We propose an obstacle detection algorithm for unmanned ground vehicle on uneven terrain. The key ideas of the proposed algorithm are the use of two-layer laser range data to calculate the gradient of a target, which is characterized as either ground or obstacles. The proposed obstacle detection algorithm includes 4-steps: 1) Obtain the distance data for each angle from multiple lidars or a multi-layer scan lidar. 2) Calcualate the gradient for each angle of the uneven terrain. 3) Determine ground or obstacle for each angle on the basis of reference gradient. 4) Generate a new distance data for each angle for a virtual laser scanner. The proposed algorithm is verified by various experiments.

This paper proposes a vehicle detection method for parking areas using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and using YOLOv2, which is a recent, known, fast, object-detection real-time algorithm. The YOLOv2 convolutional network algorithm can calculate the probability of each class in an entire image with a one-pass evaluation, and can also predict the location of bounding boxes. It has the advantage of very fast, easy, and optimized-at-detection performance, because the object detection process has a single network. The sliding windows methods and region-based convolutional neural network series detection algorithms use a lot of region proposals and take too much calculation time for each class. So these algorithms have a disadvantage in real-time applications. This research uses the YOLOv2 algorithm to overcome the disadvantage that previous algorithms have in real-time processing problems. Using Darknet, OpenCV, and the Compute Unified Device Architecture as open sources for object detection. a deep learning server is used for the learning and detecting process with each car. In the experiment results, the algorithm could detect cars in a dense area using UAVs, and reduced overhead for object detection. It could be applied in real time.

An Algorithm for Lane Detection and Lane Departure Warning for a Vehicle Driving on Roads is proposed in This Paper. Using Images Obtained from On-board Cameras for Lane Detection has Some Difficulties, e.g. the Increase of Fault Detection Ratio Due to Symbols on Roads, Missing Yellow Lanes in the Tunnel due to a Similar Color Lighting, Missing Some Lanes in Rainy Days Due to Low Intensity of Illumination, and so on. The Proposed Algorithm has been developed Focusing on Solving These Problems. It also has an Additional Function to Determine How much the Vehicle is leaning to any Side between The Lanes and, If Necessary, to Give a Warning to a Driver. Experiments Using an Image Database Built by Collecting with Vehicle On-board Blackbox in Six Different Situations have been conducted for Validation of the Proposed Algorithm. The Experimental Results show a High Performance of the Proposed Algorithm with Overall 97% Detection Success Ratio.

This paper describes the algorithm which can estimate road following direction and deetect obstacle using a monocular vision system. This algorithm can estimate the course of vehicle using the vanishing point properties and detect obstacle by statistical method. The proposed algorithm is composed of four steps, which are lane prediction, lane extraction, road following parameter estimation and obstacle detection. It is designed for high processing speed and high accuracy. The former is achieved by a small area named sub-windown in lane existence area, the later is realized by using connected edge points of lane. We would like to present that the new mehod can detect obstacle using the simple statistical method. The paracticalities of the processing speed, the accuracy of the algorithm and proposing obstacle detection method, have been justified through the experiment applied VTR image of the real road to the algorithm.
Recently, the safety in vehicle also has become a hot topic as self-driving car is developed. In passive safety systems such as airbags and seat belts, the system is being changed into an active system that actively grasps the status and behavior of the passengers including the driver to mitigate the risk. Furthermore, it is expected that it will be possible to provide customized services such as seat deformation, air conditioning operation and D.W.D (Distraction While Driving) warning suitable for the passenger by using occupant information. In this paper, we propose robust vehicle occupant detection algorithm based on RGB-Depth-Thermal camera for obtaining the passengers information. The RGB-Depth-Thermal camera sensor system was configured to be robust against various environment. Also, one of the deep learning algorithms, OpenPose, was used for occupant detection. This algorithm is advantageous not only for RGB image but also for thermal image even using existing learned model. The algorithm will be supplemented to acquire high level information such as passenger attitude detection and face recognition mentioned in the introduction and provide customized active convenience service.

In this paper, a novel vehicle detection algorithm is proposed that utilizes the color histogram of the image. The color histogram is used to search the image for regions with shadow, block symmetry, and block non-homogeneity, thereby detecting the vehicle region. First, an integral histogram of the input image is computed to decrease the amount of required computation time for the block color histograms. Then, shadow detection is performed and the block symmetry and block non-homogeneity are checked in a cascade manner to detect the vehicle in the image. Finally, the proposed scheme is applied to both still images taken in a parking lot and an on-road video sequence to demonstrate its effectiveness.
Video Image Processing (VIP) for traffic surveillance has been used not only to gather traffic information, but also to detect traffic conflicts and incident conditions. This paper presents a system development of gathering traffic information and conflict detection based on automatic calculation of pixel length within the detection zone on a Video Detection System (VDS). This algorithm improves the accuracy of traffic information using the automatic detailed line segmentsin the detection zone. This system also can be applied for all types of intersections. The experiments have been conducted with CCTV images, installed at a Bundang intersection, and verified through comparison with a commercial VDS product.
In this research, we will devise an obstacle avoidance algorithm for a previously unmanned vehicle. Whole systems consist mainly of the vehicle system and the control system. The two systems are separated; this system can communicate with the vehicle system and the control system through wireless RF (Radio Frequency) modules. These modules use wireless communication. And the vehicle system is operated on PIC Micro Controller. Obstacle avoidance method for unmanned vehicle is based on the Virtual Force Field (VFF) method. An obstacle exerts repulsive forces and the lane center point applies an attractive force to the unmanned vehicle. A resultant force vector, comprising of the sum of a target directed attractive force and repulsive forces from an obstacle, is calculated for a given unmanned vehicle position. With resultant force acting on the unmanned vehicle, the vehicle's new driving direction is calculated, the vehicle makes steering adjustments, and this algorithm is repeated.
In this paper, we propose a forward vehicle detection algorithm using column detection and bird's-eye view mapping based on stereo vision. The algorithm can detect forward vehicles robustly in real complex traffic situations. The algorithm consists of the three steps, namely road feature-based column detection, bird's-eye view mapping-based obstacle segmentation, obstacle area remerging and vehicle verification. First, we extract a road feature using maximum frequent values in v-disparity map. And we perform a column detection using the road feature as a new criterion. The road feature is more appropriate criterion than the median value because it is not affected by a road traffic situation, for example the changing of obstacle size or the number of obstacles. But there are still multiple obstacles in the obstacle areas. Thus, we perform a bird's-eye view mapping-based obstacle segmentation to divide obstacle accurately. We can segment obstacle easily because a bird's-eye view mapping can represent the position of obstacle on planar plane using depth map and camera information. Additionally, we perform obstacle area remerging processing because a segmented obstacle area may be same obstacle. Finally, we verify the obstacles whether those are vehicles or not using a depth map and gray image. We conduct experiments to prove the vehicle detection performance by applying our algorithm to real complex traffic situations.
An effective drowsy driver detection system is needed, because the probability of accident is high for drowsy driving and its severity is high at the time of accident. However, the drowsy driver detection system that uses bio-signals or vision is difficult to be utilized due to high cost. Thus, this paper proposes a drowsy driver detection algorithm by using steering angle sensor, which is attached to the most of vehicles at no additional cost, and vehicle information such as brake switch, throttle position signal, and vehicle speed. The proposed algorithm is based on jerk criterion, which is one of drowsy driver's steering patterns. In this paper, threshold value of each variable is presented and the proposed algorithm is evaluated by using acquired vehicle data from hardware in the loop simulation (HILS) through CAN communication and MATLAB program.
