  • For sustainable lunar exploration, the most required resources should be procured on site because it takes tremendous cost to transfer the resources from the Earth to the Moon. The technologies required for use of lunar resources refers to In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU). As the ISRU technology cannot be verified in the Earth, a lunar surface environment simulator is necessary to be prepared in advance. The Moon has no atmosphere, and the average temperature of the lunar surface reaches to $107^{\circ}C$ during the daytime and $-153^{\circ}C$ at night. The lunar surface is also covered with very fine soils with sharp particles that are electrostatically charged by solar radiation and solar wind. In this research, generation of vacuum environment with lunar soil mass in a chamber and simulation of electrostatically charged soils are taken into consideration. It was successful to make a vacuum environment of a chamber including lunar soils without soil disturbance by controlling evacuation rate of a vacuum chamber. And an experiment procedure for simulating the charged lunar soil was suggested by theoretical consideration in charging phenomena on lunar dust.

  • Traditional vacuum cleaner adoptsa highly rotating centrifugal impeller for generating suction region at lower pressure. The rotational speed is very high at 35,000 to 40,000 rpm and accessory structure such as a circular brush at the base plate of the cleaning devices is equipped for gathering dusts. Highly rotating impeller is effective for low pressure generation but causes noise problems. Recently, the unwanted noise is removed by installation of air-pump, instead of a centrifugal impeller, and the internal flows of the modified system are estimated in numerical and experimental approach, respectively.

  • Thin film solar cells with chalcopyrite $CuInSe_2/Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$ absorber materials, commonly known as "CIS/CIGS solar cells" have recently attracted significant research interest as a potential alternative energy-harvesting system for the next generation. Among the different deposition techniques available for the CIGS absorber layer, electrodeposition is an effective and low cost alternative to vacuum based deposition methods. This article reviews progress in the area of CIGS solar cells with an emphasis on electrodeposited absorber layer. Existing challenges in fabrication of stoichiometric absorber layer are highlighted.

  • In the cluster tool, it is necessary to precisely control the vacuum pressure for the wafer transportation between transport module and cassette or process with the range of 10 $^{-4}$ to 5*10 $^{-5}$ torr. So we have designed the pressure control system for the transport module of the cluster tool and have evaluated its performance. Digital PID is utilized with the weighted sum of both three previous errors and one current error. The feedback signal is put into the nitrgen mass flow controller using the transport module controller. This pressure control system can prevent the transport module from the particle generation and backstreaming of hazardous process gases of the process chamber.

  • The effects of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) were evaluated on the generation of multiply charged ions of cytochrome c in a 2-nitrophloroglucinol (2-NPG) matrix in high-vacuum, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). The presence of 1% TFA in the 2-NPG matrix solution was more effective in generating multiply charged protein ions than matrix solutions containing 0.1% or 0% TFA. Regarding the matrix itself, with 1% TFA, 2-NPG was significantly more effective in generating multiply charged ions than 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (2,5-DHB). The maximum charge state of cytochrome c was +8 when using a 2-NPG matrix containing 1% TFA.

  • In this study, we investigated variations in undoped ZnO thin film properties with working pressure, $O_2$/Ar ratio, and annealing ambient. Higher vacuum pressure during deposition was observed to bring about slower growth rate resulting in samples with better crystallinity as well as hole generation efficiency through formation of shallower oxygen interstitial. Given that $O_2$/Ar ratio is greater than unity, O provided from the ambient to ZnO during annealing was found to preferably situate at interstitial sites. When He was used for the second annealing, significant changes were not observed. On the other hand, O ambient caused increased density of oxygen interstitial, thereby making the film more intrinsic-like high resistivity ZnO.

  • The objective of the present study is to analyze the transient flow through theejector system with the help of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. An attempt is made to investigate the interesting and conflicting phenomenon of the infinite entrainment into the primary stream without an infinite mass supply from the secondary chamber. The results obtained show that the one and only condition in which an infinite mass entrainment can be possible in such types of ejectors is the generation of a re-circulation zone near the primary nozzle exit. The flow in the secondary chamber attains a state of dynamic equilibrium of pressures at the onset of the recirculation zone. A steady flow in the ejector system is valid only after this point.

  • To shorten the delivery time for new products, a lot of prototype plastic parts manufacturing technologies have been developed including injection molding, vacuum casting, thermal forming and so on. Among them, RIM is becoming one of a important soft tooling methods to produce prototype and mass production parts within short time. Further more, as the rapid prototyping technology based tooling methods are playing an important role in prototype manufacturing industry, the utility of the RIM is increasing. But few analyses and mold design techniques have been developed so far due to its chemical and mechanical complexity during the packing and curing process. This research suggests mold gate design criteria to prevent bobbles from molded parts through simplified mathematical model and change of bubble sizes according to the geometry of the molded parts through experiments. Also this study shows the differences of bobble generation mechanism between RIM and injection molding.

  • The high temperature superconductivity(HTS) cable must be cooled below the nitrogen liquefaction temperature to applicate the cable in power generation and transmi-ssion system under the superconducting state. To obtain superconducting state. a reliable cryocooler system is required. Structural and thermal design have been performed to design cryocooler system operated with reverse Brayton cycle using gas neon as refrigerant. This cryocooler system consists of compressor. recuperator. coldbox. control valves and has 1 kW cooling capacity. Heat loss calculation was conducted for the given cryocooler system by considering the conduction and radiation through the multi-layer insulation(MLI) and high vacuum. The results can be summarized as: conduction heat loss is 7 W in valves and access port and radiation heat loss is 18 W through the surface of cryocooler. The full design specifications were discussed and the results were applied to construct in house HTS cable cooling system.

  • A new method to calculate the aeroacoustic pressure of a centrifugal fan was developed The fan consists of an impeller, diffuser and circular casing. Due to the high rotating velocity and the small gap between the impeller and diffuser, the centrifugal fan makes very high noise level at BPF and its harmonic frequencies. The aeroacoustic pressure is calculated acoustic analogy In this paper, only dipole term is considered in the equation. The acoustics generated by moving impeller and stationary diffuser is calculated separately. The unsteady flow field data is calculated by the vortex method The predicted acoustic pressure agrees very well to the measured data. The difference of the two is smaller than 3dBA.
