Implementation of MPEG-4 System for Video on Demand Services (Video on Demand 서비스를 위한 MPEG-4 시스템 구현)

  • We describe the implementation of MPEG-4 Systems for Video on Demand services. We discuss the issues in implementint MPEG-4 Systems, specially Object Description and Elementary stream management(Buffer control, Synchronization). The file-server pump the multiplexed streams to the client through the DMIF. Interaction between server and client is done with User Command(play, pause, stop, fast foward, ...). Stream data are multiplexed off-line. In advance, the file-server read multiplexed streams and pumps it to MPEG-4 terminal(client). Our system can be used in various application not only Video on Demand services, but also Internet broadcasting, remote surveillance, mobile communication, remote education, etc.

Robot Control Interface Using Gaze Recognition (시선 인식을 이용한 로봇 인터페이스 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose robot control interface using gaze recognition which is not limited by head motion. Most of the existing gaze recognition methods are working well only if the head is fixed. Furthermore the methods require a correction process per each person. The interface in this paper uses a camera with built-in infrared filter and 2 LED light sources to see what direction the pupils turn to and can send command codes to control the system, thus it doesn't need any correction process per each person. The experimental results showed that the proposed interface can control the system exactly by recognizing user's gaze direction.

  • This paper presents a switching system of speed controller between PI (Proportional_Integrator) and P_LPF (Proportional_Low pass filter) to improve overshoot and slow settling time in DC motor. When the integrator is saturated in the PI controller, the error signal is integrated continuously. For preventing the state, the Anti-windup scheme is proposed. But the Anti-windup scheme dose not show stable characteristics in the whole speed command section after tuned a gain. By using P_LPF switching system these problems are improved and there is no need to tune of user hereafter, when the integrator is saturated. The proposed method is verified by the simulation results using MATLAB SIMULINK.

  • Recently, user motion estimation methods using various wearable devices have been actively studied. In this paper, we propose a motion estimation system using Myo, which is one of the wearable devices, using two Myo and their dependency relations. The estimated motion is used as a command for remotely controlling the robot. Myo's Orientation and EMG signals are used for motion estimation. These two type data sets are used complementarily to increase the accuracy of motion estimation. We design and implement the system according to the proposed method and analyze the results through experiments. As a result of comparison with previous studies, the accuracy of motion estimation can be improved by about 12.3%.

  • The spacecraft simulator is used for command validation, operational check of the Satellite Operation Subsystem (SOS), spacecraft anomaly analysis support, satellite operator training etc. In this paper, S/W design features and modeling characteristics of the KOMPSAT Spacecraft Simulator Subsystem (SIM) are described. Validation procedures and simulation results are also provided. The SIM provides extensive simulation capabilities by including models for most of the spacecraft subsystems. The software structure of the SIM was designed and implemented so as to support operations not only in real-time but also in non real-time by utilizing the Hewlett Packard (HP) UNIX functions. The SIM incorporates as many user-friendly Man Machine Interface (MMI) windows as possible so that all the SIM normal operations can be executed through the MMI windows.

  • In this paper, presents the design of mobile field robot controlled by microcomputer. The computer works as the supervisory system for decision making and sending command to control the field robot. An information from encoder, infrared sensors using for control task of the robot that can be interconnected with the computer through the serial communication RS422 standard. In this case, the user can design the program algorithm base on microcomputer in order to control and define the routing of the mobile robot. Moreover, the robot can be installed other equipment fer collect data such as picture, sound, temperature etc., in order to working in the dangerous area.

  • This paper presents an implementation of speech recognition system for teaching an autonomous mobile robot. The use of human speech as the teaching method provides more convenient user-interface for the mobile robot. In this study, for easily teaching the mobile robot, a study on the autonomous mobile robot with the function of speech recognition is tried. In speech recognition system, a speech recognition algorithm using HMM(Hidden Markov Model) is presented to recognize Korean word. Filter-bank analysis model is used to extract of features as the spectral analysis method. A recognized word is converted to command for the control of robot navigation.

An Interactive Robotic Cane

  • A human-friendly interactive system that is based on the harmonious symbiotic coexistence of human and robots is explored. Based on this interactive technology paradigm, a robotic cane is proposed for blind or visually impaired travelers to navigate safely and quickly through obstacles and other hazards faced by blind pedestrians. The proposed robotic cane, "RoJi,” consists of a long handle with a button-operated interface and a sensor head unit that is attached at the distal end of the handle. A series of sensors, mounted on the sensor head unit, detect obstacles and steer the device around them. The user feels the steering command as a very noticeable physical force through the handle and is able to follow the path of the robotic cane easily and without any conscious effort. The issues discussed include methodologies for human-robot interactions, design issues of an interactive robotic cane, and hardware requirements for efficient human-robot interactions.ions.

  • As computer systems get complex more and more, the powerful but easy-to-use man machine interfaces are required. This paper describes the man machine interface in the TDX-10 switching system currently being developed at ETRI. The man machine interface in TDX-10 provides a reliable and user-friendly system interface through which system operators can manage the system in a convenient way. It incorporates the window, menu, form, on-line help, history recording, command file batching and color graphics capabilities.

  • This paper describes a development of remote measurement robot with vision system. The developed robot consists of robot controller and host PC program. The robot and camera can move with 2 degree of freedom by independent remote controlling a user friendly designe joystick. A visual image and command data translated through 900MHz and 447MHz RF controller, respectively. To show the validity of the developed system, operations of the robot in the field area were illustrated.
