  • The most of conventional ultrasonic transducers are constructed to generate either longitudinal or shear waves, but not both of them. We investigated the mechanism of dual mode transducers that generates both of the longitudinal and shear waves simultaneously with a single PZT element. The study has been aimed to find the desired cut by the examining the piezoelectric properties. Theory predicts that a mixed P/S mode transducer can be constructed using a related Z-cut of a PZT ceramics. We studied the performance of a PZT element as a function of its rotation angle so that its efficiency is optimized to excite the two waves equally strongly. The results are verified by checking the impedance variation of the element with Finite Element Methods, and chocking the wave form by pulse-echo test simulation.   • The need of comfortable car and the efforts to overcoming the noise regulations on passenger cars bring about a series of studies on the ruduction of exhaust noises. In this study, acoustic characteristics of various components that compose mufflers of automobiles were analyzed theoretically, and the program which predicts the performance of mufflers was developed by the transfer matrix approach. The simulations were verified by the experiments on a real muffler. By using the developed simulation program, we investigate the effects of each component on the entire muffler system and the energy loss coefficient on absorption materials in the front muffler. Finally, we proposed two designs to improve the performance of a muffler and verified the improved performance by the experiments and simulations.

  • In this paper, a neuro-fuzzy observer system is designed using neuro-fuzzy system for speed control of AC servo motor. This neuro-fuzzy observer is proposed to with the problems occur in the Luenberger observer and sliding observer. The problems of Luenberger and sliding observer are to have to know the dynamics and internal parameters of the system. Performance of the neuro-fuzzy observer system has verified through the experiment with dynamometer load. It is shown that feasibility of the neuro-fuzzy observer is verified.

  • In the present, we have developed high strength concrete for the sleepers of high speed rail and verified its applicability by in-situ applications. Concrete for sleepers is manufactured by steam curing at low temperature(below 55$^{\circ}C$), and should be finished its manufacturing process such as placing, curing, demolding and prestressing in 24 hours. The sleepers need its compressive strength above 350kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in 15 hours, air-entrainment for durability and nominal design strength of 600kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, considering its quality variation at factory. We performed the optimum mix design of concrete and verified the rightness of the use of TYPE III cement. Finally, we have confirmed the manufactured sleepers satisfy the required material properties through in-situ application.

Low Power Design of the Neuroprocessor

  • This paper presents the performance analysis for CPL based design of a Low power digital neuroprocessor. We have verified the functionality of the components at the high level using Verilog and carried out the simulations in Silos. The components of the proposed digital neuroprocessor have also been verified at the layout level in LASI. The layouts have then been simulated and analyzed in Winspice for their timing characteristics. The result shows that the proposed digital neuroprocessor consistently consumes less power than other designs of the same function. It can also be seen that the proposed functions have lesser propagation delay and thus higher speed compared to the other designs.

  • The engine intake system noise has been recognized as a problem for many years. Acoustic design of intake system has traditionally been a trial and error process. This has resulted in the development of computer simulation program for a acoustic analysis and acoustic modeling. In this study, we developed the program based on the transfer matrix method which analyze and predict the performance of a intake noise. The program was verified by experiments on a real intake system. By using of the simulation program, we analyzed acoustic characteristics and, made proposals of improvement to reduce the intake noise and was verified by the SYSNOISE software.

  • On the basis of the development of KSLV-1, KoDSat was designed and manufactured to demonstrate the performance of KSLV-1. KoDSat is exposed to a severe vibrational environment at launch. The structural reliability of KoDSat has to be verified using vibrational test. The structural compatibility and verification of components between analysis and test can be proved using environmental vibration test. In this paper, we review the structural characteristic of thruster control unit for a space launch vehicle and design TCU housing using mathematical model. In order to verify the structural compatibility and reliability, half-sine shock, random and sing sweep vibration test was performed. Especially, sing sweep vibration test result is compared with analysis result and mathematical model is verified.

  • In this paper, we newly propose a novel control strategy of a three joints-robot finger for the purpose of artificial hands. The robot finger is specifically modeled by using a 3D CAD program (CATIA), considering human fingers, and then the proposed control method is verified through the dynamic simulation tool (Simulink and Recurdyn R2). Each slider is individually controlled to be located at the optimal positions where the maximal joint torque can be generated. To prove the effectiveness of the proposed control method, we devise two cases for the reference position of sliders. By comparing the control performance of two cases, the validity of the proposed control method will be verified.

  • SK (SPR Kinds) index, which can categorize the complicated measurement methods of surface plasmon resonance by simple method, has been proposed and verified. SK index is composed of three digits, where each digit presents the type of immobilized ligand, the type of illumination and the kinds of varying parameter, sequentially. The measurement method of (33#) series among SK indices shows the possibility of the multi-sensing capability, by which the response of 2-dimensional array of immobilized ligands can be detected simultaneously. The proposed possibility of multi-sensing capability has been verified by the modeling that is based on Fresnel reflection model.

  • A new model utilizing a transfer function was proposed in the previous paper fur analizing motion errors of hydrostatic tables. Validity of the proposed method was theoretically verified as the calculated motion errors were compared with the results by conventional multi pad method. In this paper, relationship between form error of rail and motion errors of hydrostatic table is analized theoretically in order to comprehand so-called ‘averaging effect of oil film’. Experiments on the motion errors of hydrostatic table is conducted with 3 different rails, and the results are compared with the results calculated by Transfer Function Method. The results show good agreement. From the results, it is verified that TFM is very effective to analize the motion errors of hydrostatic table.
