The maintenance of an urban transit vehicle accounts for 60-70% of total costs over its entire life cycle, so it is critical to reduce maintenance costs and extend the life times of urban transit EMUs (electric multiple units) through research. For these researches, the reliability and availability data management system was constructed through the case study of several industries in the domestic and international in the field of reliability centered maintenance system. And we created a system to manage reliability and availability data for use in urban-EMU maintenance. In this work, we identified the major functions needed to successfully develop the system. Here we report the successful development of a reliability and availability data management system for maintenance of urban transit vehicles.
The overpopulation phenomenon and complicated various daily life in the city can't presuppose a loss of lives and properties by fire as in today. Especially, mutual relation of buildings and road of the urban preventive dimenson share with important roles and function. This thesis analyses next two articles. First, this study examines improvement counterplan by urban preventive demention centering around theory. Second: as a case study through statistics of fire is Seoul Namdaemun market propose improvement plan in urban preventive dimension.

A handful of previous studies have attempted to integrate socioeconomic data and remotely sensed data for urban quality of life assessment with their spatial dimension in a zonal unit. However, such a zone-based approach not only has the unrealistic assumption that all attributes of a zone are uniformly spatially distributed throughout the zone, but also has resulted in serious methodological difficulties such as the modifiable areal unit problem and the incompatibility problem with environmental data. An alternative to the zone-based approach can be a pixel-based approach which gets its spatial dimension through a pixel. This paper proposes a pixel-based approach to linking remotely sensed data with socioeconomic data in GIS for urban quality of life assessment. The pixel-based approach uses dasymetric mapping and spatial interpolation to spatially disaggregate socioeconomic data and integrates remotely sensed data with spatially disaggregated socioeconomic data for the quality of life assessment. This approach was implemented and compared with a zone-based approach using a case study of Fulton County, Georgia. Results indicate that the pixel-based approach allows for the calculation of a microscale indicator in the urban quality of life assessment and facilitates efficient data integration and visualization in the assessment although it costs an intermediate step with more processing time such as the disaggregation of zonal data. The results also demonstrate that the pixel-based approach opens up the potential for the development of new database and increased analytical capabilities in urban analysis.

This study aims to propose improvement plans and directions of existing policies to build a Barrier-Free city for the socially underprivileged. We conducted correlation analysis and T-test based on the results of a survey of the general public including the socially underprivileged to understand how their satisfaction with the use of facilities close to their daily lives, such as housing, sales·business facilities, affects their happiness. The results are as follows: First of all, the socially underprivileged experienced discomfort and barriers in urban life more than the privileged, and there was a negative(-) correlation between the degree of discomfort and barrier that the socially underprivileged experienced and happiness in urban life. Second, as a result of analyzing the difference in satisfaction with the life·welfare·leisure environment indicators, the satisfaction with the life environment showed a significant difference between the socially underprivileged and the privileged, and it was found that satisfaction in the life environment had the greatest effect on happiness to the socially underprivileged. We examined the current status and the spatial distribution of BF-certified facilities, one of the representative policies for the socially underprivileged to support their urban life without any obstacles, based on the above outcome, and most certified facilities were concentrated in welfare environment. In addition, we used ArcGIS to analyze that BF-certified facilities have been being supplied to people who really need them and saw that the spatial distribution of the socially underprivileged (elderly, children, and infant) and the distribution of BF certification facilities were somewhat consistent, but were intensively supplied to urban areas.

At the point of growth management, weighted values for the each index have been calculated by applying AHP method based on the interview. With calculated weighted values, an example assessment had been performed on Gyunggi area, a typical place where urban growth management is needed urgently, and intended to provide applicable implications by analyzing them when establishing the means of the urban growth management plans. The result of this research is presented in order of the weight values highest to lowest as below: 'preventing disordered urban sprawl', 'protecting taxpayers', 'promoting efficient urban development' and 'improving the quality of life'. When applied to Gyunggi area, the results are in similar patterns: 'preventing disordered urban sprawl (11 cities)', 'protecting taxpayers (11 cities)', 'improving the quality of life (5 cities)' and 'promoting efficient urban development (4 cities)'. To build the well-balanced urban growth management plans, two factors must be in consideration as well as with others, 'Improving quality of the life' and 'promoting efficient urban development'. Furthermore, the result of the index in this research can provide a guidance to local governments of provinces and cities to build their urban growth management plans in the future.

