Epoxy/mica composite was synthesized, in order to use it as an impregnation resin in a vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) process, for manufacturing a high voltage rotary machine. The average particle size of the mica was 5~7 ${\mu}m$ and its content was 0, 20, 30 and 40 wt%. A plasticizer or a low molecular aliphatic epoxy was also used, to decrease the viscosity of the composite. The AC electrical breakdown strength was estimated in sphere-to-sphere electrodes, and the electrical breakdown data were estimated by Weibull statistical analysis. The electrical breakdown strength became higher with the addition of mica; and that of the system with 20 wt% mica was highest. The electrical breakdown strength of the system with an aliphatic epoxy was higher than that of the system with a, plasticizer.

Development of recycling method at cemented carbide scraps was researched. Some properties of recycled cemented carbides were investigated. Recycled WC fine powder suffered the surface oxidation. Therefore it was necessary to be done by reduction treatment at 1073K-3.6ks under hydrogen atmosphere. When sintering condition at 1673K-3.6ks was treated under vacuum condition, it gained the deflective strength of about 90%, and gained hardness and sintering density about same value compared with commercial alloys. As a result, it was able to recycle only by 7 processes.

Jabon (Anthocephalus cadamba) is a fast-growing wood species that is widely utilized for light construction and other purposes in Indonesia. The objectives of the current study were to determine the effects of monoethylene glycol (MEG) and SiO2 nanoparticles (nano SiO2) impregnation treatment on the dimensional stability and density of jabon wood and to identify the characteristics of impregnated jabon wood. Wood samples were immersed in water (as untreated), MEG, 0.5% MEGSiO2, then impregnated by applying 0.5 bar of vacuum for 60 min, and then applying 2.5 bar of pressure for 120 min. The results showed that impregnation with MEG and Nano SiO2 had a significant effect on the dimensional stability of jabon wood. Polymers can fill cell walls in wood indicated by increasing weight percentgain, antiswelling efficiency, bulking effect, and density, then decreasing in water uptake value. Jabon wood morphology by using SEM showed that MEGSiO2 polymers can cover part of the pitsin the wood vessel wall of jabon. This finding was reinforced by EDX results showing that the silicon content was increased due to the addition of SiO2 nano. The XRD diffraction pattern indicated that MEGSiO2 treatment increased the degree of crystallinity in wood samples. Overall, treatment with 0.5% MEGSiO2 led to the most improvement in the dimensional stability of 5-year-old jabon wood in this study.
Sengon (Falcataria moluccana Miq.) tree offers a wood of low quality and durability owing to its low density and thin cell walls. This study aimed to improve the properties of sengon wood by making the wood magnetic, producing new functions, and characterizing magnetic sengon wood. Each wood sample was treated using one of the following impregnation solutions: Untreated, 7.5% nano magnetite-furfuryl alcohol (Fe3O4-FA), 10% nano Fe3O4-FA, and 12.5% nano Fe3O4-FA. The impregnation process began with vacuum treatment at 0.5 bar for 2 h, followed by applying a pressure of 1 bar for 2 h. The samples were then tested for dimensional stability and density and characterized using scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) analysis. The results showed that the Fe3O4-FA impregnation treatment considerable affected the dimensional stability, measured in terms of weight percent gain, anti-swelling efficiency, water uptake, and bulking effect, as well as the density of sengon wood. Changes in wood morphology were detected by the presence of Fe deposits in the cell walls and cell cavities of the wood using SEM-EDX analysis. XRD and FTIR analyses showed the appearance of magnetite peaks in the diffractogram and Fe-O functional groups. Based on the VSM analysis, treated sengon wood is classified as a superparamagnetic material with soft magnetic properties. Overall, 10% Fe3O4-FA treatment led to the highest increase in dimensional stability and density of sengon wood.
In this study, we measured that fire characteristics of four wood species using indoor finish materials. Wooden specimens were treated with fire retardant chemicals such as diammonium phosphate and potassium carbonate. The wooden specimens are Larix kaempferi, Pinus koraiensis, Cryptomeria japonica, and Chamaecyparis obtusa, which are used for indoor finish. The heat release rate (HRR) values of fire retardant treated woods were confirmed lower than that of untreated woods. For specific details, the HRR values of vacuum impregnated specimens for Pinus koraiensis and Cryptomeria japonica were measured lower than coatings. However, those of Larix kaempferi and Chamaecyparis obtusa showed the opposite effect to it. Total heat release rate values of all wooden specimens, vacuum impregnated were lower than coated specimens.

