  • The massive MIMO system, which is a core technology of 5G communication systems, has a problem that it is difficult to implement in a frequency division duplex system based on limited channel feedback because a large amount of channel information is required at the transmitting end. In order to solve this problem, the Joint Spatial Division and Multiplexing (JSDM) technique that dramatically reduces the channel information requirement by removing interference between the user groups using channel correlation information that does not change for a long time has been proposed. Recently, a regularized JSDM technique has been proposed to further improve performance by allowing residual interference between the user groups. However, such JSDM-related studies were mainly designed to focus on inter-group interference cancellation, and thus performance analysis was not performed in a more realistic environment assuming limited feedback in the intra-group interference cancellation phase. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the JSDM and regularized JSDM techniques according to the number of groups and users in a limited feedback environment, and through the simulation results, demonstrate that the regularized JSDM technique shows a more remarkable advantage compared to the existing JSDM in a limited feedback environments.

  • In this paper, we have introduced a Code Division Multiplexing transmission method which is similar to OFDM and analyze ECCM performances. We have verified CDM transmission method has a good LPI performance and a feasible ECCM performance. This capability could be useful for reduction of RF interference which occurs when many equipments operate densely in small area. The equipment that uses CDM transmission method supports variable transmission rate and order-wire effectively and conveniently to user. This CDM method has similar ECCM performance comparing to serial DS method. CDM method has good multi-path signal processing capability and could be useful for mobile communication environment.

  • In this paper, the new beamforming is proposed for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) system with multi-input multi-output(MIMO). Through the proposed Pre-FFT beamforming technique for MIMO-OFDM, the multibeams are formed toward each multi-transmitter antenna of the desired user. The proposed beamforming for MIMO-OFDM can reduce cochannel interference and get diversity gain in the multi-user environment. Therefore, the performance of MIMO-OFDM system is very improved. BER performance improvement of the proposed approach is investigated through computer simulation by applying it to MIMO-OFDM system in the multi-user environment.

  • Diffuse optical wireless (DOW) systems have the advantage that they do not require point-to-point siting so one transmitter can communicate with several receivers. In this paper, we investigate multiple access scheduling methods for downlink orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in diffuse optical wireless networks. Unlike the radio frequency (RF) channel, the DOW channel has low-pass filter characteristics and so requires different scheduling methods than those developed for the RF channel. Multi-user diversity orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems nominate a cluster of subcarriers with the largest signal-to-noise-ratio for transmission. However, in a DOW channel, most users would choose the lowest frequency clusters of subcarriers. To remedy this problem, we make two proposals. The first is to use a variable cluster size across the subcarriers; the lower frequency clusters will have fewer subcarriers while the higher frequency clusters will have more subcarriers. This will equalize the capacity of the clusters. The second proposal is to randomize a user's cluster selection from a group of clusters satisfying a minimum threshold. Through simulation it is shown that combining these strategies can increase the throughput while ensuring a fair distribution of the available spectrum.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique uses multiple sub-carriers for the data transmission. Therefore, Inter Carrier Interference(ICI) is generated because of nonlinear high power amplifier and carrier frequency offset. Wireless OFDM transmission over Doppler fading channels also causes ICI. In OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access), multiple sub-carriers are allocated to each user. Therefore, inter carrier interference causes interference to other users. I evaluate the BER performance of OFDMA systems in frequency selective fading channel, considering Multi-User Interference (MUI) owing to the carrier frequency offset, the nonlinear high power amplifier, and the Doppler fading. In the uplink OFDMA, multi-user interference introduces larger BER degradation than in the downlink. I explain the reason and obtain the required characteristics of the nonlinear amplifier and the value of frequency offset for good BER performance. And I also analyze the BER degradation upon Doppler fading channel.

  • Cognitive Radio, which is proposed to improve the efficiency of wireless communication systems is the system to share primary user's frequency bands with a secondary user. In this situation, a secondary user uses NC-OFDM (Non-contiguous Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) to transmit data effectively without interfering with the primary user's spectrum. However, NC-OFDM, in common with contiguous OFDM, degrades the performance of the system by generating high PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio). In this paper, firstly, we analyse PAPR corresponding to the distribution of subcarriers in NC-OFDM. Then the PAPR reductions that employ the PTS (Partial Transmit Sequence) and SLM (Selective Mapping) are evaluated. Finally, the computational complexities of the PTS and SLM adopting pruned-FFT are compared with conventional PTS and SLM. Further, it is shown that the NC-OFDM with pruned-FFT is more efficient than the contiguous OFDM in terms of computational complexity and PAPR reduction performance.

  • The Multiuser Eigenmode Transmission (MET) has generated significant interests in literature due to its optimal performance in linear precoding systems. The MET can simultaneously transmit several spatial multiplexing eigenmodes to multiple users which significantly enhance the system performance. The maximum number of users that can be served simultaneously is limited due to the constraints on the number antennas, and thus an appropriate user selection is critical to the MET system. Various algorithms have been developed in previous works such as the enumerative search algorithm. However, the high complexities of these algorithms impede their applications in practice. In this paper, motivated by the necessity of an efficient and effective user selection algorithm, a low complexity recursive user selection algorithm is proposed for the MET system. In addition, the fairness of the MET system is improved by using the combination of the proposed user selection algorithm and the adaptive Proportional Fair Scheduling (PFS) algorithm. Extensive simulations are implemented to verify the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • The study on interference channel is very important information theoretically and many studies have been done on it. However, even in the simplest case, even in the case of two user interfering channels, the channel capacity is not yet known except in special cases. Recently, research on the multiplexing gain that shows the tendency of the transmission rate in the high signal to noise ratio (SNR) band has been actively carried out, instead of accurately grasping the channel capacity. Obtaining optimal multiplexing gain can reveal trends in channel capacity at high signal-to-noise ratio bands. In an interfering channel with two users, the best multiplexing gain can be obtained by eliminating the interference. However, recent research shows that when the number of users is more than three, the optimal multiplexing gain can not be obtained only by zero forcing and a new technique called interference sorting is needed. There are two types of interference sorting techniques. Beamforming A method of effectively separating signals and interference by properly selecting matrices and constructing structured codes using rational numbers and irrational numbers. The interference alignment technique can achieve optimal multiplexing gain in various environments such as interference channel, X channel, compound broadcast channel, and multi hop network for multi source multi destination. In recent years, it has also been applied to distributed storage. • Cognitive radio (CR) has been proposed as an effective technology for flexible use of the radio spectrum. The interference between primary users and CR users, however, becomes a critical problem when they are using adjacent frequency channels with different transmission power levels. In this paper, a robust CR orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) architecture, which can effectively suppress interference to nearby primary users and overcome adjacent channel interference (ACI) to the CR user, is proposed. This new approach is characterized by adaptive data repetition for subcarriers under heavy ACI, and adaptive time spreading for subcarriers near the borders of the CR user's spectrum. The data repetition scheme provides extra power gain against the ACI coming from primary users. Time spreading guarantees an acceptable interference level to nearby primary users. By computer simulation, we demonstrate that, under a CR environment, the proposed CR OFDM architecture outperforms conventional OFDM systems in terms of throughput and BER performance.