Resident's attitude and evaluation about local or urban development policies is a major factor in the process of the regional and urban 1)tanning and its practices. Therefore there are numerous studies pointing to analysis about the evaluation of the urban development policies. The purpose of this paper is concerned on the residents'cognitions, attitudes and evaluation about of urban development policy of Sunchon City in South Korea. Research area, Suncgon city, has been served as a central place of eastern Chollanamdo since 1920 and now functions as economic and commercial leading city of Kwangyang-bay area. In addition, Sunchon city is fastly growned with the influence of national development policy including the establishment of major industrial estates and the construction of container port in Kwangyang-bay area. In the overall cognition and evaluation about the quality of life of Sunchon city, most people are satisfied with the quality of life of urban living comparing with near cities such as Kwangyang and Yosu city. In particular, the level of satisfaction about education, transportation, natural environment are relatively higher than economic condition and living facilities. Most of residents have positive attitude and evaluation about the image of future urban development, and prefer to culture and education city in urban function of Sunchon city. Therefore, in order to function as a central city of Kwangyang-bay area. Sunchon city have to adopt new urban development policy including such as reconstruction of urban spatial structure, strengthening of culture and education functions, and the related facilities, restructuring of regional industrial structure. and expansion of commercial and shopping facilities.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare healthy life style and chronic disease management between urban and rural older adults. Methods: The study employed a comparative and descriptive survey design. Data were collected from 154 older adults living independently in communities (79 from urban and 75 from rural areas) using structured questionaries from 24 July, 2010 to 14 August, 2011. Results: Perceived health status was significantly lower in urban older adults than those in rural areas ($x^2$=13.27, p = .001). Frequency of regular health examination was better in the urban group than the rural group ($x^2$=4.71, p = .030). Among older adults with hypertension, medication noncompliance was higher, and participation rate in disease management education was lower in the rural group than the urban group ($x^2$=6.43, p = .040; $x^2$=23.51, p<.001, respectively) and the same as arthritis. Conclusion: Rural older adults had more problems with health and disease management in this study, might be, due to difficulties in access to health care services than urban residents. More tailored programs of disease management as well as health service programs and staffing should be developed in rural areas. For urban older adults, meal preparation program and more opportunities producing income may be needed.
This research was designed to examine the dietary habits and unbalanced diet of middle school students by gender and region. The survey was conducted using questionnaires on dietary habits and unbalanced diet administered to 726 students (urban: 367, rural: 359). The obesity index using BMI showed that the largest proportion of girls was 'underweight' in both regions, which showed a significant difference by region (p<0.001). Male students in urban areas prefer salty taste more than rural students (p<0.05). In urban areas, problems relating to dietary habits were 'unbalanced diet' and 'overeating' in male students and 'frequent snacks' and 'irregular mealtime' for female students (p<0.01). The frequencies of skipping breakfast (p<0.01), snack intake (p<0.001), eating out (p<0.001) and fast food consumption (p<0.001) were significantly higher in urban students than in rural students, and the reason for eating snacks was 'hungry' in urban students and 'habitually' and 'delicious' in rural students (p<0.01). Unbalanced diet was significantly higher in rural students compared with urban students (p<0.001) and male students compared with female students in urban (p<0.05), and the factors affecting dietary habits were mostly related to family. Male students in urban areas showed a significantly lower intake frequency of 'fish, tofu and beans' (p<0.05) and 'milk and yogurt' (p<0.05), but higher intake frequency of 'vegetables' (p<0.001) compared with female students. Male students in rural areas showed a significantly lower intake frequency of 'meat' (p<0.05) but higher intake frequency of 'milk and yogurt' (p<0.05) compared with female students. Urban students showed a significantly higher intake frequency of food groups compared with rural students. To conclude, desirable nutrition education on meal regularity, snack choice, and problems relating to unbalanced diet should be conducted in schools.

"Urban traditional housing" means a type of urban housing which retains characteristics of traditional Korean houses for ordinary people. It is a form of housing created in the process in which traditional Korean ways of life are applied to swift modernization. In Korea's traditional housing, the "court" functioned as a living space that promoted family bonding. The space of the court still remains in the urban traditional housing. However, rapid popularization of the westernized housing form, i.e., apartments, resulted in standardization and westernization of our housing and living patterns, and as a result, the court in urban traditional housing came to lose its original meaning. The objects of this study are residents of urban traditional housing. By studying them, this research aims, firstly, to understand the meaning of the inner court, secondly to analyze correlation between the residents' consciousness of the inner court and their use of the space, and ultimately to find various possible forms of our future housing. For this research, twenty six houses in the Gahoe-dong area in which urban traditional houses are densely built up were investigated. According to the result of this research, the inner court in current urban traditional housing is a space existing inside a house but directly exposed to outer air at the same time. It is a private but shared space. It contributes to forming a pleasant atmosphere by facilitating ventilation and providing sunlight. In addition, it is a living space that actively reflects the Korean living style that values family life.
Urban planning and engineering undergraduate students need to understand the earth physical systems and that how human beings interact with the earth systems to planning and engineering urban area. The eco-friendly or geo-friendly design and planning of an urban area is a critical issue not only for economic benefits but more importantly for the sustainable future of urban life. However, little study has been done dealing with the urban engineering students' understanding of the earth as a system and what pedagogical approach is appropriate to improve their understanding of the earth as a system. This study is to investigate the impact of a purposely designed ESS course on urban engineering students' understanding of the earth as a system and their perceptions about the instructional approaches of the course on their learning competency. This study utilized a mixed-methodology with three main data sources: concept maps, student's perception survey about their learning competency, and course contents. Both the survey and concept maps were analyzed quantitatively as well as qualitatively. The result of this study showed that the urban engineering students' experience of team-based research about the topic they chose based on their own interest had a positive impact on their understanding of the earth as a system and their learning competency. The results of this study suggest that structuring and presenting the earth system contents in the context of engineering students' understanding and their future career be effective not only for the improvement of students' content knowledge but also for the enhancement of their learning competency such as creativity and problem-solving skills in everyday life situation.
