  • The distribution of Coreoperca kawamebari was known to be restricted to the Tamjin River and several small streams flowing into the southern part of the West Sea, while C. herzi was widely distributed throughout South Korea except the areas inhabited by C. kawamebari: the two species were known to be allopatric. However, we found that both species were sympatric in the Boseong River, a tributary of the Seomjin River, and the Jiseok Stream, a tributary of the Yeongsan River. Local-scale distribution of the two Coreoperca species, fish assemblages, and environmental variables were surveyed to investigate effects of environmental factors on fish community structures in the Boseong River. Rank abundance distribution of fish community at the study sites indicated that fish species diversity and distribution pattern of the two Coreoperca species were closely related to habitat diversity. The result of canonical correspondence analysis showed that C. kawamebari was distributed in pool areas while C. herzi was found in the areas with higher water velocity and boulder substrate. These results suggested that species diversity of fish community decreased and only one of the two Coreoperca species inhabited at the sites with less diverse habitat, but on the other hand, high habitat diversity increased species diversity and allowed the two species to coexist.

  • The objectives of this study were to test geothermal conductivity (k), water velocity, water quantity, and pipe pressure from a ground heat exchanger in the field, and then to analyze these data in relation to the effectiveness and economical efficiency for application of geothermal energy. After installation of the apparatus required for field tests, geothermal conductivity values were obtained from three different cases (second, third, and fourth). The k values of the second case (506 m depth) and third case (151 m depth) are approximately 2.9 and 2.8, respectively. The k value of the fourth case (506 m depth, double pipe) is 2.5, which is similar to the second and third cases. This result indicates that hole depth is a critical factor for geothermal applications. Analysis of the field data (k, water velocity, water quantity, and pipe pressure) reveals that a single geothermal system at 506 m depth is more economically efficient than three geothermal systems at depths intervals of 151 m. Although it is more expensive to install a geothermal system at 506 m depth than at 151 m depth, test results showed that the geothermal system of the fourth case (506 m, double pipe) is more economically efficient than the system at 151 m depth. Considering the optional cost of maintenance, which is a non-operational expense, the geothermal system of the fourth case is economically efficient. Large cities and areas with high land prices should make greater use of geothermal energy.

  • In this study, the 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was performed in relation to the internal fluid characteristics, flow distribution, air mean ages, and residence time for the development of the most optimal model in the complex post-disposal device. As it is expected that a channeling (drift) would be made by the semi-dry reactor due to the large difference in the flow distribution by the compartment in the bag filter, a structural improvement should be urgently made for more uniformed flow distribution in the bag filter. In addition, it showed the possibility that the velocity field and distribution characteristics of the residence time could be improved through a modification to inlet structure of the spray dryer reactor. The complex post-disposal device, modified and supplemented with this analysis, integrated the semi-dry reactor and the bag filter in a single body, so it follows that the improvement can make the device compact, the installation area, the operation fee, and management more convenient.

  • This study proposes the characteristics of the pressure drop in a compressible fluid through porous media for application to a porous injector in a liquid rocket engine in order to improve the uniformity of the drop size distribution and the mixing performance of shear coaxial injectors. The fluid through the porous media is a Non-Darcy flow that shows a Nonlinear relation between the pressure drop and the velocity at high speed and high mass flow rate. The pressure drop of the Non-Darcy flow can be derived using the Forchheimer equation that includes the losses of viscous and inertia resistance. The permeability and Ergun coefficient represented as a function of the pressure drop and pore size can be applied to the porous injector, where the fluid through the porous media is compressible. A generalized correlation between the pressure drop in relation to the pore size was derived.

  • The local scour in waves can be thought of as very complex synthetic processes which is influenced by geology of bed material, bed flow in the sea and hydraulics condition. The most research until now be targeted at the scour depth and therefore the local scour width in waves has not been investigated as well. The size of wave or bottom velocity at the bed is direct cause of the local scour among lots of the scour effect factors, and the scour depth and width can be estimated through interrelationship analysis with scour area to use the dimensionless parameters including these such as Keulegan-Carpenter number, Ursell number etc. In this paper, to find out closely relation with the dimensionless parameters and scour width, performed an experiment with the variations of pipe diameters, wave heights and wave periods and then analyzed it. As the result, while Reynolds number and period parameter were seen to disperse local scour width largely, Shields number, KC number and Ursell number appeared good interrelationship. Specially, Shields number doesn't much affect the scour depth but has good relation for the scour width.

