An integrated robust fault diagnosis and fault accommodation strategy for a class of linear stochastic systems subjected to unknown disturbances is presented under the assumption that only a single fault may occur at a given time. The strategy is based on the fault isolation and estimation using a bank of robust two-stage Kalman filters and introduction of the additive compensation input for cancelling out the fault's effect on the system. Each filter is set up such that the residual is decoupled from unknown disturbances and fault with the influence vector designed in the filter. Simulation results for the simplified longitudinal flight control system with parameter uncertainties, process and sensor noises demonstrate the effectiveness of the present approach.
This paper presents a diagnosis method for the detection and location of open-short switch faults in the three-phase power conditioning system. A method for switch fault diagnosis on the power conditioning system is proposed, based on the concordia transform. The switch fault types and locations on power conditioning system are diagnosed by a method in which analyze the d-q current vector locus and current pattern. The Simulation results confirm the proposed diagnostic method.
Parkinson's disease is a growing and chronic movement disorder, and its diagnosis is difficult especially at the initial stages. In this paper, movement characteristics extracted by a computer using multilayer back propagation neural network mapping are converted to the symptoms of this disease. Then, modulation of three classifiers of C4.5, k-nearest neighbors, and support vector machine with majority voting are applied to support experts in diagnosing the disease. The purpose of this study is to choose appropriate characteristics and increase the accuracy of the diagnosis. Experiments were performed to demonstrate the improvement of Parkinson's disease diagnosis using this method.

In this paper, we propose a fault diagnosis scheme tor induction motor by adopting a hierarchical classifier consisting of k-Nearest Neighbors(k-NN) and Support Vector Machine(SVM). First, some motor conditions are classified by a simple k-NN classifier in advance. And then, more complicated classes are distinguished by SVM. To obtain the normal and fault data, we established an experimental unit with induction motor system and data acquisition module. Feature extraction is performed by Principal Component Analysis(PCA). To show its effectiveness, the proposed fault diagnostic system has been intensively tested with various data acquired under the different electrical and mechanical faults with varying load.
1. Objectives: Voice diagnosis has been used to classify individuals into the Sasang constitution in SCM(Sasang Constitution Medicine) and to recognize his/her health condition in TKM(Traditional Korean Medicine). In this paper, we purposed a new speech classification algorithm for Sasang constitution. 2. Methods: This algorithm is based on the SVM(Support Vector Machine) technique, which is a classification method to classify two distinct groups by finding voluntary nonlinear boundary in vector space. It showed high performance in classification with a few numbers of trained data set. We designed for this algorithm using 3 SVM classifiers to classify into 4 groups, which are composed of 3 constitutional groups and additional indecision group. 3. Results: For the optimal performance, we found that 32.2% of the voice data were classified into three constitutional groups and 79.8% out of them were grouped correctly. 4. Conclusions: This new classification method including indecision group appears efficient compared to the standard classification algorithm which classifies only into 3 constitutional groups. We find that more thorough investigation on the voice features is required to improve the classification efficiency into Sasang constitution.

In this paper, a real-time training method to improve the performance of bearing fault diagnosis. The traditional bearing fault diagnosis cannot classify a condition which is not trained by the classifier. The proposed 4-step method trains and recognizes new condition in real-time, thereby it can classify the condition accurately. In the first step, we calculate the maximum distance value for each class by calculating a Euclidean distance between a feature vector of each class and a centroid of the corresponding class in the training information. In the second step, we calculate a Euclidean distance between a feature vector of new acquired data and a centroid of each class, and then compare with the allowed maximum distance of each class. In the third step, if the distance between a feature vector of new acquired data and a centroid of each class is larger than the allowed maximum distance of each class, we define that it is data of new condition and increase count of new condition. In the last step, if the count of new condition is over 10, newly acquired 10 data are assigned as a new class and then conduct re-training the classifier. To verify the performance of the proposed method, bearing fault data from a rotating machine was utilized.

As rotating machines play an important role in industrial applications such as aeronautical, naval and automotive industries, many researchers have developed various condition monitoring system and fault diagnosis system by applying various techniques such as signal processing and pattern recognition. Recently, fault diagnosis systems using artificial neural network have been proposed. For effective fault diagnosis, this paper used MLP(multi-layer perceptron) network which is widely used in pattern classification. Since using obtained signals without preprocessing as inputs of neural network can decrease performance of fault classification, it is very important to extract significant features of captured signals and to apply suitable features into diagnosis system according to the kinds of obtained signals. Therefore, this paper proposes the decision method of the proper feature vectors about each fault signal for neural-network-based fault diagnosis system. We applied LPC coefficients, maximum magnitudes of each spectral section in FFT and RMS(root mean square) and variance of wavelet coefficients as feature vectors and selected appropriate feature vectors as comparing error ratios of fault diagnosis for sound, vibration and current fault signals. From experiment results, LPC coefficients and maximum magnitudes of each spectral section showed 100 % diagnosis ratios for each fault and the method using wavelet coefficients had noise-robust characteristic.

One of the most important problems in bioinformatics is how to extract the useful information from a huge amount of data, and make a decision in diagnosis, prognosis, and medical treatment applications. This paper proposes a weighted kernel function for support vector machine and its learning method with a fast convergence and a good classification performance. We defined the weighted kernel function as the weighted sum of a set of different types of basis kernel functions such as neural, radial, and polynomial kernels, which are trained by a learning method based on genetic algorithm. The weights of basis kernel functions in proposed kernel are determined in learning phase and used as the parameters in the decision model in classification phase. The experiments on several clinical datasets such as colon cancer indicate that our weighted kernel function results in higher and more stable classification performance than other kernel functions.

This paper proposes an algorithm using vibration signals and texture analysis for mechanical fault diagnosis of an induction motor. We analyze characteristics of contrast and pattern of an image converted from vibration signal and extract three texture features using gray-level co-occurrence model(GLCM). Then, the extracted features are used as inputs of a multi-level support vector machine(MLSVM) which utilizes the radial basis function(RBF) kernel function to classify each fault type. In addition, we evaluate the classification performance with varying the parameter from 0.3 to 1.0 for the RBF kernel function of MLSVM, and the proposed algorithm achieved 100% classification accuracy with the parameter of the RBF from 0.3 to 1.0. Moreover, the proposed algorithm achieved about 98% classification accuracy with 15dB and 20dB noise inserted vibration signals.

Timely fault identification is important for safe and reliable operation of the electric valve system. Many research works have utilized different data-driven approach for fault diagnosis in complex systems. However, they do not consider specific characteristics of critical control components such as electric valves. This work presents an integrated shallow-deep fault diagnostic model, developed based on signals extracted from DN50 electric valve. First, the local optimal issue of particle swarm optimization algorithm is solved by optimizing the weight search capability, the particle speed, and position update strategy. Then, to develop a shallow diagnostic model, the modified particle swarm algorithm is combined with support vector machine to form a hybrid improved particle swarm-support vector machine (IPs-SVM). To decouple the influence of the background noise, the wavelet packet transform method is used to reconstruct the vibration signal. Thereafter, the IPs-SVM is used to classify phase imbalance and damaged valve faults, and the performance was evaluated against other models developed using the conventional SVM and particle swarm optimized SVM. Secondly, three different deep belief network (DBN) models are developed, using different acoustic signal structures: raw signal, wavelet transformed signal and time-series (sequential) signal. The models are developed to estimate internal leakage sizes in the electric valve. The predictive performance of the DBN and the evaluation results of the proposed IPs-SVM are also presented in this paper.
