Tunnel provide faster, safer and convenient way of transportation for different objects. The region where it is construction and surrounding medium has significant influence on the overall stability and performance of tunnel. The present simulation has been carried out in order to understand the behaviour of rock tunnel under static loading condition. The present numerical model has been validated with the laboratory scaled model and field data of underground tunnels. Both lined and unlined tunnels have been considered in this paper. Finite element technique has been considered for the simulation of static loading effect on tunnel through Abaqus/Standard. The Mohr-Coulomb material model has been considered to simulate elastoplastic nonlinear behaviour of different rock types, i.e., Basalt, Granite and Quartzite. The four different stages of rock weathering are classified as fresh, slightly, moderately, and highly weathered in case of each rock type. Moreover, extremely weathered stage has been considered in case of Quartzite rock. It has been concluded that weathering of rock and overburden depth has great influence on the tunnel stability. However, by considering a particular weathering stage of rock for each rock type shows varying patterns of deformations in tunnel.

In No. 1 tunnel for Kwnagju urban subway construction, net penetration rate of the shield TBM was analyzed. This tunnel of 540 m length is located in soil layers at starting and in hard rocks such as amphibolite and granitic gneiss at ending with 84 m length. The net penetration rate was dropped down to 2∼11 cm/hr in rock while 50∼80 cm/hr in soil. Theoretical penetration rate is analyzed in conditions of machine and rock in order to compare the actual net penetration rate. The relationships between net penetration rate and thrust force is also investigated in this report.
Deformation of rock masses is not only related to rock itself, but also related to discontinuities, the latter maybe greater. Study on crack propagation at discontinuities is important to reveal the damage law of rock masses. DDARF is a discontinuous deformation analysis method for rock failure and some modified algorithms are proposed in this study. Firstly, coupled modeling methods of AutoCAD-DDARF and ANSYS-DDARF are introduced, which could improve the modeling efficiency of DDARF compared to its original program. Secondly, a convergence criterion for automatically judging the computation equilibrium is established, it could overcome subjective drawbacks of ending one calculation by time steps. Lastly but not the least, relationship between the super relaxation factor and the calculation convergence is analyzed, and reasonable value range of the super relaxation factor is obtained. Based on these above modified programs, influences on crack propagation of joint angle, joint parameters and geo-stresses' side pressure are studied.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception on sedimentary rock in elementary science 'Earth and Space' domain for elementary school students. For this purpose, questionnaires on the sedimentary rock perception were developed. And the sedimentary rock perception was examined for random sampling of 5th and 6th grade 656 students. As a result, students chosen incorrect answers of the average 53.8% for questions of sedimentary rock perception. Over the average rate of incorrect answers in 18 questions were 10 questions (3 in the creation of sedimentary rock, 5 in the classification of sedimentary rock, 2 in the sedimentary layer). When the results were stratified by residence, grade and gender, there were significant differences in 8 questions between students in urban and rural areas, in 6 questions between 5th and 6th grade students, and in 3 questions between male and female students. The study that understanding of elementary students for sedimentary rock can be provided for form the master planning the teaching strategy to student's scientific concepts in elementary school. The results are also contributed to find an effective ways for modify misconceptions of sedimentary rock to the scientific concepts.

