  • Generally, G.P.S(Global Positioning System) is using for the car navigation system but it has some restrictions such as the discontinuity of earth satellites and SA (Selective Availability). Recently, the hybrid navigation system combining with G.P.S and Dead-reckoning are much attractuve for improving the accuracy of a vehicle positioning. G.P.S called satellite navigation system, can measure its position by using satellites. Dead-Reckoning is the self-contained navigatioin system using a wheel sensor for the vehicle velocity and a gyro sensor for the vehicle angular velocity. Some algorithm could be generated for finding the vehicle position and orientation. In this paper, we developed a hybrid algotithm wiht G.P.S DR and Map-Matching.

  • This paper describes the development of the $H_{\infty}$ lateral control system for an autonomous ground vehicle operating a limited area using the RTK-DGPS(Real Time Kinematic-Differential Global Positioning System). Before engaging in autonomous driving, map data are acquired by the RTK-DGPS and used to construct a reference trajectory. The navigation system contains the map data and computes the reference yaw angle of the vehicle using two consecutive position values. The yaw angle of the vehicle is controlled by the $H_{\infty}$ controller. A prototype of the autonomous vehicle by the navigation method has been developed, and the performance of the vehicle has been evaluated by experiment. The experimental results show that the $H_{\infty}$ controller and the RTK-DGPS based navigation system can sufficiently track the map at low speed. We expect that this navigation system can be made more accurate by incorporating additional sensors.

  • Inertial Navigation System (INS)/Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) integrated navigation system can be used for land vehicle navigation. When the GNSS signal is blocked in a dense urban area or tunnel, however, the problem of increasing the error over time is unavoidable because navigation must be performed only with the INS. In this paper, Non-Holonomic Constraints (NHC) information is utilized to solve this problem. The NHC may correct some of the errors of the INS. However, it should be noted that NHC information is not applicable to all areas within the vehicle. In other words, the lever arm effect occurs according to the distance between the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) mounting position and the NHC effective point, which causes the NHC condition not to be satisfied at the IMU mounting position. In this paper, an INS/GNSS/NHC integrated navigation filter is designed, and this filter has a function to compensate for the lever arm effect. Therefore, NHC information can be safely used regardless of the vehicle's driving environment. The performance of the proposed technology is verified through Monte-Carlo simulation, and the performance is confirmed through experimental test.

  • An autonomous lan vehicle for agriculture(ALVA-II) was developed. A prototype vehicle was made by modifying a commercial tractor. A Navigation sensor system with a geo-magnetic sensor performed the autonomous operations of ALVA-II, such as rotary tilling with headland turnings. A navigation sensor system with a machine vision system was also investigated to control ALVA-II following a work boudnary.

  • In order for a vehicle to follow a predetermined trajectory accurately, its position must be estimated accurately and reliably. In this thesis, we propose trajectory tracking control methods for unmanned vehicle and a positioning system using ultrasonic wave. The positioning problem is an important part of control problem for unmanned navigation of a vehicle. Dead Reckoning is widely used for positioning of vehicle. However this method has problems because it accumulates estimation errors. We propose a new method to increase the accuracy of position estimation using the Ultrasonic Satellite System (USAT). It is shown that we will be able to estimate the position of vehicle precisely, in which errors are not accumulated. And proposed trajectory tracking control methods include both a new path planning method and a lateral control method for vehicle. The experimental results show that the proposed methods enables exact vehicle trajectory tracking even under various environmental factors.

  • This paper proposes a vision/DR integrated navigation system using distance between wheels of the vehicle and a gyroscope. In order to show the validity of the proposed vision/DR integrated navigation system, experiments were performed for a trajectory of a mobile robot. Experimental results show that the proposed vision/DR integrated navigation system gives better navigation performance than a vision/DR integrated navigation system using only distance between wheels of the vehicle.

  • Autonomous unmanned vehicle is able to find the path and the way point by itself. For the more precise navigation performance, Extended kalman filter, which is integrated with inertial navigation system and global positioning system is proposed in this paper. Extended kalman filter's performance is evaluated by the simulation and applied to the unmanned vehicle. The test result shows the effectiveness of extended kalman filter for the navigation.

  • This paper presents a new method of measuring the ground's gradient using LNS(land navigation system) navigation data. When a vehicle equipped with LNS arrives at any place, LNS provides its navigation data which contain the information on vehicle's motion. We developed some formulas which can explain correlation between the vehicle's motion and ground's gradient. The proposed method using those formulas is shown to be accurate and convenient.

  • In order to develop navigation systems, simulators that provide navigation sensors data are required. A trajectory generator that simulates vehicle motion is needed to generate navigation sensors data in the simulator. In this paper, a trajectory generator for evaluating navigation system performance is proposed. The proposed trajectory generator consists of two parts. The first part obtains parameters from the motion scenario file whereas the second part generates position, velocity, and attitude from the parameters. In the proposed trajectory generator six degrees of freedom, halt, climb, turn, accel turn, spiral, combined, and waypoint motions are given as basic motions with parameters. These motions can be combined to generate complex trajectories of the vehicle. Maximum acceleration and jerk for linear motion and maximum angular acceleration and velocity for rotational motion are considered to generate trajectories. In order to show the usefulness of the proposed trajectory generator, trajectories were generated from motion scenario files and the results were observed. The results show that the proposed trajectory generator can accurately simulate complex vehicle motions that can be used to evaluate navigation system performance.

  • This paper presents a method for improving the positioning accuracy of the laser navigation. As a wireless navigation system, the laser navigation which is more flexible than a wired guidance system is used for the localization and control of an AGV(automatic guided vehicle). However, the laser navigation causes the large positioning error while the AGV turns or moves fast. To solve the problem, we propose the method for improving the positioning accuracy of the laser navigation using particle filter which has robust and reliable performance in non-linear/non-gaussian systems. For the experiment, we use the actual fork-type AGV. The AGV has a gyro, two encoders and a laser navigation. To verify the performance, the proposed method is compared with the laser navigation which is a product. In the experimental result, we verified that the proposed method could improve the positioning accuracy by approximately 66.5%.
