The purposes of this study were to analyze chemistry problem solving processes of middle school students and to compare their problem solving behaviors in the aspects of the cognitive developmental level of student, the success in problem solving, and the context of problem. Their failures in solving problems were also analyzed in the aspects of problem solving stage and prior knowledge. Forty-two students individually solved four problems regarding density and solubility using a think-aloud method. Students' responses were analyzed after intercoder agreement for analyzing problem-solving processes had been established to be 0.94. The results were as follows: 1. Most students solved chemistry problems following the stages of understanding, planning, and solving, while few exhibited the behaviors of the reviewing stage. There was also individual difference in the number of the stages repeated and their behaviors at each stage. 2. Most students were successful in understanding problems. However, unsuccessful and/or concrete-operational students had more difficulties in understanding problems than successful and/or formal-operational students, and students tended to have more difficulties in understanding problems in everyday contexts than in scientific contexts. 3. Successful and/or formal-operational students exhibited more behaviors of the planning stage than unsuccessful and/or concrete-operational students. Students showed more behaviors of the planning stage, but failed more at this stage, in everyday contexts than in scientific contexts. 4. Most students did not review their solutions. Successful and/or formal-operational students exhibited these behaviors more than unsuccessful and/or concrete-operational students. Students tended to exhibit the behaviors more in everyday contexts than in scientific contexts. 5. Many students failed to solve problems correctly due to the lack of prior knowledge and the inability to plan appropriately.

T-test was conducted to analyze the difference of teaching & learning performance between students with financial support and those who did not, and then the difference analysis by grades was F-test. The average value of the subjects' teaching & learning satisfaction scores was 2.99, and the result was higher than that of the female students. The higher the age, the higher the grade, the higher the grade, the higher the financial support students were. The average of teaching & learning achievement composition items of the survey subjects was 2.27, and it was found that male students, older students, and students who received financial support had higher average of teaching & learning outcomes than students who did not receive financial support respectively. Students who receive financial support have higher teaching & learning satisfaction and outcomes than students who are not financially supported. The longer the period of financial support, the older the better, and the male students are more satisfied with the teaching & learning, the better the teaching & learning.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The consumption of dietary supplements has shown an increase among young people in their 20s. We aimed to compare the use of dietary supplements and related factors between Chinese international and Korean college students living in South Korea. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We conducted online surveys of 400 Chinese international students and 452 Korean college students from January to February 2021. We analyzed the factors related to the use of dietary supplements by these students using multi-group structural equation modeling and logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Approximately 65% of the Chinese international students and 93% of the Korean college students consumed dietary supplements at least once in the year preceding the survey. The common types of dietary supplements consumed by both groups of students were vitamin and mineral supplements, Lactobacillus products, and red ginseng products. Structural equation modeling showed that perception of the consumption of dietary supplements by family and friends positively influenced attitude toward dietary supplements. This effect was higher for Korean college students than for Chinese international students (P < 0.01). Attitude toward dietary supplements positively influenced their use, and this effect was higher for Chinese international students than for Korean college students (P < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that the use of dietary supplements by Chinese international students was significantly associated with age, self-reported health status, interest in health, perception of and attitude toward dietary supplements, and length of residence in South Korea. Among Korean college students, it was associated with exercise frequency and attitude toward dietary supplements. CONCLUSION: This study showed significant differences in the use of dietary supplements and related factors between Chinese international and Korean college students. Therefore, nutrition education programs on dietary supplements need to have differentiated content for each group. Such differences also suggest that the industry should consider the relevant characteristics of college students while developing and marketing dietary supplements.

Purpose : This study aims to examine the effect of ego resilience and social support on test anxiety for university students majoring in occupational therapy and use the results as foundational data for program development that can reduce test anxiety. Methods : The study's subjects were 173 university students who understood the study's purpose and consented to participate in the study from March 7 to 25 in 2022. These students were in their second, third, and fourth years, majoring in occupational therapy at a four-year B university in A Metropolitan City and a three-year E College in D-gun C Province. Among them, those with missing data or indicated extreme values were excluded, and data from the final 168 students were studied. Results : The averages of test anxiety, ego resilience, and social support of university students majoring in occupational therapy were 3.06, 3.41, and 3.81, respectively. The factor that affected test anxiety was investigated. It was the school year in which the test anxiety of fourth-year students was significantly higher than that of second-year students. In addition, a positive attitude, which was one of the sub-factors of ego resilience, and support from friends and family, which were the sub-factors of social support, had a negative impact on test anxiety. Conclusion : The results of this study are as follows: First, it is necessary to conduct a study to verify the level of test anxiety of university students majoring in occupational therapy and the factors influencing them. Second, the operation and consultation of non-curricular programs that improve the ego resilience of university students should be conducted in universities and departments. Third, a measure to recognize support from surrounding environment and to ask for help from people around them should be required for university students majoring in occupational therapy.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze effects of drinking motives on binge drinking and the difference between male and female students. Methods: A survey was conducted for 500 college students in three towns in Gang-won Province. Frequency analysis was used for demographic item and group regression analysis for effects of drinking motives on binge drinking. Results: Sub-factor-uplift motives, social motives, coping motives and tuning motives were analyzed. It was found that uplift motives, social motives and coping motives influenced binge drinking significantly(p<0.001). But tuning motives had no significant effect. Also for male students, uplift motives affected binge drinking significantly(p<0.001) whereas female students were not affected by it. In contrast, social motives had an influence on binge drinking significantly (0<0.001) for female students while it didn't affect male students. Coping motives affected both male and female students on binge drinking by p<0.001. Conclusions: College students' drinking motives had a significant influence on binge drinking, and since it is reported that there is difference between male and female student group, a guideline and education for drinking regarding gender difference is needed for the establishment of desirable drinking culture for college students.
