  • This study investigated whether there are differences between Korean-English bilingual and Korean monolingual children on phonological awareness skills. Participants were 11 Korean-English bilingual children and 12 Korean monolingual children. The children's ages ranged between 6 and 7 years. The results were as follows. First, the bilingual children significantly outperformed monolingual children on overall phonological awareness tasks. The bilinguals performed significantly higher than monolinguals on all three types of phonological awareness tasks (segmentation, deletion, and blending). Second, there was a significant difference between the groups with respect to phonological units of the tasks. The bilinguals performed significantly better than monolinguals on the phonemic unit tasks, but two groups did not differ significantly on syllabic unit tasks. There was an interaction effect between unit size(syllables and phonemes) and group (bilinguals and monolinguals). Third, there were correlations for both bilingual and monolingual children between overall phonological awareness skills and word recognition skills.

  • In this study, we tried to compare the effect of glass inserts on marginal leakage of composite resin restoration by comparing with that of several filling methods. The results obtained from this experiment were as follows ; 1. The degree of microleakage measured in glass inserts group was generally lower than that of the other groups. Statistical analysis showed significant intergroup difference between glass inserts and one complete unit, pre-polymerized composite resin ball(P<.05), but no significant difference between groups of glass inserts and increments(P>.05). 2. Scanning electron microscopic observation showed relatively large gap around resin-tooth interface in specimens restored the method of using the one complete unit and pre-polymerized composite resin ball whereas a denser and tighter was observed in increments and glass inserts group. Generally the gingival margin was shown to have better bonds than the occlusal margin in specimen of all groups. 3. In the present experiment, methods using the techniques of glass inserts and increments were evaluated to be superior to those of one complete unit, pre-polymerized composite resin ball in the aspect of microleakage. However, the result of this study could not determine the superiority of the use of glass inserts over incremental method. Besides the physical properties observed in this study, the practical aspect of clinical convenience should be considered in determining the selection of material.

  • Recently, The concept of strategic groups is recognized as a basic unit of understanding framework in strategic management research. Researchers have consistently approached the relationship between strategic groups and organizational variables(organization structure vs strategies, management process vs strategies, management systems vs strategies, environment vs strategies, strategies vs performance). However the relationship between strategic groups and human resources has been neglected in theortical approach and empirical approach. Therefore this study explores the relationship between strategic groups and human resources management.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of the maxillary three-unit fixed dental prosthesis (FDPs) made using two CAD/CAM milling machines : DCM Group(Dentaim CAD/CAM milling machine), WCM Group(Wieland CAD/CAM milling machine). Methods: Each of 10 duplicate models was scanned by blue light scanner(Identica, Medit, Korea), and the three-unit FDPs (STL file) was designed using DelcamCAD. A total of 20 three-unit FDPs was fabricated, comprising 2 groups of 10 specimens each (shrinkage ratio is 1:1). The first three-unit FDPs STL file was used as a CAD reference model (CRM). Obtained STL files by scanning the inner surface of three-unit FDPs were convened into the point clouds-ASC II files. Discrepancies between the point clouds and CRM were measured by superimposition software. Statistical methods to analyze the data were used non-parametric method. The mean (SD) values were compared by a Mann-Whitney U-test. Type one error rate was set at 0.05. Results: WCM group had small discrepancies with $2.17{\mu}m$ of mean value compared to $4.44{\mu}m$ in DCM group. The accuracy values between the two groups showed a sratistically significant difference (Table 2, p<.05). Conclusion: The accuracy of the three-unit fixed dental prosthesis(FDPs) made of two CAD/CAM milling machines were statistically different. Accuracy with which the prosthesis made of WCM group was superior.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the dietary effect of turmeric powder (TP) on laying performances, egg qualities and its transfer to eggs. A total of two hundred, 60-wk-old, Lohmann Brown layers were divided into 4 groups, placed in to 5 replicates per group (10 layers each) and fed each one of four diets containing 0 % TP(control), 0.1 % TP, 0.25 % TP, or 0.5 % TP for 7 wks, respectively. Egg production and egg mass in groups fed diets containing TP were higher than that of control(p<0.05). No differences in feed intakes, egg and eggshell qualities were observed among the treatments, but egg yolk color was increased significantly as TP was in increased in the diet(p<0.05). In groups fed diets containing TP, Haugh unit after 14 day of storage was significantly higher than that of control(p<0.05). The curcumin content of egg yolk in groups fed diet containing 0.50% TP was significantly higher than those of other groups (p<0.05). The content of egg yolk cholesterol was not influenced by dietary TP.

  • PURPOSE. Alginate mixers available in the market do not have the automatic proportioning unit. In this study, an automatic proportioning unit for the alginate mixer and controller software were designed and produced for a new automatic proportioning unit. With this device, it was ensured that proportioning operation could arrange weight-based alginate impression materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The variation of coefficient in the tested groups was compared with the manual proportioning. Compression tension and tear tests were conducted to determine the mechanical properties of alginate impression materials. The experimental data were statistically analyzed using one way ANOVA and Tukey test at the 0.05 level of significance. RESULTS. No statistically significant differences in modulus of elastisity (P>0.3), tensional/compresional strength (P>0.3), resilience (P>0.2), strain in failure (P>0.4), and tear energy (P>0.7) of alginate impression materials were seen. However, a decrease in the standard deviation of tested groups was observed when the customized machine was used. To verify the efficiency of the system, powder and powder/water mixing were weighed and significant decrease was observed. CONCLUSION. It was possible to obtain more mechanically stable alginate impression materials by using the custom-made proportioning unit.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of utilizing concept maps in a rock-related unit. To do this, two groups composed of 73 sixth grade students engaged in this study. One group (experimental group) participated in utilizing concept maps in the unit, the other (control group) took part in traditional instruction in the same unit. The results of this study are as follows, after seventeen sessions: First, the achievement between the two groups showed significant difference. It indicates that utilizing concept maps as an instructional method is effective. Second, in the examination of the experimental group's attitudes toward concept maps, the students showed more affirmative responses on cognitive items than on affective items. Third, the students showed that they have difficulty in the method and the procedure of drawing up the concept maps. It indicates that the method and the procedure are sufficiently learned before instruction begins.
