The challenging task of classifying the fibro-osseous(FO) lesions has been previously attempted but only in the past 15 years has the entire spectrum of diversity been appreciated. For the clinicians, it is hard to clearly diagnose the lesions before operations. The purpose of this study was to review the literature about fibro-osseous lesions of the jaws and to analyse our clinical cases. As the results of the review of clinical features, radiography and histopathologic findings of sixteen cases of fibro-osseous lesions, we could elucidate diagnostic aids for treatment of benign FO lesion in jaws. Six patients involving fibrous dysplasia complained the facial swelling and facial asymmetry. The radiographic features of the lesions showed ground-glass radiopacity mostly and the histologic findings showed typically Chinese character-shaped trabeculae without osteoblastic rimming in the fibrous stroma. Six patients with ossifying fibroma were notified as swollen buccal cheek state. Their radiographic findings showed cortical expanded radiolucent lesion with sclerotic defined border, which was contrast to the normal adjacent bone. The lesions showed variant radiolucent lesions. Histological findings were revealed as cellular fibrous stroma with woven bones, variable patterns of calcifications. Three patients with cemental dysplasia didn't have specific complaints. Well circumscribed radiopaque lesions on mandibular molar area were observed. Cementum-like ossicles with fibrous stroma were found on microscopic findings. A osteoblastoma case with jaw pain was found. The radiographic feature was a mottled, dense radiopacity with osteolytic border on mandibular molar area. Under microscopy trabecule of osteoid with vascular network were predominantly found. Numerous osteoblast cells with woven bone were found. These clinical, radiographic and microscopic findings of benign fibrous-osseous lesions would suggest diagnostic criteria for each entity of FO lesions.
Several corporations are adopting the 6 Sigma program. Not all corporations are yielding intended results. The inconsistent results may due to the absence of an adequate strategy formulation of 6 Sigma implementation. The 6 Sigma is a qualify control program but its implications are not confined only to qualify improvement. The 6 Sigma program is a change program to bring about changes in organizations. The thesis focuses on developing an installation strategy or model of 6 Sigma program. The utility of the model developed in this research is supported by the empirical evidence. The validity of the model is tested and verified based on the questionnaire survey conducted at 281 business firms. Few research has adopted the empirical survey. The previous researches are mostly centered around identifying success factors. Unlike the present methodology adopted in this research, the past research methodologies are mainly case studies. The distinctive feature of this research does not confine only to the methodology. This research attempted to identify an installation model that would help enterprises get maximum output from the 6 Sigma program. The suggested model is named as Sequential Model(SM). The SM consists of three stages: the preparation stage, the acceptance stage, and the maturity stage. The model is based on the assumption that organizations should follow three stages sequentially to yield the desired output effectively, The preparation stage is further defined including the organizational change factor, the driving system factor, and the promotion factor. The result variable, the organizational performance, is also further defined including the market competitiveness, the employees competitiveness, and the financial performance. The Structural Equation Model was used to test the validity of the Sequential Model(SM). Several alternatives models were developed and compared. The test results consistently show that the suggested model is a valid one and proves its superiority over alternative models. Through this empirical research, we have shown that the strategies of enterprises in line with the proposed model gained better results over others. The research results would be useful information for enterprises that consider formulation of installation strategy of 6 Sigma program.

Objective : Disc herniations at the L1-L2 and L2-L3 levels are different from those at lower levels of the lumbar spine with regard to clinical characteristics and surgical outcome. Spinal canals are narrower than those of lower levels, which may compromise multiple spinal nerve roots or conus medullaris. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical features and surgical outcomes of upper lumbar disc herniations. Methods : We retrospectively reviewed the clinical features of 41 patients who had undergone surgery for single disc herniations at the L1-L2 and L2-3 levels from 1998 to 2007. The affected levels were L1-L2 in 14 patients and L2-L3 in 27 patients. Presenting symptoms and signs, patient characteristics, radiologic findings, operative methods, and surgical outcomes were investigated. Results : The mean age of patients with upper lumbar disc was 55.5 years (ranged 31 to 78). The mean follow-up period was 16.6 months. Most patients complained of back and buttock pain (38 patients, 92%), and radiating pain in areas such as the anterior or anterolateral aspect of the thigh (32 patients, 78%). Weakness of lower extremities was observed in 16 patients (39%) and sensory disturbance was presented in 19 patients (46%). Only 6 patients (14%) had undergone previous lumbar disc surgery. Discectomy was performed using three methods : unilateral laminectomy in 27 cases, bilateral laminectomy in 3 cases, and the transdural approach in 11 cases, which were performed through total laminectomy in 10 cases and unilateral laminectomy in 1 case. With regard to surgical outcomes, preoperative symptoms improved significantly in 33 patients (80.5%), partially in 7 patients (17%), and were aggravated in 1 patient (2.5%). Conclusion : Clinical features of disc herniations at the L1-L2 and L2-L3 levels were variable, and localized sensory change or pain was rarely demonstrated. In most cases, the discectomy was performed successfully by conventional posterior laminectomy. On the other hand, in large central broad based disc herniation, when the neural elements are severely compromised, the posterior transdural approach could be an alternative.
