  • Recently, with the digitalization of a broadcasting system and the development of a communication technology, the existing trend of consuming media contents throughout the fixed-displayer and the dedicated channel is being changed. The existing user only could consume media contents under limited time and places because of the fixed-displayer and the dedicated channel. However, with advent of the IP-based terminals and HTTP adaptive streaming which transfer the media sequence according to the user's transmission condition, users become possible to enjoy the media content anytime anywhere. As the result of the alteration of the broadcasting surrounding, users can enjoy the media content while changing his terminals according to their preferences and circumstances. However, in case that users try to consume consecutively the content from last view-point ended in the previous terminal under current HTTP adaptive streaming environment, a user has to remember the last view-point, and then has to apply the view-point to the changed terminal. Thus, for solving this problem, this paper defines "User Profile" for describing the metadata for the chained content consume environment between the terminals. Also, for proving the proposed method, this paper try to demonstrate the proposed method throughout the realization of the system based on Smooth Streaming from Microsoft.

  • In recent years, there have been active researches on the services of the next generation mobile communications. In particular, the services in the next generation mobile communications differ from the services in the conventional mobile communication services that they can provide the services customized at each user. The profile management technology becomes more important for such personalized services since it is closely related with providing services adaptively to user's current situation and preferences. However, the conventional profile management technologies have their limitations on providing personalized services because they put most of emphasis on the customer management. Even, it becomes more difficult with current profile management system to support the personalized services, where the service providers manage the user profiles independently each other. In this paper, we propose a novel profile management system called profile service provider, and describe the requirements to support personalized services in the next generation mobile communications.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a framework based on Web Services for effective management of the profiles that were proposed to provide a user with personalized service. The profiles must be constituted the related information of the user and could be exchanged according to cyclic.acyclic or event among user's device, profile repository and service server for providing the user with personalized service. The profiles also must be supplied the services providers that need to the profiles for the personalized service. The profile framework is necessary to provide the functions like this for managing effectively of the personalized service. The proposed framework used the Web Services for exchanging and providing the profile regardless the various devices and platform. The framework also was applied the metadata constitute method and dynamic constitute method for managing effectively of the profile. The result of experiment using proposed framework was effective process and management of the profile and could exchange the profile with regardless of platform and device. The implemented system using the proposed framework was foundation of providing the personalized services with a user by through a effective management function of the profile.

  • We present the design and implementation of a unique sensing and actuation application -- the Illuminator: a sensor network-based intelligent light control system for entertainment and media production. Unlike most sensor network applications, which focus on sensing alone, a distinctive aspect of the Illuminator is that it closes the loop from light sensing to lighting control. We describe the Illuminator's design requirements, system architecture, algorithms, implementation and experimental results. The system uses the Illumimote, a multi-modal and high fidelity light sensor module well-suited for wireless sensor networks, to satisfy the high-performance light sensing requirements of entertainment and media production applications. The Illuminator system is a toolset to characterize the illumination profile of a deployed set of fixed position lights, generate desired lighting effects for moving targets (actors, scenic elements, etc.) based on user constraints expressed in a formal language, and to assist in the set up of lights to achieve the same illumination profile in multiple venues. After characterizing deployed lights, the Illuminator computes optimal light settings at run-time to achieve a user-specified actuation profile, using an optimization framework based on a genetic algorithm. Uniquely, it can use deployed sensors to incorporate changing ambient lighting conditions and moving targets into actuation. Experimental results demonstrate that the Illuminator handles various high-level user requirements and generates an optimal light actuation profile. These results suggest that the Illuminator system supports entertainment and media production applications.

  • This paper proposes an efficient remote video evaluation system that is matched well with personalized characteristics of students using information filtering based on user profile. For making a question in forms of video, a key frame extraction method based on coordinate, size and color information is proposed. And Question-mating intervals are extracted using gray-level histogram difference and time window. Also, question-making method that combined category-based system with keyword-based system is used for efficient evaluation. Therefore, students can enhance their study achievement through both supplementing their inferior area and preserving their interest area.

  • In this paper, we propose the techniques for effective management of profiles that necessary to provide adaptation content to an user. The profiles must be configured the related information of the user and can be exchanged according to periodic/aperiodic or event among user device, profile repository, contents adaptation server and contents storage server for providing adaptation content to an user. The profiles also must be supplied the contents services providers that need profiles for the adapted contents services. To support those function, we propose the management technologies of profiles and design profile framework supporting those. The proposed management framework of profiles is supported the profiles that are configurated using the various user's information and is used the Web Services for exchanging and providing regardless of the various devices and platform. The dynamic configuration method, metadata configuration method, and profiles providing methods using weight for effective management in the framework also are applied. The result of evaluation the proposed management techniques show effective profiles processing.

  • Recently, cyber evaluation systems on the Web-based remote education do not consider the personalized characteristic and propensity of individual students. Especially, in setting of the questions far examination, the traditional simple and general methods for all students group have been used for evaluation. This paper proposes on efficient cyber evaluation system using user profile. First, questions are filtered by using user profile for the personalized characteristic and propensity of individual students, This personalized characteristic and propensity have been disregarded in traditional evaluation systems. And then, filtered questions are set for examination, Therefore, efficiency of the evaluation system is enhanced and students make good results from their study. When user profile is adapted, the setting method of question for examination have combined category-based method with keyword-based method. This make students get the interest and pleasure for questions.

  • The rapid proliferation of wireless networks and mobile computing applications has changed the landscape of network security. Anomaly detection is a pattern recognition task whose goal is to report the occurrence of abnormal or unknown behavior in a given system being monitored. This paper presents an efficient rough set based anomaly detection method that can effectively identify a group of especially harmful internal attackers - masqueraders in cellular mobile networks. Our scheme uses the trace data of wireless application layer by a user as feature value. Based on this, the used pattern of a mobile's user can be captured by rough sets, and the abnormal behavior of the mobile can be also detected effectively by applying a roughness membership function with the age of the user profile. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by using a simulation. Simulation results demonstrate that the anomalies are well detected by the proposed scheme that considers the age of user profiles.

  • Folksonomy data, which is derived from social tagging systems, is a useful source for understanding a user's intention and interest. Using the folksonomy data, it is possible to create an accurate user profile which can be utilized to build a personalized search system. However there are limitations in some of the traditional methods such as Vector Space Model(VSM) for user profiling and similarity computation. This paper suggests a novel method with graph-based user and document profile which uses the proximity information of query terms to improve personalized search. We demonstrate the performance of the suggested method by comparing its performance with several state-of-the-art VSM based personalization models in two different folksonomy datasets. The results show that the proposed model constantly outperforms the other state-of-the-art personalization models. Furthermore, the parameter sensitivity results show that the proposed model is parameter-free in that it is not affected by the idiosyncratic nature of datasets.
