  • Mixed Venous oxygenation saturation[SvO2 is a variable determined in part by the externally controlled factors and in part by the patient during CPB. I monitored the SvO2 and tested it as a parameter for the regulation of pump output and as a criteria for the need of inotropics after CPB. With the help of SvO2, I increased the pump flow especially during rewarming for more optimal oxygenation of cells. After CPB, the calculated cardiac index was used as an indicator for the need of inotropic support with greater accuracy and without any clinical problems. I conclude that the SvO2 is an easily checkable variable and a good indicator for optimal oxygenation at cell level, and can be used as an objective criteria for the need of postoperative inotropic support.

  • Section design of vehicle structure has been developed by two methods. One is the section property method which uses section property as a design variable. This method shows the tendency of an optimum section approximately. The other method is the section shape method which utilizes geometric parameter of section as a design variable. Practical solutions are obtained by this method. However, it is very expensive for large-scale problems due to the large number of geometric parameters. These two methods are compared through several sample problems. The finite element method is used for the structural and sensitivity analyses. The results are analyzed based on the number of function evaluations, the quality of cost function, the complexity of programing, and etc. The applications of both methods are also discussed.

  • The amount of inflowing Air into the boiler has controlled by manipulating the opening of valve, damper and vane, as fan operated by induction motor operats at constant speed, but these control methods are not efficient. Thus VVVf(Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) control of fan has selected to improve efficiency and to acquire power savings. Control system of Air Flow is affected by nonlinearity caused by load variation, vane opening, etc. The analysis of control parameter causing nonlinearity is needed to acquire optimal control and excellent transient response. This paper provides modeling of boiler with various load conditions and vane opening, and analysis of this system.

  • PID controllers with constant gains have been widely used in various control systems due to its powerful performance and easy implementation. But it is difficult to have uniformly good control performance in all operating conditions. In this paper, we propose a nonlinear variable PR controller with immune feedback mechanism. An immune feedback mechanism is based on the functioning of biological T-cells, they include both an active term, which controls response speed. and an inhibitive term, which controls stabilization effect. Therefore, the proposed nonlinear PID controller is based on immune responses of biological. immune feedback mechanism which is the cell mediated immunity and In order to choose the optimal nonlinear PID controller games, we also propose the tuning algorithm of nonlinear function parameter in immune feedback mechanism. To verify performance of the proposed algorithm, the speed control of nonlinear DC motor are performed. Front the simulation results, we have found that the proposed algorithm is more superior to the conventional constant fain PID controller.

  • This paper presents a simple method for evaluating of voltage stability using the line flow equation. Line flow equations ($P_{ij}$, $Q_{ij}$) are comprised of state variable, $V_i$, ${\delta}_i$, $V_j$ and ${\delta}_j$, and line parameter, r and x. Using the feature of polar coordinate, these becomes one equation with two variables, $V_i$ and $V_j$. Moreover, if bus j is slack or generater bus, which is specified voltage magnitude, it becomes one equation with one variable $V_i$, that is, may be formulated with the second-order equation for $V_i^2$. Therefore, multiple load flow solutions may be obtained with simple computation, and the formulated equation used for approximately evaluating of voltage stability limit considering line flow sensitivity. The proposed method was validated to 2-bus and IEEE 6-bus system.

  • Methods for the estimation of the coefficient matrices in the equation of motion for a linear multi-degree-of-freedom structure are studied. For this purpose, the equation of motion is transformed into an auto-regressive and moving average with auxiliary input(ARMAX) model. The ARMAX parameters are evaluated using several methods of parameter estimation : such as the least squares, the instrumental variable, the maximum likelihood and the limited information maximum likelihood methods. Then the parameters of the equation of motion are recovered therefrom. Numerical example is given for a 3-story building model subjected to an earthquake exitation.

  • This study aimed at developing control algorithms for operating a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heating and cooling system with optimal system parameter set-points. Two artificial neural network (ANN) models, which were respectively designed to predict the heating energy cost and cooling energy amount for upcoming next control cycle, was developed and embedded into the control algorithms. Performance of the algorithms were tested using the computer simulation programs - EnergyPlus, BCVTB, MATLAB in an incorporative manner. The results revealed that the proposed control algorithms remarkably saved the heating energy cost by as much as 7.93% and cooling energy consumption by as much as 28.44%, compared to a conventional control strategy. These findings support that the ANN-based predictive control algorithms showed potential for cost- and energy-effectiveness of VRF heating and cooling systems.

  • The method of Variable Structure Control (VSC) design of windmill power systems is proposed. In the design of sliding mode control, we use Riccati equations arising in linear H$\^$$\infty$/ control to decide a stable sliding surface. Then the reachability to the sliding surface is realized by designing a nonlinear controller for the windmill power system. The capability of the proposed controller to damp out the oscillations of power and the robustness with respect to the system parameter variations and model errors are evaluated in the simulation study.

  • A construction method of a switching hyperplane for the Variable Structure Systems, which have robustness for parameter variations and noises in sliding mode is presented. The problem of composing a switching hyperplane is considered as a special case of the pole assignment for a closed-loop system. It is shown that the condition for constructing arbitrarily a switching hyperplane matrix C is equivalent to the controllability of the pair matrix(A, B) for the system, and then an algorithm of obtaining the switching hyperplane is proposed. It is also proved that zeros of the system are invariable in the sliding mode, and the stability for the system dynamic is equivalent to the stability of PA $\textit{ker}$ C. The applicability of the method proposed in the paper is shown by the simulation results for an example system.

  • In this paper, the FLVSC (Fuzzy Logic Variable Structure controller), of which control rules are extracted from the concepts of the VSC(Variable Structure control) is proposed and diesgned for drum motor(BLDC motor) in home VCR. The FLC (Fuzzy Logic Controller) based on linguistic rules has the advantages of not needing of some exact mathermatical model for plant to be controlled. The proposed method has the characteristics which are viewed in conventional VSC, e.g. insensitivity to a class of distrubances, parameter variations and uncertainites in a sliding mode. In addition, the method has the properties of the FLC-noise rejection capability etc. The computer simulation and experiment using DSP(TMS320C30) have been carried out for the servo control of VCR drum motor to show the usefulness of the proposed method.