  • Lately rainfall characteristics that it rains a lot in a short space of time often occurs. Because of this meteorological phenomena, the flow rate and concentration of initial rainfall for runoff and combined sewer overflows are changed. In the case of this inlet fluctuation, the flotation method at high surface loading rate is suitable for water quality management. the flotation method is able to meet the removal rate requirements of water public zone in 5 to 10 min which is irelatively short period. For assessment and diagonision of flotation method, A/S ratio is applied until now. But unfortunately, this has some limits for evaluation standard for certification and assessment of technical diagnosis and operation. This is why there is different efficiency in the bubble distribution at the same A/S ratio. The velocity and time of floating is changed by the different bubble distributions. The floating time affects the plant volume because the time factor make size dicision. Therefore the charateristics of bubble distribution and floating time at the same A/S ratio is necessary to apply to evaluation standard for certification and assessment of technical diagnosis and operation. For generalization of the method in certification and assessment, the characteristics of bubble distribution was studied. Until recently, using the optical device and shooting live video, there are some analysis technology of the floating factors. But this kind of technology is influenced by the equipment. with this level of confidence about the results, it is difficult to apply to generalize. According this reasons, this study should be applied on experiment generalization of method about measurement of relation between bubble distribution and floating time.

  • Variation of soil properties is studied by permeating injection of chemical grouts, such as cement type, water-glass type and acrylamide type, to the same soil samples with different densities. Moreover, injection tests using specially prepared equipments of 1.0 shot system and 1. 5 shot system are attempted to investigate permeating injection effects in highly compacted soil and in the presence of ground water. The main factor which causes the improvement of cut-off effect and shearing strength is the cohesion of soil. The strength in the loose state is fundamentally governed by the membrane cohesion, meanwhile, in the loose state is governed by the structural cohesion. Injection effects under the ground water flow is considerably decreased, and effective gelling ratio of approximate 45~80% is observed by variation of velocity and gel time, besides grading of injection materials has high relation with permeation and traveling length but has little relation with effective gelling ratio. Permeating injection effects, such as gelling scope, gelling strength in highly compaoted soil conditions can be confirmed by penetration resistance diagram and iso-strength curve.

  • It is to use effectively for stream channel and watershed management as the prediction and the analysis of bed changes characteristics in the Seomjin river downstream. The necessary data (section, bed composition material, pivot point water elevation, coefficient of roughness) with regard to analysis of the bed changes characteristics were based upon the survey data and analysis results in the Seomjin river maintenance basic plan. The prediction of bed changes was also completed with HEC-6 model. The study results were summarized as follows: The main factor of bed changes in the Seomjin river downstream can be decided by extreme extraction of bed aggregate rather than the change of hydrological data. According to the analysis of bed stability based on the relation between friction velocity and representative grain size, and the relation between dimensionless tractive force and representative grain size, the Seomjin river downstream appears to be increased overall. The bed composition material in the stream channel of the Seomjin river of 2003 year shows higher composition rate of gravel and lower composition rate of sand as compared to those of 1989 year. According to result that the prediction of bed changes, it is estimated that the bed will be risen approximately 1.5 m to the place up to 9 km from the estuary, have been repetitively risen and fallen up to 1 m to the place between $9{\sim}21\;km$ section, and fallen about 0.5m to the place between $22{\sim}25\;km$ section. As a result, the bed of the Seomjin river downstream can be decided to be risen gradually. However, since the prediction of this study is based on the assumption that there will be no forced aggregate picking, the bed changes can be much greater than expected when there is a massive aggregate picking as it had happened before.

  • This study estimates the region of freshwater influence (ROFI) by Han River discharge in the Yeomha channel, Gyeonggi Bay. A 3-D numerical model, which is validated for reproducibility of variation in current velocity and salinity, is applied in Gyeonggi Bay. Distance of freshwater influence (DOFI) is defined as the distance from the entrance of Yeomha channel to the point where surface salinity is 28 psu. Model scenarios were constructed by dividing the Han River discharge into 10 categories (200~10,000 m3/s). The relation equation between freshwater discharge and DOFI was calculated based on performing a non-linear regression analysis. ROFI in Yeomha channel expands from the southern sea area of Ganghwa-do to the northern sea area of Yeongheung-do as the intensity of Han River discharge increases. The discharge and DOFI are a proportional relationship, and the increase rate of DOFI gradually decreases as discharge increases. Based on the relation equation calculated in this study, DOFI in the Yeomha channel can be estimated through the monthly mean Han River discharge. Accordingly, it will be possible to respond and predict problems related to damage to water quality and ecology due to rapid freshwater runoff.
