The purpose of this study is to define areas and standards of kindergarten teacher's competency through survey research and interview with early childhood education community - kindergarten teachers, vice principals, principals, administrators, parents, and professors in early childhood education. Raw data from 62 interviewees were grouped into 25 codes including 'professional knowledge about young children's developmental characteristics, and labeled for representative themes. Based on the result of interview analysis, two areas of 'knowledge and skill' area (15 standards) and 'attitude and grounding' area (20 standards) were classified, survey researched for appropriateness and relative importance of each standard. 704 members of early childhood education community were collected through stratified sampling. The research findings indicate that 'observation and evaluation ability for young children' and 'affection for young children' showed high appropriateness in 'knowledge and skill area' and 'attitude and grounding area', respectively. In the relative importance analysis, 'understanding of young children's development', 'understanding of curriculum for young children', and 'understanding of young children's behavioral problem and counseling' for knowledge and skill area, and 'respect for young children', 'affection for young children', responsibility', 'positive attitude' for attitude and grounding area showed high relative importance in order.
This study seeks to determine children's poem composition through an activity-based nature experiencing program and how it affects their language expression and peer interaction. This research also seeks to provide preliminary data for producing more effective lecturing and learning plans. The forty participants in the study included twenty 5-year-old children from E kindergarten and 20 5-year-old children from G kindergarten in N city. The results of the study demonstrated that children in the experimental group who experienced the poem composing activity with the nature experiencing program demonstrated a positive effect in terms of the quality of language expression as well as peer interaction. These results indicate that children's poem composing activity done with nature experiencing program could be used as a new lecture and learning method for the development of language expression and peer interaction in early childhood education.
Consumers' expenditure is getting larger on children due to their parents' compensation for increase of double-income family life and decrease of birth rate caused by high economic growth. Increase of demand on children items in the market leads the necessity of development of furniture for children. This study is aimed to design children chairs that meet the environment for children. In this study, the age of children is defined to be 5~7 years old. In order to investigate what causes environment change, this study covers roughly change of environment, change of learning program and use of environment-friendly material. In such scope, we drew out the factors that the chairs for children shall be equipped with. Case studies were done through such drawn factors. The scope of the furniture for children is limited to the chairs for children among the ones made in either Korea or overseas. As a result, we could draw out such keyword of the furniture as storage, mobility, environment-friendly, object style image, preferred color, functionality and safety, based on which we could plan the design and make the final result through high frequency round molding manufacturing process.

It should be given the opportunity to acquire information about the health of infants for a new type of way of life with the passage of time, of which the internet is a lot of people are required to use the media in the modern world. So, we want to find out the status of kindergarten teachers' internet utilizing and how to utilize the internet health information on field. The purpose of this study is to explore the direction of improvement. We produce this research based on a precedent study about perception and actual condition of health information utilizing. The objects of this study are 180 kindergarten teachers working in Dae-jeon and most of them have experience of searching health information through internet. The collected data calculated frequency and percentage with SPSS 18.0 program. As a result, first, kindergarten teachers think the information of infants' health is relatively important, still they obtain it from the Internet. But they feel a difficulty in finding the proper information because it takes so much time. Second, they utilize the Internet whenever necessary to find health information and they could find it. However, health information obtained from the Internet, have not been unexpectedly useful. Therefore, training about the content of infant's health and utilizing method of internet health information is needed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how young children recognize the image of robots, and how they understand the relationship between themselves and robots based on school experience. 20 children from kindergarten A had no direct experience with educational robots, whereas 20 children from kindergarten B had experience in using educational robots in their classroom. Total 40 children from age group 5 class participated in this study. We collected data using interview and drawing test. The findings of the study are as follows: First, participating children recognized robots as having both the character of a machine and a human. But children with previous robot experience provided description of robots as a machine-tool. Both groups were not able to explain the structure of robots in details. Second, participating children understood that they can develop a range of social relationships with robots, including simple help to family replacement. There were mixed views on robots among the children with previous experience, but children with no experience described robots as taking the role of peers or family members. These findings could contribute to the development of robots and related programs in the field of early childhood education.
