The conventional Boolean retrieval systems based on vector spae model can provide the results of retrieval fast, they can't reflect exactly user's retrieval purpose including semantic information. Consequently, the results of retrieval process are very different from those users expected. This fact forces users to waste much time for finding expected documents among retrieved documents. In his paper, we designed a bayesian SOM(Self-Organizing feature Maps) in combination with bayesian statistical method and Kohonen network as a kind of unsupervised learning, then perform classifying documents depending on the semantic similarity to user query in real time. If it is difficult to observe statistical characteristics as there are less than 30 documents for clustering, the number of documents must be increased to at least 50. Also, to give high rank to the documents which is most similar to user query semantically among generalized classifications for generalized clusters, we find the similarity by means of Kohonen centroid of each document classification and adjust the secondary rank depending on the similarity.
While the current consensus view holds that galaxy mergers are commonplace, it is sometimes speculated that Globular Clusters (GCs) may also have undergone merging events, possibly resulting in massive objects with a strong metallicity spread such as Omega Centauri. Galaxies are mostly far, unresolved systems whose mergers are most likely wet, resulting in observational as well as modeling difficulties, but GCs are resolved into stars that can be used as discrete dynamical tracers, and their mergers might have been dry, therefore easily simulated with an N-body code. It is however difficult to determine the observational parameters best suited to reveal a history of merging based on the positions and kinematics of GC stars, if evidence of merging is at all observable. To overcome this difficulty, we investigate the applicability of supervised and unsupervised machine learning to the automatic reconstruction of the dynamical history of a stellar system. In particular we test whether statistical clustering methods can classify simulated systems into monolithic versus merger products. We run direct N-body simulations of two identical King-model clusters undergoing a head-on collision resulting in a merged system, and other simulations of isolated King models with the same total number of particles as the merged system. After several relaxation times elapse, we extract a sample of snapshots of the sky-projected positions of particles from each simulation at different dynamical times, and we run a variety of clustering and classification algorithms to classify the snapshots into two subsets in a relevant feature space.
The Self-Organization Feature Map as an unsupervised network is very widely used these days in engineering science. The applied network in this paper is the Self Organization Feature Map with constant weights which includes Kohonen Network. In this research, Reinforced Concrete Shear Wall buildings with different stories and heights are analyzed and a database consisting of measured fundamental periods and characteristics of 78 RC SW buildings is created. The input parameters of these buildings include number of stories, height, length, width, whereas the output parameter is the fundamental period. In addition, using Genetic Algorithm, the structure of the Self-Organization Feature Map algorithm is optimized with respect to the numbers of layers, numbers of nodes in hidden layers, type of transfer function and learning. Evaluation of the SOFM model was performed by comparing the obtained values to the measured values and values calculated by expressions given in building codes. Results show that the Self-Organization Feature Map, which is optimized by using Genetic Algorithm, has a higher capacity, flexibility and accuracy in predicting the fundamental period.
In the conventional clustering algorithms, an object could be assigned to only one group. However, this is sometimes not the case in reality, there are cases where the data do not belong to one group. As against, the fuzzy clustering takes into consideration the degree of fuzzy membership of each pixel relative to different classes. In order to overcome some shortcoming with traditional clustering methods, such as slow convergence and their sensitivity to initialization values, we have used the Harmony Search algorithm. It is based on the population metaheuristic algorithm, imitating the musical improvisation process. The major thrust of this algorithm lies in its ability to integrate the key components of population-based methods and local search-based methods in a simple optimization model. We propose in this paper a new unsupervised clustering method called the Fuzzy Harmony Search-Fourier Transform (FHS-FT). It is based on hybridization fuzzy clustering and the harmony search algorithm to increase its exploitation process and to further improve the generated solution, while the Fourier transform to increase the size of the image's data. The results show that the proposed method is able to provide viable solutions as compared to previous work.
In this paper an attempt has been made to classify Asia land cover considering climatic and vegetative characteristics. The sub-class clustering based on the 13 MODIS land cover classes (except water) over Asia was performed with the climate map and the NOVI derived from SPOT 5 VGT D10 data. The unsupervised classification for the sub-class clustering was performed in each land cover class, and total 74 clusters were determined over the study area. Via these clusters, the annual variations (from 1999 to 2007) of precipitation rate and temperature were analyzed as an example by a simple linear regression model. The various annual variations (negative or positive pattern) were represented for each cluster because of the various climate zones and NOVI annual cycles. Therefore, the detailed land cover map as the classification result by the sub-class clustering in this study can be useful information in modelling works for requiring the detailed climatic and vegetative information as a boundary condition.
