In this article, stability of composite conical shells subjected to dynamic external pressure is investigated by numerical and experimental methods. In experimental tests, cross-ply glass woven fabrics were selected for manufacturing of specimens. Hand-layup method was employed for fabricating the glass-epoxy composite shells. A test-setup that includes pressure vessel and data acquisition system was designed. Also, numerical analyses are performed. In these analyses, effect of actual geometrical imperfections of experimental specimens on the numerical results is investigated. For introducing the imperfections to the numerical models, linear eigen-value buckling analyses were employed. The buckling modes are multiplied by very small numbers that are derived from measurement of actual specimens. Finally, results are compared together while a good agreement between results of imperfect numerical analyses and experimental tests is observed.

A non linear QSAR model was constructed on a series of 57 xanthone and curcuminoide derivatives as ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitors by back-propagation neural network method. The neural network architecture was optimized to obtain a three-layer neural network, composed of five descriptors, nine hidden neurons and one output neuron. A good predictive determination coefficient was obtained (${R^2}_{Pset}$ = 86.7%), the statistical results being better than those obtained with the same data set using a multiple regression analysis (MLR). As in the MLR model, the descriptor MATS7v weighted by Van der Waals volume was found as the most important independent variable on the ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory.

Leiomyoma is a type of benign smooth muscle neoplasm that is a common neoplasm of the uterus and gastrointestinal tract but rarely affects the head and neck region and is especially unlikely to affect the oral cavity. The diagnosis of leiomyoma is mainly determined by histopathological studies due to variation in its clinical appearance and symptoms. In the present paper we report two rare cases of gingival angioleiomyoma in the posterior maxilla and mandible. After total excision, hematoxylin-eosin and smooth muscle actin staining confirmed the diagnosis of angioleimyoma.

Extracellular polysaccharide was produced by Pseudomonas elodea ATCC 31461 under aerobic condition. Nitrogen sources in medium affected cell growth and production of exopolymer. Ammonium nitrate limitation was found to be essential for higher production of exopolymer. Conversion rate of exopolymer from glucose under ammonium nitrate limitation was about 5 times higher than with ammonium nitrate.

A new prenylated pyranoxanthone, inophyllin B (1), was isolated from the roots of Calophyllum inophyllum (Guttiferae). Together with this compound was also isolated the known pyranoxanthone brasilixanthone B (2) and two common triterpenes friedelin (3) and sitosterol (4). Structural elucidations of these compounds were achieved through $^1H,\;^{13}C$, DEPT, COSY, HSQC and HMBC experiments. The molecular mass was determined using MS techniques. The crude extract indicated weak toxicity to the larvae of Aedes aegypti. We report here the isolation, structural elucidation and bioassay data for Inophyllin B and brasilixanthone B.

Identification of rice paddy fields and estimation of their areas from the images taken by LANDSAT-5/TM were attempted. The results were verified by aerial photographs and also by ground observations. Changes of the spectral characteristics of rice plants were measured with a portable spectroradiometer during the growth period. Analyzing these characteristics, an index was developed for evaluating the growth and the yield of rice . Applying the index to the data observed by LANDSAT-5.TM on Sep. 26, 1986, Oct .20, 1989 and Sep, 21, 1990, it was confirmed that the estimated derived from the index agreed with actual values. The results well demonstrated its feasibility for evaluating the yield of rice by a satellite like LANDSAT-5/TM.

In this study, some aryl (3-methyl-benzofuran-2-yl) ketoximes and their ethers and esters were synthesised. The structure elucidation of the compounds was performed by IR, $^1H-NMR$, MASS spectroscopy and elemental analyses. Antifungal activities of the compounds were examined and moderate activity was obtained.

Background: In this study, we aimed to determine platelet indices such as platelet count (PLT), mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), Plateletcrit (PCT) platelet count (PLT) in lung cancer cases, and evaluate any relationships between these parameters and stage or histologic types. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study covered 44 lung cancer patients and 47 healthy subjects. Platelet indices including PLT, PCT, MPV, PDW were estimated and compared with normal subjects. The results were evaluated statistically. Results: The PDW value was significantly higher in the cancer group compared to the control group; however, the values for PCT and MPV were lower. Conclusions: We suggest potential use of platelet indices in diagnosis of lung cancer.

3-Acetyl-5-benzoyl-6-methyl-2-phenyl-4H-pyran-4-one has been subjected to condensation with a series of primary amines (ethylamine - octylamine) to clarify the proposed mechanism in our previous study. The reactions of the shorter amines of the series (ethylamine - butylamine) yielded unsymmetric pyridinone products, whereas the other amines (pentylamine - octylamine) yielded symmetrical pyridinones. The starting material and the products as well as the intermediates have been subjected to theoretical analysis by quantum chemical calculations at B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level, which provided supporting data for the experimental findings.

Metabolites, such as isopropyl alcohol (IPA) produced by rumen fermentation, were intravenously infused into a jugular vein of goats during feeding to explore the mechanism and roles of IPA in ruminating behavior (number of boli and ruminating time). Three female goats were confined in metabolism cages with a stanchion, The ruminating behavior measured by the number of ruminations, ruminating time, number of remastications, and remasticating time decreased (p<0,05) with intravenous IPA infusion. The IPA concentrations and VFA concentrations increased in the blood circulation. Our data suggest that sensitive receptors of rumination to IPA are more likely to be in an area such as the brain stem where they can respond to blood metabolite levels.
