  • The recent earthquake of Pohang (M5.4) and the Gyeongju earthquake (M5.8) suggested the possibility of a strong earthquake in Korea and reminded us that the Korea is no longer an earthquake-safe zone. In the disaster recovery stage in a disaster like an earthquake, the investigation of the damage situation and the safety assessment of the building serve to provide important information for the initial action such as establishment of the recovery strategy and rescue of the survivor. However, the research that depends on manpower can not cope with the difficulty of processing a large number of doses in a short time, and the expertise of the manpower must be taken into consideration, which may result in delayed initial action. In this study, we propose an rapid safety evaluation technique of building using unmanned aerial vehicle which evaluates the performance and safety of buildings by integrating conventional safety inspection method with unmanned aerial vehicle technology and developed evaluation method of each evaluation factor. In order to verify this, the buildings damaged by the earthquake in Pohang were checked and compared using this system. The results are consistent with the results of the existing emergency earthquake risk assessment. As a result, the possibility of checking the emergency safety using the unmanned aerial vehicle for the damaged structures in case of a large-scale disaster such as an earthquake was confirmed.

  • This paper discusses the utilization of fault-tolerant technology in the industry by analyzing the status of drone failures in the unmanned vehicle industry survey conducted in 2020. Based on the survey results of the domestic unmanned vehicle industry, we identify subsystems with high fault rates and high severity when faults occur. In addition, fault simulations of the identified subsystems are conducted to analyze the effect of the fault on the vehicles. After that, the fault diagnosis and fault compensation methods studied so far are reviewed, and research cases of the methods are examined. Moreover, the ways to apply it to actual fault cases in the unmanned vehicle industry are debated. Furthermore, based on the previous discussion, the fault-tolerant system is presented, and the consideration when designing the fault-tolerant system in the industry are studied.

  • This paper describes the mathematical modeling, control algorithm, system design, hardware implementation and experimental test of a Manta-type Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (MUUV). The vehicle has one thruster for longitudinal propulsion, one rudder for heading angle control and two elevators for depth control. It is equipped with a pressure sensor for measuring water depth and Doppler Velocity Log for measuring position and angle. The vehicle is controlled by an on-board PC, which runs with the Windows XP operating system. The dynamic model of 6DOF is derived including the hydrodynamic forces and moments acting on the vehicle, while the hydrodynamic coefficients related to the forces and moments are obtained from experiments or estimated numerically. We also utilized the values obtained from PMM (Planar Motion Mechanism) tests found in the previous publications for numerical simulations. Various controllers such as PID, Sliding mode, Fuzzy and $H{\infty}$ are designed for depth and heading angle control in order to compare the performance of each controller based on simulation. In addition, experimental tests are carried out in a towing tank for depth keeping and heading angle tracking.

  • This paper presents a sensor fusion-based estimation of heading and a Bezier curve-based motion planning for unmanned ground vehicle. For the vehicle to drive itself autonomously and safely, it should estimate its pose with sufficient accuracy in reasonable processing time. The vehicle should also have a path planning algorithm that enables to adapt to various situations on the road, especially at intersections. First, we address a sensor fusion-based estimation of the heading of the vehicle. Based on extended Kalman filter, the algorithm estimates the heading using the GPS, IMU, and wheel encoders considering the reliability of each sensor measurement. Then, we propose a Bezier curve-based path planner that creates several number of path candidates which are described as Bezier curves with adaptive control points, and selects the best path among them that has the maximum probability of passing through waypoints or arriving at target points. Experiments under various outdoor conditions including at intersections, verify the reliability of our algorithm.

  • In this paper, we design a system that can control unmanned mobile objects through communication between unmanned mobile object and control server system using LoRa network which is a dedicated IoT network. It is more efficient when the unmanned mobile object performs the special work by installing the LoRa network applied to the unmanned mobile object control system from the small space house or office hospital to the factory. In this paper, we will discuss the design of a system that can improve the social utilization of unmanned mobile objects by making it possible to communicate the events that occur around other mobile objects from the simplification of the navigation path.

  • As the industry using unmanned vehicles expands, scenarios in which multiple unmanned vehicles are applied to various fields are attracting attention. One unmanned vehicle has limitations in operating time and range, and by using multiple unmanned vehicles, it has the advantage of providing services in a much wider range and shortening the operating time. Taking advantage of these advantages, recent attempts are being made to apply a number of unmanned mobile vehicles to fields such as disasters and broadcasting beyond military use. In this paper, we present a scenario for a data interworking system that can send and receive data from a distance based on a network using multiple unmanned vehicles.

  • This paper, the integration of driving simulator and unmanned vehicle by means of new concept for better performance through a tele-operated system is suggested. But autonomous system is one of the most difficult research topics from the point of view of several constrains on mobility, speed of vehicle and lack of environmental information. In these days, however, many innovations on the vehicle provide the appropriate automatic control in vehicle subsystem for reducing human error. This tendency is toward to the unmanned vehicle or the tele-operated vehicle ultimately. This paper describes the motion system ...

  • Purpose: We generated geospatial information of unmanned aerial vehicle based on various SW and analyzed the location accuracy of orthoimage and DSM and texture mapping of 3D mesh. Method: The same unmanned aerial image data is processed using two different SW, and spatial information is generated. Among the generated spatial information, the orthoimage and DSM were compared with the spatial information generation results of the unmanned aerial photogrammetry SW by performing quantitative analysis by calculating RMSE of horizontal position and vertical position error and performing qualitative analysis. Results: There were no significant differences in the positional accuracy of the orthoimage and DSM generated by each SW, and differences in texture mapping in 3D mesh. The creation of the 3D mesh indicated the impact of the Unmanned Aerial Photogrammetry SW. Conclusion: It is shown that there is no effect of SW on the creation of orthoimage and DSM for geospatial analysis based on unmanned aerial vehicle. However, when 3D visualization is performed, texture mapping results are different depending on SW.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) and also estimates how well autonomous navigation and remote control of UGV can be performed through the optimized arbitration of several sensor data, which are acquired from vision, obstacle detection, positioning system, etc. For the autonomous navigation, lane detection and tracing, global positioning, and obstacle avoidance are necessarily required. In addition, for the remote control, two types of experimental environments are established. One is to use a commercial racing wheel module, and the other is to use a haptic device that is useful for a user application based on virtual reality. Experimental results show that autonomous navigation and remote control of the designed UGV can be achieved with more effectiveness and accuracy using the proper arbitration of sensor data and navigation plan.

  • This paper proposes an approach to fused navigation of an unmanned surface vehicle(USV) and to detection of the outlier or interference of global positioning system(GPS). The method fuses available sensor measurements through extended Kalman filter(EKF) to find the location and attitude of the USV. The method uses error covariance of EKF for detection of GPS outlier or interference. When outlier or interference of the GPS is detected, the method excludes GPS data from navigation process. The measurements to be fused for the navigation are GPS, acceleration, angular rate, magnetic field, linear velocity, range and bearing to acoustic beacons. The method is tested through simulated data and measurement data produced through ground navigation. The results show that the method detects GPS outlier or interference as well as the GPS recovery, which frees navigation from the problem of GPS abnormality.
