  • As social media penetrates more deeply into people's everyday lives, social commerce (a type of commerce that combines SNS features and possibility for commercial transactions) has enjoyed unprecedented growth. Shopping on Facebook is a representative example of social commerce platform that allows consumers to interact with other users, exchange information and purchase products without leaving a Facebook page. Social commerce presents great opportunities for marketers in terms of leveraging social aspects of shopping experience. It also offers a large potential for Korean companies to reach various target markets, as well as establish their presence abroad. Yet, acceptance of social commerce as a legitimate shopping channel has been slow, and consumers are still hesitant to shop via Facebook. This study draws on uses and gratification theory and the concept of perceived risk to examine how different motives for SNS use and the associated types of perceived risks can affect the purchase intention on the platform. Empirical data from 288 young users of Facebook were analyzed. Findings identified two main motives for SNS use: information-related motive and communication-related motive. Information-related motive significantly affected the intention to shop on Facebook, whereas communication-related motive did not have any significant influence. Risks associated with shopping via Facebook included delivery risk, security risk, social risk and economic risk. Overall, consumers perceived a higher level of security and social risk associated with shopping on Facebook. However, only social risk had a significant negative influence on the purchase intention. Awareness and previous experience of buying via social commerce platform positively affected consumers' purchase intention.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between communication motive, fatigue and loneliness in mobile environment. According to previous research, the most important communication motive in mobile environment is pleasure. Therefore, pleasure was selected as a representative communication motive. To do this, we collected data for empirical analysis from mobile messenger users using questionnaire. We found that pleasure has a negative effect on loneliness. Second, pleasure has a negative effect on connection, function, and focus. On the other hand, pleasure has no effect on delivery and relationship fatigue. Finally, function and focus have a positive effect on loneliness. On the other hand, connection, delivery, and relationship fatigue have no effect on loneliness. As a result of the research, it is possible to reduce the function and focus fatigue due to the use of the mobile messenger by adding the functions that cause the enjoyment of using the messenger. In addition, the addition of fun-inducing features can also reduce loneliness caused by the use of mobile messenger. Future research will also need to identify factors that may reduce connection and relationship fatigue.

Subjects were 202 females in Seoul who had experiences of cosmetic shopping at internet. Five dimensions of cosmetic purchase motives at internet shopping malls were derived by factor analysis: 'information provision', 'service/quality', 'time saver', 'use convenience', and 'economical efficiency'. Consumers showed relatively high cosmetic purchase motives at internet shopping malls because the prices of on-line shopping mall products were cheaper than those of off-line, and because it was easy to compare various products at internet shopping malls. The motive of 'information provision' had significant positive relationships with the satisfaction of price, quality, color, volume, and skin suitability of cosmetics. The motive of 'time saver' and 'use convenience' had positive relationships with the satisfaction of price and quality. The motives of 'service/quality' and 'use convenience' were higher in career women than in college women. The middle class consumers and the consumers who use internet more had a high 'information provision' motive in shopping cosmetics at internet. The post-purchase satisfaction of cosmetics was influenced most by the experience postscripts and next by economical efficiency, frequency of access to the internet cosmetic malls, and social class(-) in order.

  • A separate and distinct interaction with both the actual e-vendor and with its IT web site interface is at the heart of online shopping. Previous research has established, accordingly, that online purchase intention is the product of customer assessments of IT itself, specifically its perceived usefulness and ease-of-use(TAM). Since perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are such a fundamental driver of usage intentions, it is important to understand the determinants of this construct and how their influence changes over the voluntariness towards the usage intention. The reason for voluntariness as a moderating variable is that it had the serious effect to the motivating in the making willingness of the internet shopping-mall usage. A better understanding of the determinants of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use to the usage intention would enable us to design web site interventions that would increase user acceptance and usage of internet shopping-mall. Therefore, the goal of the present research is to extend TAM to include additional key determinants of TAM and to understand how the effects of these determinants change with the voluntariness of the usage intention of the internet shopping-mall.

  • Purpose - Sharing economy is a promising research topic as a complementary approach for solving difficult issues resulting from market economy. Motive factors for consumer participation in sharing economy are necessary to facilitate the growth of sharing economy. This study analyzes motives for participating in sharing economy using samples from a car sharing service in South Korea. Research design, data, and methodology - Four hypotheses drawn from a new research model integrating the relationships between economic and social value, social value, and the intention to use sharing economy services were proposed. 292 valid samples were collected from Socar users in South Korea. Multiple regression analysis was employed to test the hypotheses. Results - An empirical study identified the importance of convenience and time savings as determinants of intention to use continuously a car sharing service. Cost savings and social value did not significantly influence the intention to use car sharing service. Conclusions - The present study implies that managers working in sharing economy don't have to miss a role of convenience. Although a new finding implies that convenience is an important factor influencing car sharing service, the present study has a limitation of generality that samples are mostly collected from the age range of 20 to 30 years.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among narcissism, usage motives, usage behaviors, satisfaction with and continuance intention to use fashion social media. Research design, data, methodology - A questionnaire survey was used to collect data after conducting a pilot test. Based on the reliability test of the preliminary questionnaire used for the pilot test, the questionnaire was revised. The final questionnaires were administered to 238 fashion social media users and 216 were used for the data analysis. To assess the validity of these measures, exploratory factor analysis and the confirmatory factor analysis were performed. Structural equation modeling analysis were employed for data analysis. Results - Five factors of the usage motivation of fashion social media were extracted: information-seeking, relationship-seeking, practicality-seeking, enjoyment-seeking and self-expression motives. The statistical analysis confirmed the influence of the narcissism tendency on all of the usage motives of fashion social media, three of the fashion social media usage motives influencing information diffusion behavior, and the influence of the information diffusion behavior on users' satisfaction and continuance intention to use fashion social media. Narcissism exerted the highest influences on self-expression motive followed by information-seeking, enjoyment-seeking, relationship-seeking and practicality-seeking motives in order. Factors affecting fashion information diffusion behaviors are practicality-seeking motive, self-expression motive, and relationship-seeking motive. The greater the diffusion of information, the higher the satisfaction with using fashion social media. The consumers with higher satisfaction intended to use fashion social media and share information more frequently. Conclusions - The results indicate that narcissism is an important factor in fashion social media usage motivation. The main motives for narcissistic people to spread information is for the practical purpose at the most, and then to express their personality and style, and to build relationship with others. The satisfaction through active information sharing behaviors seems to play a key role to lead high continuance intention of fashion social media. These implies that marketing strategies to satisfy consumers' narcissism and motives to use social media, and to stimulate the information diffusion behaviors can be used to meet their needs for higher satisfaction with fashion social media.
