  • We consider the question of warranties for repairable items. During the warranty period, each time an item fails the manufacturer has the obligation to restore the item to operational condition either by repairing the item or by replacing it by a new item. In this paper, we consider a warranty policy for making this decision based on the condition of the failed item. For products with phase-type lifetime distributions where the phases represent the condition of the item, we develop algorithms to determine the expected cost of servicing a warranty and use it in making the repair/replacement decision. illustrative numerical examples are presented.

  • The purpose of this paper is to find a more accurate method to evaluate pedestrian wind by computational fluid dynamics approach. Previous computational fluid dynamics studies of wind environmental problems were mostly performed by simplified models, which only use simple geometric shapes, such as cubes and cylinders, to represent buildings and structures. However, to have more accurate and complete evaluation results, various shapes of blocking objects, such as trees, should also be taken into consideration. The aerodynamic effects of these various shapes of objects can decrease wind velocity and increase turbulence intensity. Previous studies simply omitted the errors generated from these various shapes of blocking objects. Adding real geometrical trees to the numerical models makes the calculating domain of CFD very complicated due to geometry generation and grid meshing problems. In this case the function of Porous Media Condition can solve the problem by adding trees into numerical models without increasing the mesh grids. The comparison results between numerical and wind tunnel model are close if the parameters of porous media condition are well adjusted.

  • In this paper, we investigate the topology of complex Finsler manifolds. For a complex Finsler manifold (M, F), we introduce a certain condition on the Finsler metric F on M. This is a generalization of Kahler condition for the Hermitian metric. Under this condition, we can produce a Kahler metric on M. This enables us to use the usual techniques in the Kahler and Riemannian geometry. We show that if the holomorphic sectional curvature of $ M is\geqC^2>0\; for\; some\; c>o,\; then\; diam(M)\leq\frac{\pi}{c}$ and hence M is compact. This is a generalization of the Bonnet\`s theorem in the Riemannian geometry.

  • The use of daylighting has been increased recently due to energy and visual comfort. The aims of interior daylighting are to adequately illuminate visual tasks, to create an attractive visual environment, and to save electrical energy. Lightpipe can improve the distribution of light to interior spaces. This study aims to evaluate the comparative daylighting performance of lightpipe under different sky conditions with mock-up model, sized $6m{\times}6m{\times}4m$ ($w{\times}d{\times}h$). For the purpose, perpendicular lightpipe system was designed as 650 diameter, with an aspect ratio of 2. Totally 49 measuring points of and two of outdoor illuminance on the horizontal plane were monitored from 09:00 to 18:30 on April 29 and May 15 2008. Agilent data logger and photometric sensor were used. Light factor were used to analyse daylight performance under different sky condition. Under overcast sky condition and clear sky condition, the lightpipe system is suitable for KS recommendation level of illuminance.

  • This paper proposes rheological creep and shrinkage model of FCM bridges made for HPC about 40Mpa. The proposed model separates time dependent part with characteristic material part and regards main variable as elastic modulus, which represents material characteristic and history. To find parameters of the model, we had creep, shrinkage and basic material tests about four FCM bridges. All specimens were tested with same condition, after 3days, 28days and 90days of curing. Also, exposed condition and closed condition were separately given to compare the data of each bridge. Finally, all creep data of four FCM bridges were compared to proposed rheological model and other proposed world code models, AASHTO, ACI, CEB-FIP, JSCE and etc.

  • This paper reports a thermal environmental analysis of a room in accommodated with multi-heat sources according to ventilation condition. Two case modification have been investigated to obtain the lower temperature distribution in the room. The temperature distribution of the original room were found about $25{\sim}35^{\circ}C$. As a result, the use of, three ventilating fans and two electric fans are useful for room ventilation respectively, and using two electric fan is more recommendable in side of economical efficiency.

  • Machining tool conditions directly affect to quality of product and productivity of manufacturing. Many researches performed for tool condition monitoring in machining process to improve quality and productivity. Conventional methods use characteristics of signal for cutting force, motor current consumption, vibration of machine tools and machining sound. Recently, diameter of machining tool is become smaller for minimizing of mechanical parts. Tool condition monitoring using conventional methods are relatively difficult because micro machining using small diameter tool has low machining load and high cutting speed. These days, the direct monitoring for tool conditions using vision system is performed actively. But, vision system is affected by external conditions such as back ground of image and illumination. In this study, minimizing technology of external conditions using distribution analysis of image data are developed in micro machining using small diameter drill and tap. The image data is gathered from vision system. Several sets of experiment results are performed to verify the characteristics of the proposed machining technology.

  • In [8] they introduced a new finite element method for accurate numerical solutions of Poisson equations with corner singularities, which is useful for the problem with known stress intensity factor. They consider the Poisson equations with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, compute the finite element solution using standard FEM and use the extraction formula to compute the stress intensity factor, then they pose a PDE with a regular solution by imposing the nonhomogeneous boundary condition using the computed stress intensity factor, which converges with optimal speed. From the solution they could get accurate solution just by adding the singular part. This approach works for the case when we have the reasonably accurate stress intensity factor. In this paper we consider Poisson equations defined on a domain with a concave corner with Neumann boundary conditions. First we compute the stress intensity factor using the extraction formular, then find the regular part of the solution and the solution.

  • In the manufacture process of refrigerator cabinet, polyurethane(PU) liquid firstly is injected between outer plate and inner case in high temperature about $40^{\circ}C$, and PU foam is generated and solidified to the room temperature. There will be great residual stress in the PU foam, especially at the corners after the whole refrigerator is completely assembled. The stress condition will become more complicated under operating condition because of the large temperature difference between the freezing room and outer plate. And also, there are great differences of properties for plastic and steel which would cause different deformation under temperature gradient. The steel outer plate would expand compared to the PU foam or ABS material under operation condition, which induces a thermally bowing deformation in the refrigerator cabinet. The objective of this paper is to design an optimum bead structure or to use reinforcement in the refrigerator except for improving material properties in order to decrease the deformation.