There are many restrictions with a rock breaking method by using explosives in the urban area due to such safety problems as vibration, noise, and flying rock. Therefore, the use of FINECKER Plus which is mainly used as a rock breaking method (Ministry of Construction and Transportation, 2003) is gradually increasing. Accordingly, construction cases applying FINECKER Plus to the construction sites in the urban area was introduced in case studies. In addition, a comparative test on the same volume of charge applied to 360g of 1 new product 1 set and 180g of the existing FlNECKER Plus 2 sets was conducted. As a result of the test, the two cases were equivalent in breaking efficiency and the level of noise and vibration, and as for the method, the working time decreased by 32%, thus, it was proven to be excellent in terms of construction.
As the use of drilled shafts for foundation of a large size structure increases, the evaluation of the reliable bearing capacity of the pile has become important. The purpose of this study is to verify the reliability of bearing capacity equations for drilled shafts socketed in weathered rock by comparing the bearing capacity values from static load tests with values from bearing capacity equations. In this study, twelve data from static load test were selected from four field sites, and the data of load test and the properties of weathered rock were analyzed. Three methods widely used in practice were selected for analysis, namely the AASHTO method (1996), Carter & Kulhawy method (1988), and FHWA method (1999). The comparison of the bearing capacity values from the bearing capacity equations to those obtained from load tests showed that the Carter & Kulhawy method (1988) was the most reliable in giving conservative design values and smaller COV (Coefficient Of Variation).
Laboratory and field tests were performed to find out the effectiveness of ground improvement by grouting for an urban subway tunnel that was excavated in weak rock by the NATM. Field measurements were carried out to monitor the behavior of rock mass around the tunnel and to ensure the validity of the current design of the distance form the measuring points to the tunnel face. The final converged displacement and the peroid were predicted using the gamma function. It was found that the ground improvement in terms of reduced permeability and increased stength in the self-supportability of the excavation face enabled the NATM applied in poor gorund. As the result of applying the gamma function to the predicting of displacement, the final displacement including the preceding one and the converged period could be approximately predicted at the early excavation stage.

In this research, the effect of rock mass weathering on the side shear resistance of drilled shaft socketed into weathered rock was investigated. For that, a database of 23 cast-in-place concrete piles with diameters varying from 400mm to 1,500mm were socketed into weathered igneous/meta-igneous rock at four different sites. The static axial load tests were performed to examine the resistant behavior of the piles, and a comprehensive field/laboratory testing program at the field test site was also performed to describe the in situ rock mass conditions quantitatively. No correlation was found between the compressive strengths of intact rock and the side shear resistance of weathered/soft rock. The ground investigation data regarding the rock mass conditions (e.g. $E_m,\;E_{ur},\;_{plm}$, RMR, RQD, j) was found to be highly correlated with the side shear resistance, showing the coefficients of correlation greater than 0.7 in most cases. Additionally, the applicability of existing methods for the side shear resistance of piles in rock was verified by comparison with the field test data. The existing empirical relations between the compressive strength of intact rock and the side shear resistance(Horvath (1982), Rowe & Armitage(1987) etc.) appeared to overestimated the side shear resistance of all piles tested in this research unless additional consideration on the effect of rock mass weathering or fracturing was applied. The existing methods which consider the effect of rock mass condition were modified and/or extended for weathered rock mass where mass factor j is lower than 0.1, and RQD is below 50%.
Since the allowable bearing capacities of piles in weathered/fractured rock are mainly governed by settlement, the load-displacement behavior of pile should be known accurately. To predict pile head settlement at the design stage, the exact understanding of the load-transfer mechanisms is essential. Therefore, in this research, the load-transfer mechanism of drilled shaft socketed into weathered rock was investigated. For the investigation, five cast-in-place concrete piles with diameters of 1,000 mm were socketed into weathered gneiss. The static axial load tests and the load-transfer measurements were performed to examine the axial resistant behavior of the piles. A comprehensive field/laboratory testing program on weathered rock at the Held test sites was also performed to describe the in situ rock mass conditions quantitatively. And then, the effect of rock mass condition on the load transfer mechanism was investigated. The f-w (side shear resistance-displacement) curve of the pile in moderately weathered rock reached to yielding point at a for millimeter displacements, and after yielding point, the rate of resistance increment dramatically decreased. However, the f-w curve in the highly/completely weathered rock did not show the obvious yielding point, and the resistance gradually increased showing the hyperbolic pattern until relatively high displacement (>15 mm). The q-w (end bearing resistance-displacement) curves showed linear response at least until the base displacement of approximately 10 mm, regardless of rock mass conditions.
Den have been many construction projects in urban n We have a lot of problems which have to be solved especially against residence complaints existing building damage due to construction worts. We sometimes have to pay a certain amount of cost to solve the above problem, not in planning. In addition to, we have to suffer from work delay due to confronting problem. Almost all of these are due to blasting work to break solid rock to be excavated. Therefore, this study is focused on finding out how to reduce noise more cheaply. Four cases(4) as cheaper but more effective way have been tested to find out which way of local fence will have better moise reduce function in a field site. Where five(5) large breakers are being operated. It is concluded that more form and shape of local movable panel than the site of panel can be influenced on noise reduce.
