.4% to 14.7% after intervention (p=0.004). Furthermore, the retention rate of patients with a periodontal pocket >4 mm decreased from 15.6% to 5.8% (p=0.001). The average modified O'Leary index of the patients improved from 23 to 40 (p=0.002). Previously, all eight subjects used the vertical or horizontal method of brushing; after dental hygiene care interventions regarding method and frequency of toothbrushing, use of oral care products, and individual interventions, they started using the rolling or Bass method of toothbrushing. Four of eight subjects reported using interdental toothbrushes after intervention. As a result of applying the change model to the transtheoretical behavior change of the subject, the result of strengthening the health behavior was confirmed. For promotion of oral health by the prevention-centered incremental oral health care system, dental hygienist-led dental hygiene management and maintenance is essential. It is thought that continuous research, such as for feasibility evaluation, cost benefit analysis, and preparation of legal systems, is needed to establish and activate dental hygiene management.

  • Surface wave techniques were initially based on 2-D plane waves and were later improved to the techniques based the 3-D based cylindrical waves. However, body-wave interference, near-field effect and limited technology in surface wave measurements restricted the use of 3-D cylindrical waves to the 1-D evaluation of subgrade stiffness. In this study, by the numerical simulation of SASW measurements, the dispersion properties of surface waves including vertical, horizontal Rayleigh waves and Love waves were thoroughly investigated in the 3-D domain, and a new filter criteria to minimize the near-field effect was established, which led to CAP (common-array-profiling)-SASW technique. The CAP-SASW technique enabled the evaluation of subgrade stiffness fur a specific subgrade segment, not for a whole section of measurement array. Therefore, a contour plot of subgrade stiffness with a ground-truth quality can be obtained by the CAP-SASW technique. The procedure proposed in this study was verified by comparing the shear-wave velocity profiles with the shear-wave velocity profiles of downhole testing at two geotechnical sites.

  • A crown-root fracture is defined as a fracture involving enamel, dentin, and cementum. The fractures may be grouped according to pulpal involvement into uncomplicated and complicated. Generally a vertically crown-root fractured tooth must be extracted. However, it should be mentioned that the cases have been reported where bonding of the coronal fragment has led to consolidation of the intraalveolar part of the fracture. Definitive conservative therapy comprises one of four treatment alternatives; fragment removal only, fragment removal with gingivectomy, orthodontic extrusion of apical fragment, and surgical extrusion of apical fragment. The choice is primarily determined by the exact information on the site and the type of fracture, but the cost and the complexity of treatment can also be decisional factors. On the other hand, intentional replantation of the teeth with vertical root facture reconstructed with resin bonding has emerged as a new promising method in recent years. This case presents an intentional replantation of the crown-root fractured maxillary central incisor reconstructed with resin bonding. However, an obvious increase of radiolucency was observed after 4 months and the tooth was re-fractured after 16 months.

  • The objective of this research was to develop a practical integrated approach using extracted features from electrical resistance measurements and coupled electromechanical models of damage, for in-situ damage detection and sensing in carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) composites. To achieve this objective, we introduced specific known damage (in terms of type, size, and location) into CFRP laminates and established quantitative relationships with the electrical resistance measurements. For processing of numerous measurement data, an autonomous data acquisition system was devised. We also established a specimen preparation procedure and a method for electrode setup. Coupon and panel CFRP laminate specimens with several known damage were tested. Coupon specimens with various sizes of artificial delaminations obtained by inserting Teflon film were manufactured and the resistance was measured. The measurement results showed that increase of delamination size led to increase of resistance implying that it is possible to sense the existence and size of delamination. A quasi-isotropic panel was manufactured and electrical resistance was measured. Then three different sizes of holes were drilled at a chosen location. The panel was prepared using the established procedures with six electrode connections on each side making a total of twenty-four electrodes. Vertical, horizontal, and diagonal pairs of electrodes were chosen and the resistance was measured. The measurement results showed the possibility of the established measurement system for an in-situ damage detection method for CFRP composite structures.

  • The phase in digital technology expedited low-budget digital film productions in the Korean film industry; hence the international film festivals circuit became the launching pad for Korean directors as they built their reputation and careers around the critical acclaim. Pieta (Kim Ki-Duk)'s Claim on Golden Lion prize at the Venice Film Festival in 2012 would be one of the splendid achievements - the festival is considered to be one of the top the international film festival. However, the increased volume of the low-budget digital film productions are not necessarily proportional to the growth in the quality of the productions. The drawbacks to the production system appeared to be the underlying cause. In attempt to approach the issue, this article explores the production system from 2000 until now. It is illustrated that the value chain model has been transformed from general ones into vertical & horizontal integrated ones. A notable example of successful indie bands-around Hongik university area-, as well the analysis on the low-budget hit productions, especially from the mid-2000's, are introduced as the case studies. The strategies that led the success, such as subsidies policy, the tax benefits on investment firms and production companies, and the aid in international film festival submissions on low-budget digital film productions, are thus examined with further suggestions.

  • In order to measure runoff and soil losses produced in a small test plot during rainfall, it is usually insufficient to use a tank only, necessitating the combined use of a main tank and a subsidiary tank. Accordingly. exact measurement largely depends on how to connect those two measuring tanks. The main purpose of this thesis is to improve the connecting parts of two measuring tanks so as to assure exact measurement of runoff and soil losses. In this experiment, two types of main tank, i. e. A-type and B-type, were used. A-type is a square tank having a flume at its end. At the flume, ten apertures are provided by using metal columns so as to be able to catch one tenth of total muddy flow discharging at the end of the flume, One tenth of total flow is led to the subsidiary tank through a slot sampler fixed to an aperture. B-type differes in that its flume does not have apertures and slot sampler is fixed directly to the end of the flume, other features being the same as those of A-type. Discharge volumes were measured by using weighing tanks and compared. The effect of baffle screen provided in the flume was also observed in connection with exact measurements. In order to keep main tank and its flume in a horizontal position, bolts and nuts mechanism was used. Vertical and horizontal screens were provided in the main to prevent coarse sands coming into the flume. The conclusion derived through this experiment is as follows: (1) The discharge through slot sampler at each aperture is almost the same for A-type. However, it is slightly more than one tenth of total discharge volume. (2) In case that baffle screen is provided in the flume of A-type tank, the discharge volume of slot sampler is less than that of the same type without screen. (3) For B-type tank, slot sampler discharge increases as slot sampler nears toward the center of flume. (4) When baffle screen is provided in the flume of B-type, slot sampler discharge is less than that of the same type without screen, and this phenomenon is more apparent as compared with A-type. (5) In case that the slot width of slot sampler for B-type is one inch, slot sampler discharge exceeds one tenth of total discharge volume. (6) When the slot width for B-type is 15/16 inch and slot sampler is fixed 3/8 inch apart from either flume wall, slot sampler discharge is approximately equal to one tenth of total discharge volume.