Smart catalyst design though novel catalyst preparation methods can improve catalytic activity of transition metals on reducible oxide supports such as titania by enhancement of metal oxide interface effects. In this work, we investigated Pt nanoparticles/titania catalysts under CO oxidation reaction by using novel preparation methods in order to enhance its catalytic activity by optimizing metal oxide interface. Arc plasma deposition (APD) and metal impregnation techniques are employed to achieve Pt metal deposition on titania supports which are prepared by multi-target sputtering and Sol-gel techniques. In order to tailor metal-support interface for catalytic CO oxidation reaction, Pt nanoparticles and thin films are deposited in varying surface coverages on sputtered titania films using APD. To assess the role of oxide support at the interface, APD-Pt is deposited on sputtered and Sol-gel prepared titania films. Lastly, characteristics of APD-Pt process are compared with Pt impregnation technique. Our results show that activity of Pt nanoparticles is improved when supported over Sol-Gel prepared titania than sputtered titania film. It is suggested that this enhanced activity can be partly ascribed to a very rough titania surface with the higher free metal surface area and higher number of sites at the interface between the metal and the support. Also, APD-Pt shows superior catalytic activity under CO oxidation as compared to Pt impregnation on sputtered titania support. XPS results show that bulk oxide is formed on Pt when deposited through impregnation and has higher proportion of oxidized Pt in the form of $Pt^{2+/4+}$ oxidation states than Pt metal. APD-Pt shows, however, mild oxidation with large proportion of active Pt metal. APD-Pt also shows trend of increasing CO oxidation activity with number of shots. The activity continues to increase with surface coverage beyond 100%, thus suggesting a very rough and porous Pt films with higher active surface metal sites due to an increased surface area available for the reactant CO and $O_2$ molecules. The results suggest a novel approach for systematic investigation into metal oxide interface by rational catalysts design which can be extended to other metal-support systems in the future.
This study investigated the effects of osmotic dehydration (OD) and vacuum impregnation (VI) on the quality of dried apple products. Weight reduction and water loss increased during OD, but these decreased in the apples during VI. In particular, VI's effect on increasing solid gain was superb. For apples in 40% sucrose solution, OD and VI were followed by hot-air drying at 50$^{\circ}C$. The experimental data were fitted successfully using the modified Page model. OD and VI increased drying time and decreased the drying rate constant of these apples as compared to the control. Shrinkage and rehydration capacity greatly decreased in the apples dried by OD and increased in the apples dried by VI as compared to the control. OD also decreased titratable acidity and ascorbic acid content considerably. Sensory evaluations of the products indicated that the apples prepared by OD had higher palatability in their rehydrated form in yoghurt, and the apple products prepared by VI had higher palatability in their dried form.

Graphene has attracted an increasing attention due to its extraordinary electronic, mechanical, and thermal properties. Especially, the two dimensional (2D) sheet of graphene with an extremely high surface to volume ratio has a great potential in the preparation of multifunctional nanomaterials, as 2D supports to host metal nanoparticles (NPs). Copper oxide is widely used in various areas as antifouling paint, p-type semiconductor, dry cell batteries, and catalysts. Although the copper oxide(II) has been well known for efficient catalyst in C-N cross-coupling reaction, copper oxide(I) has not been highlighted. In this research, CuO and Cu2O nanoparticles (NPs) dispersed on the surface of grapehene oxide (GO) have been synthesized by impregnation method and their morphological and electronic structures have been systemically investigated using TEM, XRD, and XAFS. We demonstrate that both CuO and Cu2O on graphene presents efficient catalytic performance toward C-N cross coupling reaction. The detailed structural difference between CuO and Cu2O NPs and their effect on catalytic performance are discussed.

The increase of greenhouse gas emission and decrease of fossil fuel are being caused by the indiscreet consumption of energy by people. Recently, green policy has been globally implemented to reduce energy consumption. This paper studied the research to reduce the energy consumption in buildings, by using the heat storage properties of PCM. PCM has to prevent leakage from the liquid state. Therefore, we prepared form stable PCM, by using the vacuum impregnation method. Three kinds of organic PCMs were impregnated into the structure of porous material. The characteristics of the composites were determined by using SEM, DSC, FTIR and TGA. SEM morphology showed the micro structure of silica fume/PCM. Also, thermal properties were examined by DSC and TGA analyses; and the chemical bonding of the composite was determined by FTIR analysis.

A new shape-stable composite phase change material (PCM) have been produced via an easy and simple vacuum impregnation method. The composite PCM have been derived from almond shell biochar (ASB) as supporting material and capric acid (CA) as phase change material. Cost effective waste almond shells (AS) are renewable, eco-friendly, and rich in pores which enhance the possibility of CA impregnation. Therefore, in this study, three different ratios of CA (1:1, 1:2 and 1:3) have been incorporated in ASB to produce shape-stabilized phase change composites (ASCAs). Different techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscope (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) have been applied to evaluate the characteristics of ASCAs. The attained composite PCMs have exhibited shape stability with high latent heat storage, that makes it suitable for thermal energy storage applications.