Face recognition is one of the problems to be solved by appearance based matching technique. However, the appearance of face image is very sensitive to variation in illumination. One of the easiest ways for better performance is to collect more training samples acquired under variable lightings but it is not practical in real world. ]:n object recognition, it is desirable to focus on feature extraction or normalization technique rather than focus on classifier. This paper presents a simple approach to normalization of faces subject to directional illumination. This is one of the significant issues that cause error in the face recognition process. The proposed method, ICR(illumination Compensation based on Multiple Linear Regression), is to find the plane that best fits the intensity distribution of the face image using the multiple linear regression, then use this plane to normalize the face image. The advantages of our method are simple and practical. The planar approximation of a face image is mathematically defined by the simple linear model. We provide experimental results to demonstrate the performance of the proposed ICR method on public face databases and our database. The experimental results show a significant improvement of the recognition accuracy.
Excessive zeroes are often observed in ordinal categorical response variables. An ordinary ordered Probit model is not appropriate for zero-inflated data especially when there are many different sources of generating 0 observations. In this paper, we apply a two-stage zero-inflated ordered Probit (ZIOP) model which incorporate the zero-flated nature of data, propose a Bayesian analysis of a ZIOP model, and apply the method to alcohol consumption data collected by the National Bureau of Statistics, Korea. In the first stage of a ZIOP model, a Probit model is introduced to divide the non-drinkers into genuine non-drinkers who do not participate in drinking due to personal beliefs or permanent health problems and potential drinkers who did not drink at the time of the survey but have the potential to become drinkers. In the second stage, an ordered probit model is applied to drinkers that consists of zero-consumption potential drinkers and positive consumption drinkers. The analysis results show that about 30% of non-drinkers are genuine non-drinkers and hence the Korean alcohol consumption data has the feature of zero-inflated data. A study on the marginal effect of each explanatory variable shows that certain explanatory variables have effects on the genuine non-drinkers and potential drinkers in opposite directions, which may not be detected by an ordered Probit model.

Type II membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (Dense deposit disease) is an acquired primary glomerular disease characterized by electron microscopic evidence of a continuous dense membrane deposition replacing the lamina densa. It is a subtype of idiopathic membra- noproliferative glomerulonephritis, and was described as a separate entity by Berger and Galle in 1963. It frequently occurs in older chilren and young adults and the clinical course is variable, but is generally progressive. The presenting feature is nephrotic syndrome in many patients, and proteinuria and hematuria are also seen frequently. The purpose of this paper is to present a case of DDD (Dense deposit disease) from a 10 year old boy who was diagnosed as a acute poststreptococcal glomurulonephritis with protenuria, hematuria, and facial edema by renal biopsy 4 years ago. In the train system, railway vehicles are connected in a line. Therefore, this feature should be considered in composing network topology in a train system. Besides, inter-car communication should be distinguished from in-car communication. As for the inter-car communication, the hybrid topology was proposed to use rather than the conventional ring, star, daisy-chain, and bus topologies. In the hybrid topology, a number of cars are bound to be a group. Then star topology is used for the communication in a group and daisy-chain topology is used for the communication between groups. Hybrid topology takes the virtue of both star and daisy-chain topologies. Hence it maintains communication speed with reducing the number of connecting cables between cars. Therefore, it is important to choose the number of cars in a group to obtain higher performance. In this paper, we focus on the optimization of hybrid topology for railway cars. We first assume that the size of data and the frequency of data production for each car is identical. We also assume that the importance for the maximum number of cables to connect cars is variable as well as the importance of the communication speed. Separated weights are granted to both importance and we derive the optimum number of cars in a group for various number of cars and weights.
