  • In this study, as examples of domestic libraries currently using the cloud-based library system, the main characteristics and issues that appeared in the experience of use divided into the processes of introduction, conversion, and operation of each system were investigated, and the results are as follows. First, it is said that new systems were introduced as alternatives to problems caused by the operation of the existing system, and the current products were selected because they were cost-effective. Second, the main issues in the conversion process were data migration work, implementation of existing service functions, and linking problems of internal and external systems in the library. Third, the main advantages identified in the operation process were cost reduction, simple installation and automatic management and maintenance, and convenient use in mobile devices. The main drawbacks were the difficulty of customizing that reflects the characteristics of the library, and the need for stability of the network. The disappeared role of the information technology librarian is the regular system inspection and maintenance support, and various new roles have been suggested. The responses of librarians and users to the new system were generally satisfied rather than dissatisfied.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the reason and value system of the elderly people on the public library use in Korea. For the purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted for elderly aged over 60, from 15 public libraries in Seoul from October 29 to October 10, 2018, and 306 valid responses collected were analyzed. The value system is based on the Means-end Chain (MEC) Theory, and the linkage between the attributes, consequences, and values of public library use is figured out as a value hierarchy. As a result, the most frequently revealed value system was 'reads or borrows books (attribute) ${\rightarrow}$ gets new knowledge (consequence) ${\rightarrow}$ satisfies oneself (value).' For the value reached by using the public library, both groups answered that their satisfaction, achievement, fun, pleasure, and vitality. However, the elderly aged 65 and over additionally felt that public libraries are good for their mental / physical health. The results showed that the elderly people using the public library feels the traditional functions of the public library as the main attribute, and the public library could provide the elderly people with contribution to the lively old age.

  • The purpose of this study is to check the educational influence and accountability of school library and to derive implications for the improvement of public education, using raw data of OECD PISA 2009. To do this, the reading achievement as well as questionnaire of 4,989 Korean students' data in OECD PISA 2009 were used. It analyzed how the visit of library can affect reading achievement, reading attitude and behavioral through structural equation modeling method. The results were as follows. The library use factor is a cause-effect relationship among reading achievement, reading attitude and behavioral factors. In addition, the reading attitude is a cause-effect relationship between reading behavior factor and reading achievement. In the part of reading behavior is a cause-effect relationship reading achievement. In the results of applying this causal relationship of whole population, in some individual cases, they are activated as moderating variable.

  • This study reports on the motivational use of special libraries from a user's perspective that investigated four motivational components: attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction (ARCS) of the library users. Even though special libraries received relatively little attention compared to public libraries, special libraries could fill the niche of public libraries for the special and specific needs of the community in the current library environments in South Korea. Qualitative data were collected through individual interviews and forty people participated in the project. The findings of this study show the four themes (ARCS) that users need motivation as a way to start using a special library, thereby staying focused and revisiting the library. It is possible that the ARCS model will contribute to the implementation, application, and practice of both special libraries and their services in the library environment. The results are expected to expand our knowledge on the motivational ARCS use of special libraries and to serve as basic data when designing motivational strategies and plans of the systems for special libraries.

  • Recently, the expansion of smart phones, wi-fi. and unlimited service changed our life style from personal computer based to mobile device based. With this trend, a lot of companies and government facilities use QR code as an advertising material, and now the QR code is very popular service in our ordinary life. In the meantime, libraries in abroad and university libraries started using QR code in library service about 2 or 3 years ago, and domestic libraries started using it in service due to the increase of establishment of mobile Library websites. In this research, starting with looking into the literature, I analyzed the examples of the use of QR code in libraries. On the base of it, I drew a QR code library service model, and what needs to be considered for the use of it.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of cognitive developmental stages on library behaviors, reading tendency and perception on the library of the elementary students. For this study, a cognitive development tests and a questionnaire survey was conducted with students in their fourth and sixth grades in three elementary schools in Seoul and statistical analysis was carried out with the survey data. As a result, sixth grade students with the higher cognitive development had more requests for library information services than fourth grade students did. However, sixth grade students use library less and preferred to focus on the books for fun and personal interests, comparing with the fourth grade students. Their high level of cognitive development did not always have a positive effect on library behaviors and reading tendency. In addition, perception on the library of sixth grade students was lower than that of fourth grade students and it was influenced by library behaviors and reading tendency. It was also influenced positively by frequent use of library, active support by librarians and reading curriculum-related books. Based on the analysis, it is suggested that school library service should be provided based on the development stage of the upper grades of elementary students.

  • This study aims to explore the utilization of kiosks, a case of self-service technology in library services, by applying task-technology fit theory to reveal the factors that affect the satisfaction and continued use of library kiosk services and to conduct a review of library non-face-to-face services. We organized the kiosk characteristic factors through a literature review and established a research model mediated by related theories. We collected 229 valid questionnaire data from users with experience using library kiosks and analyzed them using SPSS 26.0 and SmartPLS 4.0 programs. The analysis results confirmed that the fit of library services and self-service technology was significantly influenced by the usefulness and enjoyment of kiosk technology characteristics and the kiosk-friendly environment of the usage environment attributes. In addition, we found the fit between library services and self-service technology to significantly affect library kiosk usage satisfaction and intention to continue using the kiosk, so this study proposed a plan for library kiosk services utilizing the significant factors. In addition, to effectively use the kiosks as a non-face-to-face library service, we suggest operating them in line to provide library information materials, install them in various locations within the library to increase accessibility, and provide education on how to use them for learning and to raise positive awareness of the kiosks for the digitally disadvantaged.

  • The purpose of this study is to re-approach the concept of data literacy, to describe the differences with other literacies along with the redefined concept of data literacy. Also, it is tried to find out why and how to use data literacy for library and information services. Research has shown that data literacy plays a central role in interacting with other literacy concepts, and should be understood as a data-driven problem-solving ability that is essential for the future human society. Based on these concept definitions, we propose the application of data literacy to library information service in terms of education service and research support service. In this study, data literacy is defined as the ability to utilize data needed by users in a data - based society, is to explain why data literacy is the ability to utilize data for users in modern society by distinguishing differences from other literacy. This concludes with a discussion and proposal on what library information services can be implemented.

  • The purpose of this paper is to overview a recent dispute of the library of the 21st century in Korea and to suggest a desirable model of the future library. There are two visions of the future of library. The first is an access based library model(digital library) emphasizing the digital resources that are networked and browsable electronically. The second is an ownership-based library model(paper library) which emphasize the use of traditional print collections stored locally and physically browsable. A points of dispute between the paper library as storehouse and the digital library as gateway are an electronic informations versus printed materials, access versus ownership, information professional versus librarians. The idea that library as physical place and as cyberspace are diametrically o n.0, pposed is a fallacy and surrealistic opinion. Future library has to acquire, organize, preserve, and make accessible the collections that users want and need. In other words, future libraries need both ownership and access. Access to remote electronic resources must serve as a reasonable substitute for holdings of older material. Therefore, it is a balanced solution that the more heavily used or important materials be considered for ownership and selective information resources for access. No doubt, the traditional library and the digital library will be coexist in the 21 century.
