This paper proposes a GAs-applied method for power system planning using series capacitors in order to control the flow of power as desired and utilize the existing transmission facilities to its transfer capacity limits. The control strategy problem is formulated as optimization problem. Also, in employing genetic algorithms to solve the optimization problems, real variable-based genetic algorithm is presented to save the coding processing time and obtain more accurate value of the variable. An application to IEEE 57-bus test system proves that the proposed method is effective for improvement of power system transfer capacity.

This paper investigates a variable geometry (VG) mixed flow turbine with a novel, purposely designed pivoting nozzle vane ring. The nozzle vane ring was matched to the 3-dimensional aspect of the mixed flow rotor leading edge with lean stacking. It was found that for a nozzle vane ring in a volute, the vane surface pressure is highly affected by the flow in the volute rather than the adjacent vane surface interactions, especially at closer nozzle positions. The performance of the VG mixed flow turbine has been evaluated experimentally in steady and unsteady flow conditions. The VG mixed flow turbine shows higher peak efficiency and swallowing capacity at various vane angle settings compared to an equivalent nozzleless turbine. Comparison with an equivalent straight vane arrangement shows a higher swallowing capacity but similar efficiencies. The VG turbine unsteady performance was found to deviate substantially from the quasi-steady assumption compared to a nozzleless turbine. This is more evident in the higher vane angle settings (smaller nozzle passage), where there are high possibility of choking during a pulse cycle. The presented steady and unsteady results are expected to be beneficial in the design of variable geometry turbochargers, especially the ones with a mixed flow turbine.
A variable displacement vane pump is possible to improve the fuel economy by varying the pump capacity with a vane mechanism according to the engine operating speed range and reducing its driving torque. In general the experimental evaluation of the vane pump for the transmission has been performed mainly not with the vehicle or dynamometer test rig but with component test rig due to the implementation and safety problems. In this paper, in order to evaluate the performance of the developed vane pump as well as the compatibility with other rotary and hydraulic components of the target transmission, the transmission dynamometer based test rig is implemented where the developed pump is built into it and then the variable pump capacity and effect of power reduction are investigated experimentally.
Variable displacement swash plate piston pump analysis requires electric, hydraulics and dynamics which are similar to the one's incorporated in the complex fluid power and mechanical systems. The main variable capacity for the swash plate piston pumps, hydraulics or simple kinematic (swash plate degree, piston displacement) models are analyzed using AMESim, a multi-physics analysis program. AMESim is a multi-physics hydraulic analysis program that is considered good for the environment but not appropriate for environmental analysis for multibody dynamics. In this study, the analytical model of the swash plate type hydraulic piston pump variable capacity is modeled by combining the hydraulic part and the dynamic part through co-simulation of multibody dynamics program (Virtual.lab Motion) and multi-physics analysis (AMESim). This paper describes the whole modeling analysis method on the mechanical analysis of the multi-body dynamics program and how the hydraulic analysis in multi-physics analysis program works. This paper also presents a methodology for analyzing complex fluid power systems.
This paper presents a variable rate speech coding method with phonetic segmentation, called for PSVXC. Multiple access techniques that require efficient encoding of speech to achieve capacity improvements are currently emerging in the cellular telephone system. The variable rate speech coder have the reduced average data rate required to transmit conversational speech. Each frame of active speech is classified into one of four phonetic classes. A distinct coding configuration and bit-rate is applied to each category. And also a split vector quantization is used to accurately quantize the LPC information using LSP parameters.
This paper presents the analysis of the load transfer capacity and study of conductor size for variable contingencies in distribution systems. The operation capacity of feeders was changed to improve operation efficiency in KEPCO, considerations for contingencies are still based on the previous capacity. In order to cope with the changes such as operation capacity, it is necessary to study whether the present "contingency support criteria" is reasonable or not, also to confirm the whether the present criteria should be improved or not. We analyze the load transfer capacity and conductor size on a distribution system for contingency levels such as the substation-level, bank-level, feeder-level, and zone-level.one-level.
Within some degree of journal misalignment, maximum pressure, maximum temperature, bearing load, friction and side leakage in high-speed journal bearing operation are examined under the condition of variable density and specific heat. The results are compared with the calculation results under the conditions of constant density and specific heat, and variable density and constant specific heat. It is found that the effects of variable density and specific heat on shaft misalignment are significant in determining the load capacity of a journal bearing operating at high speed.
Purpose - This study has the following objectives. First, it seeks to build an integrated model that can analyze the path through which headquarters, subsidiary competence, and knowledge transfer performance influence subsidiary performance. Second, it analyzes the influence of the specificity of technology as a moderating effect factor on knowledge transfer process. Third, it will conduct an empirical analysis on distributive manufacturing MNEs and suggests an implication for companies that actually need technological localization. The difference of this study are as follows. First, unlike the existing studies, this study can expand a theoretical discussion as it uses subsidiary performance as the dependent variable. Second, it sets the specificity of technology as a moderating effect factor, not an antecedent, and can draw a theoretical implication. Research design, data, and methodology - This study built a path analysis model to identify the influence of the disseminative capacity and absorptive capacity of distributive manufacturing MNEs on subsidiary performance. Based on the previous studies, it set 19 items as 5 latent variables, and established 6 hypotheses by including the moderating effect of the specificity of technology between them. The final 203 companies were selected as analysis samples through a survey questionnaire. For empirical analysis, the study used PLS (Partial Least Square) that is based on structural equation model. Results - The empirical analysis result demonstrated that both headquarters' disseminative capability and subsidiaries absorptive capacity had a positive influence on knowledge transfer performance. Knowledge transfer performance also had a positive influence on subsidiary performance. In the analysis of moderating effect, the specificity of technology acted as a significant moderating variable only between knowledge transfer performance and subsidiary performance; it did not show a statistically significant moderating effect among disseminative capability, absorptive capacity, and knowledge transfer performance. Conclusions - The empirical analysis results of this study demonstrate the importance of disseminative capability and absorptive capacity in knowledge transfer to subsidiaries from the distributive manufacturing MNEs in Korea. The analysis on the moderating effect indicates that the specificity of technology in Korean companies influences on the process of making achievement by using the transferred knowledge.
The present seismic analysis of Road-Bridge Design Standard is on a basis of load-vased analysis which lets structures have the strength over load. In this study, the capacity spectrum method, a kind of displacement based method, which is evaluated by displacement of structure, is presented as an alternative to the analysis method based on load. Seismic capacity is performed about the existing reinforced concrete pier which has already secured seismic design by capacity spectrum method. As a result, capacity spectrum method could realistically evaluate the non-elastic behavior of structures easilly and quickly and the displacement of structures for variable ground motion level. And it could efficiently apply to an evaluation of seismic capacity about the existing structures and a verification of design for capacity target of the structure. We propose the seisemic performance method by using the Finite Element Analysis Program.