An integrated model is presented to describe underground flow and mass transport, using a multicomponent multiphase approach. The comprehensive governing equation is derived considering mass and force balances of chemical species over four phases(water, oil, air, and soil) in a schematic elementary volume. Compact and systemati notations of relevant variables and equations are introduced to facilitate the inclusion of complex migration and transformation processes, and variable spatial dimensions. The resulting nonlinear system is solved by a multidimensional finite element code. The developed code with dynamic array allocation, is sufficiently flexible to work across a wide spectrum of computers, including an IBM ES 9000/900 vector facility, SP2 cluster machine, Unix workstations and PCs, for one-, two and three-dimensional problems. To reduce the computation time and storage requirements, the system equations are decoupled and solved using a banded global matrix solver, with the vector and parallel processing on the IBM 9000. To avoide the numerical oscillations of the nonlinear problems in the case of convective dominant transport, the techniques of upstream weighting, mass lumping, and elementary-wise parameter evaluation are applied. The instability and convergence criteria of the nonlinear problems are studied for the one-dimensional analogue of FEM and FDM. Modeling capacity is presented in the simulation of three dimensional composite multiphase TCE migration. Comprehesive simulation feature of the code is presented in a companion paper of this issue for the specific groundwater or flow and contamination problems.
The performance of waterproofing system (WPS) is known to be a function of many complex interaction of material factors, design details, and the quality of construction, but it is mainly determined by the bond strength, which is measured by tensile adhesive strength (TAS) test. to the concrete bridge deck. In this research, eight waterproofing membranes were selected from commercial market and the tensile adhesive characteristics of the WPS on concrete bridge deck were investigated in view of various factor in asphalt pavement. The factors include type of asphalt mixture, pavement thickness, paving temperature and influence of wheel loading. TAS test of different asphalt pavement types showed that TAS of WPS under SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt) pavement was greater than that under dense asphalt pavement. TAS of sheet membranes was improved as the compaction temperature of asphalt concrete increase, but TAS of liquid membranes were not. The influence of thickness of pavement val minimal with given laboratory test condition. TAS of sheet membranes after wheel tracking test were in the order of the sites under wheel path (UWP), before wheel tracking (BWT) and nearby wheel path (NWP). Since TAS of the same WPS of UWP was higher than TAS of BWT, wheel loading had function of pressing WPS resulting in higher adhesive strength. But liquid membranes were variable on types. The feature of detached interface after TAS test showed that sheet types were all detached in between deck concrete and WPS, and liquid types were detached in between asphalt pavement and WPS.

The aim of this study is which factors affect the commercial land values and how they act upon them through distribution of commercial land values by multiple regression analysis in Gwangju city. The major findings of this study are as follows: (1) The changes of commercial land values distribution in $1989{\sim}1996$, We see that the commercial area of higher land values extends following the main arterial road. This is related to urbanization in urban fringe while the decline of commercial land values occurs in city center with long history of commercial region. This is due to unsuitableness in rapid changes of commercial environment because of fragmented lots, old buildings. traffic congestion etc. (2) The regions where commercial land values greatly rose are the west in constructed the new planning city center of Sangmu-dong. and the south west in which is related to the extension of high density apartment and the location of big discount stores. (3) Through the changes in commercial land values distribution map. and road map, topographical map, we know that commercial land values is related to various factors; namely, distance from CBD, convenient traffic, reputation of commercial district, condition of a road, size of supplementary, a degree of commercial land use etc. (4) From the above related factor, six variables are extracted by operational definition. That is the spatial distance from the city center, the walking distance to a stopping place, the road width, the amount of bus traffic, the amount of pedestrian, the number of the shop. (5) Data of seven variables are collected on the highest values point of each Dong. We applicate multiple regression analysis with commercial land values as a dependent variable, extracted six variables as independent variables. (6) As a result of multiple regression on the determinants of commercial land values, the variables which is greatly related to commercial land values are the amount of pedestrain, the spatial distance from city center. We identify that two variables explain variance of the commercial land values by 65%. (7) In order to make clear about not explained 35%. we carry out analysis of residual. In consequence, we see small estimate in downtown area and large estimate in urban fringe. This feature is due to simple core structure of Gwangju city and limits of this regression model.
