To examine the geochemical behavior and pollution of soils in Gwangju City, an analysis was carried out for pH, on the contents of metals, and organic carbon. Soil samples were taken from environs areas, industrial areas and downtown areas. The major factor controlling the behavior of metallic elements in the soil was chemical weathering of clay mineral in the environs areas, industrialization, and urbanization. Heavy metals including Cu, Pb and Zn were highly enriched for the samples from central part of downtown area. This indicated that the urbanization and the industrialization affected soil pollution. The results show that soil pollution in a metropolitan city which is caused by harmful heavy metals is severest in the center of the city. In consequence, it is inevitable that practical measures should be taken to prevent soil pollution expansion.
This study is about the wedding culture of Seoul and Kyungsangdo. This paper is a qualitative study that is based on interviews. As a result of this study, it became clear that before the industrialization of South Korea, there were different characteristics of wedding culture in each region. However, the unique characteristics of wedding customs in each region have been degenerated or exterminated, in tandem with the influx of customs from other regions, due to the dramatic urbanization of South Korea, and the development of transport and communication that appeared in the process of modernization. Furthermore, wedding customs were transformed from ceremonies based on a regional and kin-based community into those that were no more than mere events, which was derived from the industrialization and urbanization of Korea.
This study describes the effects of demographic transition on the environmental changes in Korea. The basic framework of this study is a path model. This study analyzes the effects of population growth, urbanization and industrialization on the environmental deterioration. In doing this, this study illustrates the changing patterns of population growth, urbanization and industrialization. This study also shows the changing patterns of environmental conditions, focusing on air pollution, water pollution and wastes. Finally, this study deals with the consequences of the environmental deterioration, especially focusing on the changing quality of life in Korea.

The "Rurban" Design is a design concept that can actively preserve and embrace natural terrain and rural resources in an effort to continuously enhance a city, and restore the community that collapsed due to industrialization and unplanned urbanization. The concentration of Seoul Metropolitan area in Korea and the destruction of rural areas and localities caused by the urban sprawl have become a difficult problem for urban development after industrialization. The development of unbalanced growth and the environmental damage remain as issues as well. The tradition and diversity restoration of the New Urbanism paradigm, which was presented in the latter half of the twentieth century, has been an alternative plan for a big city that had experienced industrialization and urbanization at an early phase. However, there is a limit of application to European and North American cities. The philosophical concept of "Rurban Design" is to apply the use of rural elements more directly, and to outline resource conservation, proper consumption, and suitable scale. In all considerations, this will be a practical strategy to complement the limitations of New Urbanism with its design capacity that maximizes the characteristics of the region.
Korea Furniture design development process is repeated a number of changes by the change of residence and type of market demand derived from the process of industrialization. The modernization process of industrialization advances by large-scale population moves to the city to urbanization proceeds rapidly. Housing problems are concentrated in cities and sparked the furniture industry, furniture design by changes in marketing concepts that appear in the industrialization phase, growth must necessarily accommodate the needs of consumers. Including kitchen furniture, living room furniture and master bedroom furniture has been sensitively adapted changes in the structure of these houses, particularly structural changes Apartments. Starting in the 1990s, jumping over furniture industry has adapted quickly to the market demand, changes in marketing concepts. Furniture industry is growing market share in most of the country, but the entire industry had to undergo a competitive marketing overheating due to excessive supply in excess of market demand since the mid-1990s. Changes in furniture design in this process was the change in furniture design more than the change of the residential structure. The study industrial development and marketing concepts are changing to construct a model to track the changes varied styles and time changes affect whether the main furniture design.
The purpose of the study is to examine how the apartment housing became common and how it became the main structure type of housing in Korea, as well as the social backgrounds. The study also focuses on how such phenomenon caused the housing problems which become social problems, and how new trials in terms of housing supply were performed to provide solutions to meet various housing needs of households. The purpose was accomplished by the examination of related literature since the liberation from Japan in 1945 to the early 1990s. In fact, it was uncommon to have apartment housing as the main figure of housing style. However, it became the major housing culture in Korea. Even if there have been lots of blames for apartment housing for last forty years, they were able to settle in Korea. Major reasons for such phenomenon include desperate needs for a larger quantity of housing due to industrialization, urbanization, etc.
The purpose of the study is to review the real situations of the income-gap between urban and rural areas which is focused on as one of the biggest issues revealed in the process of Chinese economic development and to find out which factors will alleviate or deteriorate such income-gap, also to find out such factors will effect differently on the regional characteristics. To analyze it, six factors such as industrialization-ratio, urbanization-ratio, tertiary industry-ratio, the level of both governmental educational support and agricultural support, and Chinese dual-economic structure are considered as explanatory variables, and OLS regression analysis was implemented to the factor data for the period of 1986-2007 about Chinese 31 districts(castles and cities). The results of the analysis show that both industrialization factors and urbanization factors affect significantly to alleviate income-gap between urban and rural areas, and as predicted, they also shows that dual-economic structure between urban and rural areas is the most biggest factors to enlarge the above mentioned income-gap. However, in accordance to the different level of economic development in eastern, central, and western districts the study shows that such factors will affect them differently respectively. The contents are as follows; In eastern district governmental educational support factor will affect the most great influence to alleviate the income-gap, in central district industrialization factor will affect the most great influence to alleviate the gap, and western district governmental agricultural support factor will affect the most great influence to alleviate the gap. Therefore, in solving the issue of income-gap between urban and rural areas in China we recommend that it is necessary for more differential policy in considering regional characteristics than unilateral policy to Chinese whole areas.
This study investigates the spatial policy of small towns in China. Small towns in China are important in terms of settlement system, rural urbanization and new adaptation to changing situation. It was necessary that they shoud take charge of the tool for solving the problem in rural reform periods. Rural urbanization, which had aimed at transferring the surplus labor smoothlv, was connected with the growth of rural industrialization (a township enterprise). However, the location of township enterprises was so dispersed that the transfer of surplus labors was not satisfactory. Hence, the concentration of the rural industry in small towns has been taken up as an inevitable alternative. Namely, it can be said that changes and adaptation of reform process, such as industrial restructuring and migration, should be integrated and concentrated in small towns.
Since the 1970s, rapid Industrialization has brought urbanization nationwide. In this paper, thirty one years data(1973-2003) ate used to evaluate variability of major cities. Before assessing the context between urbanization and variability of rainfall, the rural areas are selected to compare with urban ones. Thus, average, trends, variations, and nonparametric frequency analysis methods were employed for evaluating variation of annual precipitation, seasonal precipitation, 1 hour annual maximum design rainfall and 24 hour annual maximum design rainfall for both urban and rural areas. The result have shown that summer precipitation relatively increased In urban areas compared to that in rural areas.