Locating and assessing the severity of damage in large or complex structures is one of the most challenging problems in the field of civil engineering. Considering that the wavelet packet transform (WPT) has the ability to clearly reflect the damage characteristics of structural response signals and the artificial neural network (ANN) is capable of learning in an unsupervised manner and of forming new classes when the structural exhibits change, this paper investigates a multi-stage structural damage diagnosis method by using the WPT and ANN based on "energy-damage" theory, in which, the wavelet packet component energies are first extracted to be damage sensitive feature and then adopted as input into an improved back propagation (BP) neural network model for damage diagnosis in a step by step mode. To validate the efficacy of the presented approach of the damage diagnosis, the benchmark structure of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is employed in the case study. The results of damage diagnosis indicate that the method herein is computationally efficient and is able to detect the existence of different damage patterns in the simulated experiment where minor, moderate and severe damages corresponds to involving in the loss of stiffness on braces or the removal bracing in various combinations.
Mean-reverting analysis refers to a way of estimating the underlining tendency after new data has evoked the variation in the equilibrium state. In this paper, we propose a new method to interpret the specular portraits of Premature Ventricular Contraction(PVC) arrhythmia by applying K-means unsupervised learning algorithm on electrocardiogram(ECG) data. Aiming at this purpose, we applied a mean-reverting model to analyse Heart Rate Variability(HRV) in terms of the modified poincare plot by considering PVC rhythm as the component of disrupting the homeostasis state. Based on our experimental tests on MIT-BIH ECG database, we can find the fact that the specular patterns portraited by K-means clustering on mean-reverting HRV data can be more clearly visible and the Euclidean metric can be used to identify the discrepancy between the normal sinus rhythm and PVC beats by the relative distance among cluster-centroids.
Security plays a vital role and is the key challenge in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANET). Infrastructure-less nature of MANET makes it arduous to envisage the genre of topology. Due to its inexhaustible access, information disseminated by roaming nodes to other nodes is susceptible to many hazardous attacks. Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPS) is undoubtedly a defense structure to address threats in MANET. Many IDPS methods have been developed to ascertain the exceptional behavior in these networks. Key issue in such IDPS is lack of fast self-organized learning engine that facilitates comprehensive situation awareness for optimum decision making. Proposed "Intelligent Behavioral Hybridized Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IBH_IDPS)" is built with computational intelligence to detect complex multistage attacks making the system robust and reliable. The System comprises of an Intelligent Client Agent and a Smart Server empowered with fuzzy inference rule-based service engine to ensure confidentiality and integrity of network. Distributed Intelligent Client Agents incorporated with centralized Smart Server makes it capable of analyzing and categorizing unethical incidents appropriately through unsupervised learning mechanism. Experimental analysis proves the proposed model is highly attack resistant, reliable and secure on devices and shows promising gains with assured delivery ratio, low end-to-end delay compared to existing approach.
In this article we address some system characteristics and challenging issues in developing Context-aware Middleware for Ubiquitous Computing. The functionalities of a Context-aware Middleware includes gathering context data from hardware/software sensors, reasoning and inferring high-level context data, and disseminating/delivering appropriate context data to interested applications/services. The Middleware should facilitate the query, aggregation, and discovery for the contexts, as well as facilities to specify their privacy policy. Following a formal context model using ontology would enable syntactic and semantic interoperability, and knowledge sharing between different domains. Moddleware should also provide different kinds of context classification mechanical as pluggable modules, including rules written in different types of logic (first order logic, description logic, temporal/spatial logic, fuzzy logic, etc.) as well as machine-learning mechanical (supervised and unsupervised classifiers). Different mechanisms have different power, expressiveness and decidability properties, and system developers can choose the appropriate mechanism that best meets the reasoning requirements of each context. And finally, to promote the context-trigger actions in application level, it is important to provide a uniform and platform-independent interface for applications to express their need for different context data without knowing how that data is acquired. The action could involve adapting to the new environment, notifying the user, communicating with another device to exchange information, or performing any other task.
