  • This paper presents a multiple target tracking system using target feature information. In the proposed system, the state of target is defined as its kinematic as well as feature : the kinematic includes a location and a velocity; the feature contains the image correlation between a prior target and a current measurement. The feature information is used for generating the validation matrix and association probability of joint probabilistic data association (JPDA) algorithm. Through the Kalman filter, the target kinematic is updated. Then the tracking information is cycled by the track management algorithm. The system has been evaluated using the images obtained from Electro-Optics/ InfraRed (EO/IR) sensor. It is verified that the proposed system can reduce the complexity burden of JPDA process and can enhance the track maintenance rate.

  • Warfare information system is a core factor of future combat operation under NCW(Network centric Warfare) environment. In this paper, we proposed a new MOE(Measure of Effectiveness) that can assess the combat power synergistic effect of warfare information system in the theater-level joint fire operation. This new MOE uses the rule of Newton's second law($F=(m{\Delta}{\upsilon})/{\Delta}t{\Rightarrow}(M{\upsilon}I)/T$). Four factors considered in combat power evaluation are network power(M), movement velocity(v), information superiority(I), command and control time(T). We applied this new MOE to the JFOS-K(Joint Fire Operating System-Korea) to assess its combat power effect and compared with other's effects obtained from different MOE.

  • This paper deals with the tracking problem of a moving target using multiple unmanned aerial vehicles. A decentralized extended information filter is designed to cooperatively estimate the position and the velocity of the moving target. The extended information filter is adopted to consider the range and the line-of-sight angle as measurement data. The decentralized scheme is applied to enhance the estimation performance using the information provided by other vehicles. Numerical simulation is performed to verify the tracking performance of the proposed decentralized filters.

  • Communication infrastructure supports wide variety of mobile services such as photo and file sharing, location tracking, social network services and instant messaging. However, instances like power-loss and natural disasters disrupt these communication infrastructures unable to render support to these mobile services. Delay-tolerant networks (DTNs) offer a solution to these problems at hand. By utilizing mobility and opportunistic contacts among mobile devices, a plausible communication network can be establish and enable support to mobile applications. This paper presents an energy-efficient, reliable message delivery routing scheme with message prioritization rules for DTN. It uses the context information of nodes (mobile devices) such as the contact history (location and time of contact), speed/velocity, moving direction to determine the best forwarders among nodes in the network. The remaining energy of the nodes is also used to determine the message types a node can deliver successfully. The simulation results show that proposed approach outperforms Epidemic and Prophet routing schemes in terms of delivery ratio, overhead ratio, delivered messages per types and remaining energy.

  • Transport properties of 2DEG at AlGaAs/GaAs interface such as average electron energy, flight distance, each valley occupancy ratio, average electron velocity for various fields are investigated by MONTE-CARLO method. As the electric field increases, more electrons transit drastically from (000) valley to (000) upper valley. This phenomenon shows the nonstationary effect such as velocity overshoot. The duration of the transient decreases from about 1.4 psec for electric field E = 7KV/cm to about 0.7 psec for 12KV/cm. The average electron velocity during transient transport in 2DEG is about 8 times the steady-state velocity for E = 12KV/cm at room temperature. In comparison with bulk GaAs the peak velocity in the 2DEG is higher than that in even pure bulk GaAs at electric field E = 7 KV/cm. On the basis of the fact that the electrons in the 2DEG have larger peak velocity and shorter transient time of velocity than those in the bulk GaAs, it is suggested that the device with 2DEG may obtain higher mobility than that with bulk GaAs.

  • S-wave, which provides lithology and pore fluid information, plays a key role in estimating gas-hydrate saturation. In general, P- and S-wave velocities increase in the presence of gas-hydrate and the P-wave velocity decreases in the presence of free gas under the gas-hydrate layer. Whereas there are very small changes, even slightly increases, in the S-wave velocity in the free gas layer because S-wave is not affected by the pore fluid when propagating in the free gas layer. To verify those velocity properties of the BSR (bottom-simulating reflector) depth in the gas-hydrate prospect area in the Ulleung Basin, P- and S-wave velocity profiles were derived from multi-component ocean-bottom seismic data which were acquired by Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) in May 2009. OBS (ocean-bottom seismometer) hydrophone component data were modeled and inverted first through the traveltime inversion method to derive P-wave velocity and depth model of survey area. 2-D multichannel stacked data were incorporated as an initial model. Two horizontal geophone component data, then, were polarization filtered and rotated to make radial component section. Traveltimes of main S-wave events were picked and used for forward modeling incorporating Poisson's ratio. This modeling provides S-wave profiles and Poisson's ratio profiles at every OBS site. The results shows that P-wave velocities in most OBS sites decrease beneath the BSR, whereas S-wave velocities slightly increase. Consequently, Poisson's ratio decreased strongly beneath the BSR indicating the presence of a free gas layer under the BSR.

  • Although ultrasonic CT is one of the useful techniques for tissue characterization, the reconstructed images, such as the velocity distribution and attenuation constant distribution, are degraded by reflection and refraction of ultrasonic beam. This paper studied the degradation effects on attenuation images using agar gel phantoms which were developed to evaluate ultrasonic CT. We found that the reconstructed attenuation constants at the center of the phantoms were less than the actual values by 0.6 dB/cm when phantom velocity differs by 25 m/s from surrounding saline. We also studied a correction method for refraction and phase cancellation effects, where the correction was made using the maximum value in the received subdata, as obtained by sub-arraying microprobes located at each sampling point. Using this method, we could obtain an improvement in the reconstructed image by the correction on the attenuation effect.

  • This paper presents a method for a mobile robot to follow a moving object in real time. The robot follows a target object keeping the facing angle toward the target and the distance to the target to given value. The method consists of two procedures: first, the detection of target position in the robot coordinate system, and the second, the calculation of translational velocity and rotational velocity to follow the object:. To detect the target location, range sensor data is represented in histogram. Based on the real time calculation of the location of the target relative to the robot, translational velocity and rotational velocity to follow the target are calculated. The velocities make the heading angle and the distance to target converge toward the desired ones. The performance of the method is tested through simulation. In the simulation, the target moves with three different trajectories, straight line trajectory, rectangular trajectory, and circular trajectory. As shown in the results, it is inevitable to lose track temporarily of the target when the target suddenly changes its motion direction. Nevertheless, the robot speeds up to catch up and finally succeeds to follow the target as soon as possible even in this case. The proposed method can also be utilized to coordinate the motion of multiple robots to keep their formation as well as to follow a target.

  • Recently, the importance of velocity, one of the characteristics of big data (5V: Volume, Variety, Velocity, Veracity, and Value), has been emphasized in the data processing, which has led to several studies on the real-time stream processing, a technology for quick and accurate processing and analyses of big data. In this paper, we propose a Squall framework using Time-triggered Message-triggered Object (TMO) technology, a model that is widely used for processing real-time big data. Moreover, we provide a description of Squall framework and its operations under a single node. TMO is an object model that supports the non-regular real-time processing method for certain conditions as well as regular periodic processing for certain amount of time. A Squall framework can support the real-time event stream of big data and micro-batch processing with outstanding performances, as compared to Apache storm and Spark Streaming. However, additional development for processing real-time stream under multiple nodes that is common under most frameworks is needed. In conclusion, the advantages of a TMO model can overcome the drawbacks of Apache storm or Spark Streaming in the processing of real-time big data. The TMO model has potential as a useful model in real-time big data processing.
