  • The monitoring of the uniconazole residual pesticide for agricultural products was conducted by multiclass pesticide multiresidue methods. Samples were collected from June to November, 2011. Uniconazole pesticide was detected in 49 samples from a total of 3,939 samples. The amount of uniconazole pesticide ranged from 0.09 to 17.89 mg/kg in 49 samples. This method was described for the simultaneous determination of uniconazole by gas chromatography with a nitrogen phosphorus detector (GC-NPD) and mass spectrometry (MS). The limit of detection and quantification were 0.006 and 0.018 mg/kg GC-NPD, respectively. For an evaluation of the GC-NPD method, uniconazole spiked into gyeojachae at a level of 0.5, 5 mg/kg was determined. The recoveries of uniconazole by the GC-NPD method ranged from 83.4 to 101.4%. The results indicate that the method of simultaneous analysis is applicable to uniconazole analysis.

  • To develop Korean native lilies as mini-potted plants, the effects of plant growth retardants on inhibiting stem elongation and improving flowering rate were evaluated. Bulblets of Lilium concolor var. parthneion (5-7 g) and L. dauricum (3-4 g fresh wt) derived from in vitro culture and then enlarged by field culture were applied with 0, 25, 50, or $100mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ ancymidol, diniconazole, and uniconazole through bulb dipping, foliar spray, and drench. In L. concolor var. parthneion, uniconazole dipping most effectively reduced plant height by 60.7-78.3% depending on concentration compared with control without decreasing flowering percentage. In L. dauricum, dipping into diniconazole solution significantly retarded the plant height by 70.0-86.3% and improved flowering percentage by 8.3-18.2% compared to control of 0%. Drench of $25-50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ ancymidol was also effective on inhibition of stem elongation and improvement of flowering rate. Therefore, dipping into $50-100mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ uniconazole solution in L. concolor var. parthneion and dipping into $25mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ diniconazole solutions or drench of $25mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ ancymidol in L. dauricum can be useful to produce the mini-potted plants.

  • This experiment was conducted far the efficient use of plant growth retardants (PGR) for suppression of plug seedling height. 'Seokwang' tomato seeds were soaked in I5 mL solution of daminozide (1,000, 10,000, or 100,000 mg.L-1) or uniconazole (1, 10, or 100 mg.L-1). And then, they were put in $25^{\circ}C$ chamber for one or three days. Seeds were washed in tap waters and were dried in 5$^{\circ}C$ chamber for one day. Dried tomato seeds were sown and seedlings were raised in 288-cell plug trays. Seedlings grown were evaluated at 21 and 38 days after sowing. Treatments of 10 or 100 mg.L-1 uniconazole as compared to the control had significantly suppressed hypocotyl length and seedling height, but fresh and dry weights of roots, emergence, no. of leaves, chlorophyll concentration, dry matter, and T/R ratio were not significant by different among treatments.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of plant growth retardants (daminozide, chlormequat, uniconazole, paclobutrazole) and fungicides of triazole chemical (hexaconazole, microbutanil, difenoconazole, terbuconazole, bitertanol) on the growh of 'New Guinea' impatiens. Plant height and canopy were decreased by all kinds of plant growth retardants tested in both 'Anguilla' and 'Papete'. Especially, uniconazole and paclobutrazole were most effective in inhibition of top growth. However, the content of chlorophyll increased at all treatments of plant growth retardants and stem diameter tended to be increased at the highest concentration of all kinds of plant growth retardants tested. The results in all cultivars tested, with the experiment of triazole fungicides, were similar to the results of experiment with plant growth retardants. These results suggest that fungicides of triazole chemical such as hexaconazole, microbutanil, difenoconazole, terbuconazole and bitertanol can be used for the promotion of quality in potted 'New Guinea' impatiens.

  • This experiment was conducted to identify the effect of several plant growth retardants on endogenous ABA-like substance content and GA-like substance activity in seedlings of Sedirea japonica cultured in vitro. When seedlings of Sedirea japonica were treated with low concentration of 0.05 mg/L Uniconazole, 0.1 mg/L Ancymidol and 0.3 mg/L Paclobutrazol, the content of ABA-like substances of the leaf was lower than that of the control. However, the activity of GA-like substances was similar or higher in treated seedlings. In the mid and high concentrations of three kinds of growth retardants, the ABA-like substance content was increased, but GA-like substance activity was inhibited. The content of ABA-like substances in the root was lower in 0.05 and 0.2 mg/L Uniconazole, 0.2 mg/L Ancymidol and 0.1 mg/L Paclobutrazol treatments than that of the control, but in the mid and high concentration treatments, the content was increased. GA-like substance activity in low concentration was increased but in the mid and high concentration, the activity was inhibited compared with low concentration treatment.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of plant growth regulators on the growth and development of pot 'Pinto Rose' and 'Pinto Scarlet' geraniums. Plant height was increased by $GA_3$ treatments in both 'Pinto Rose' and 'Pinto Scarlet' geranium. However, the number of branches was not affected by $GA_3$ and daminozide treatments. The combined treatments of $GA_3$ and daminozide delayed the days to first flowering in 'Pinto Scarlet' geranium. Also, in 'Pinto Rose', $GA_3$ or the combination of $GA_3$ and daminozide treatments delayed the first flowering time. 'Pinto Scarlet' geranium was more sensitive to growth regulator treatments than 'Pinto Rose'. The number of flower stalks and branches were increased by uniconazole in 'Pinto Scarlet', while the flower stalk length and canopy diameter were severely decreased by uniconazole treatments in both cultivars. The days to first flowering tended to be delayed by all growth retardant treatments in geranium.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of plant growth retardants on the growth and characters related with lodging in rice. The results are summarized as follows. Plant height which is closely related to lodging was significantly inhibited by the application of inabenfide, paclobutrazol, and uniconazole. Among the tested application times, inabenfide, paclobutrazol, and uniconazole were the most effective in inhibiting plant height at 30, 20, 20 days before heading respectively. Inabenfide was markedly effective in reducing the lower (4th) internode length, whereas paclobutrazol and uniconazole were more effective in reducing the upper (3rd and 2nd) internode length. Internode wall of rice plant treated with chemicals was tended to be thickened as compared with control. Heading date was not influenced by inabenfide, but paclobutrazol and uniconazole were inhibited 1 or 2 days in heading date as compared with control. Lodging index was the most reduced when inabenfide was applied 30 days before heading with 160g ai whereas paclobutrazol and uniconazole were applied 15 days before heading with 12, 1.2g ai per 10a, respectively. All the treatments inhibited the lodging of rice but control was completely lodged. Yield treated with these chemicals was prevented by 10-12% of yield decrease occurred by lodging. As a conclusion, inabenfide with 120 or 160g ai at 40 or 30 days before heading, paclobutrazol with 12g ai at 15 days before heading, arid uniconazole with 1.2g ai at 15 days before heading appear to be the most practical application time and rate for preventing lodging in paddy rice.