Background and objective: This study was conducted to identify the components of kindergartener horticultural education by deriving objective components of horticultural education using the Delphi survey method, and then to provide basic data that can be used when creating horticultural programs in the regular curriculum. Methods: A total of 32 experts including professors of early childhood education, kindergarten directors, horticultural therapy professors, and horticultural therapists were selected as the Delphi panel. Of the 32 selected, only 29 answered all three rounds of the surveys. For the first round of the survey, an open-ended questionnaire, was used, and in the second and third rounds closed-ended questionnaires were used. Results: Results indicated that under the category of the goals of horticultural education, there were 7 items related to the current problems of horticultural education, 16 items related to the need for horticultural education in the smart age, 18 items related to the direction of horticultural education, and 5 items related to the areas most suitable for horticulture education for young children in the Nuri Curriculum. Results in the category of the implementation of horticultural education indicated that 2 items related to horticultural education hours, 3 items related to the venue for horticultural education, 2 items related to the activity types applicable to the Nuri Curriculum, and 4 items related to the objects of horticultural activities were derived. As the current problems of horticultural education, the following items were identified: event-oriented activity (M = 4.24) and lack of kindergarten teachers' opportunities for systematic gardening education (M = 4.21). The results related to the necessity of horticultural education indicated the following items: education on respect for life through caring (M = 4.59), emotional intelligence and stability (M = 4.55), directly experience of the growth process of plants (M = 4.55), and development of the five senses (M = 4.55). Finally, within the direction of horticultural education: nurturing the desire to live with nature (M = 4.50), and learning about life (M = 4.44) was identified, which had higher averages. Within the areas of the Nuri Curriculum, which is most consistent with horticultural education, nature exploration (M = 4.69) and the integration of all areas (M = 4.59) were derived as priorities. Also, regarding the implementation of horticultural education, the following items were derived as the priority from the expert group: 30-40 minutes (M = 4.14) and 40-50 minutes (M = 4.14) for class periods, outdoor garden in a kindergarten(M = 4.66) for the venue of gardening education, outside play (M = 4.59) for the activity type, and vegetable crops (M = 4.55) for the objects of gardening activities. Conclusion: It is significant that the goal and implementation of kindergartner horticultural education were objectively derived through collecting opinions of expert panels. The purpose of this study was to explore kindergarten students' attitude toward science by their gender and teachers' background. 90 kindergarten teachers and 180 5-year-old students were intentionally sampled in a suburban area. The research instruments used in this study were the interview questions of student attitude to science and the teacher's background questionnaire. The interview questions constructed by two researchers, based on "The Students' Attitude to Science Scale"(Pell & Farvis, 2001). It was composed of 13 questions; 7 questions on preference for science and 6 on perception to science. The teacher's background questionnaire was consisted of I question on educational background, I on career, and 51 on scientific literacy("Test of Basic Scientific Literacy")(Laugksch & Spargo, 1996). The results revealed that the students' attitude to science was positive and was different by their teachers' educational background, not by their gender and their teacher's career and scientific literacy. However, the students showed different preference for science by their teachers' scientific literacy. These results imply that early childhood teachers should have enough chances to be more educated and to improve their scientific literacy.
The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze special teachers' perception on virtual reality based intervention program.(VRIP) for students with disabilities. The survey participants consisted of 364 special teachers who were working in special class or special school. Questionnaires with unfaithful responses were excluded, and a total of 324 questionnaires were analyzed. Data analysis was carried out through independent t-test and ANOVA. According to the results of study, Male special teachers' acceptance intention towards VRIP were higher than female special teachers. Special teachers with educational career within 10 years had more positive awareness than special teachers with educational career above 15 years. Special teachers in middle and high school teachers were higher than special teachers in kindergarten. In the aspects on another factors, special teachers with educational career within 10 years more positive awareness than special teachers with educational career above 15 years. Special teachers in middle and high school teachers were higher than special teachers in kindergarten.
This study was practiced in order to develop a textbook to improve early childhood teachers' ability to use multimedia required by kindergartens and to examine its effects. First, investigation of the status of multimedia application of early childhood teachers in kindergartens was done along with looking through their attitude and anxiety. The expertise and the multimedia education was required in early childhood education and curriculum. As a result, 15 categories and 50 subcategories under 4 themes were drawn through the procedures of qualitative analysis. The conclusions obtained through this study were the following: First, the education for multimedia application related to the tasks required in kindergartens is needed instead of the common education for multimedia application, to improve the ability to use multimedia for early childhood teachers. Second, multimedia education based on visual theory for the purpose of early childhood education, rather than common features-centered multimedia education, is helpful for the improvement of early childhood teachers' ability to use multimedia. Finally, the improvement of early childhood teachers' ability to use multimedia will be a chance to provide children with a better educational environment.
This study examines the influence of early English education on children's bilingual language development to see whether the early exposure to English education affects children's competencies of both English and Korean. Based on this purpose, it attempts to examine whether it supports additive or subtractive bilingualism. The competencies of both English and Korean of the children with early English education were, therefore, compared with those of the children without it, and the relation between the two competencies was also studied. For this research, two different groups of children - one with 48 children who attend English kindergarten and the other with 60 children who attend only Korean kindergarten - took PPVT-R in Korean and in English each. The result shows that children with early English education have more English competency than those without it. No significant differences, however, are found in Korean competency between the two groups. The relation between the two competencies proves positive in children with early English education. It can thus be concluded that the effect of early English education is partially positive on children's language development, which may support the additive bilingualism that children's second language can improve without losing their native language competency. In addition, this result will be able to provide for us the direction and the guideline to the policy of foreign language education and early education.
