  • This study was conducted to identify the effects of high-heel shoes on EMG activities of rectus femoris and biceps femoris in 28 healthy women. Subjects were composed of experimental group (wearing high-heel shoes) and control group (wearing low-heel shoes). Two groups participated in three conditions standing (bare foot wearing athletic shoes and 7.5 cm height shoes). In high-heel shoes condition, EMG activities of rectus femoris of control group were significantly lower than that of biceps femoris of experimental group, but EMG activities of both muscles of experimental group did not should significant difference. In bare foot standing condition, EMG activities of rectus femoris of experimental group were significantly lower than that of biceps femoris but EMG activities of both muscles of control group had no significant difference. These results showed that hamstring lengthening effects was produced when wearing high-heel shoes because the external knee extension moment was increased. In the short term, high-heel shoes effect on the increase of the biceps femoris activities by spindle reflex, but in the long term, the normal amplitude of the same muscle activities by Golgi tendon organ reflex.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the corporate responsibility activities and investigate the effects of these activities on financial performance in public institutions. Methods: The collected data using annual performance evaluation for the year 2017-2019 were analyzed using multi-regression analysis. The corporate social responsibility activities for this study were divided into three dimensions such as social value, efficiency, and welfare. Results: The results of this study are as follows; first, public institutions with high evaluation in social value and welfare had a significant positive effect on financial performance factors such as ROA and ROS. Second, we find that there is a significant negative relation between social value activities and debt ratio. This result means that the higher social value activities, the lower debt ratio. It was also found that the activities for enhancing social value made statistically significant positive influence on BIS performance. Conclusion: These results can be interpreted that public institutions trying various social contribution activities does not necessarily bring negative results for financial performance. In conclusion, it means that socially responsible activities and ethical management in the desirable direction can be beneficial to both public institutions and the society to which they belong.

  • Acharan sulfate (AS) is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) prepared from the giant African snail, Achatina fulica. In this study, some biological activities of AS were evaluated on the basis of structural similarities to heparin/heparan sulfate and the biological functions of GAGs. We demonstrated that it exhibited strong immunostimulating activities as measured by carbon clearance test in mice and in vivo phagocytosis. It also exhibited a significant hypoglycemic activity in epinephrine (EP)-induced hyperglycemia as well as antifatigue effects by weight-loaded forced swimming test. And it showed hypolipidemic activities in cholesterol-rich mixture induced hyperlipidemia in rats. The above results indicate that AS has diverse biological activities and suggest therapeutically important target molecules.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of job satisfaction and organizational commitment on patient safety management activities of nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional design was adopted. The sample included 307 nurses working in three tertiary university hospitals. Data were collected during November and December, 2012, with a response rate of 93%. A 40-item patient safety management activities scale was used to measure patient safety activities. Job satisfaction and organizational commitment were also measured with established instruments and included general characteristics. Data were analyzed with PASW 18.0 program. Results: The mean score for patient safety management activities was 3.98 out of 5. Stepwise multiple linear regression indicated that organizational commitment (${\beta}$=.20, p<.001) and job satisfaction (${\beta}$=.18, p=.013) respectively predicted patient safety management activities. Especially, the addition of organizational commitment as the strongest predictor of patient safety management activities increased the associated explained variance ($R^2$ change=.11, p<.001). Conclusion: It is important for managers to create an organizational climate that promotes the organizational commitment and job satisfaction of nurses. Future studies are encouraged to replicate the findings and also to better understand patient safety management activities and personal emotional stability.
