  • The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a maternal happiness scale which can be used for mothers who take care of young children, school-aged children, and adolescents. First, the maternal happiness scale was developed based on literature review and the consent of experts. Finally it was consisted of 56 items from 18 elements of happiness through checking the contents validity with professionals. Second, final respondents for the survey were 1300 mothers who had children with and without disabilities in Seoul, Busan, Gyeonggi, and Kyungnam. Third, the 8 factors including the 53 items were extracted through the mothers' appraisal of the items and the review of the adequacy for the factor analysis. The 8 factors were consisted with 'Family relations with family', 'Laid-back life and self-esteem', 'Physical and mental health', 'Independency and development', 'Spirituality', 'Interpersonal relations', 'Appearance', 'Sociocultual environment'. Fourth, the maternal happiness scale demonstrated appropriate levels of construct validity, item internal consistency, distribution of item response, and item discrimination. The results of this study enhance our understanding of the core factors of maternal happiness. In addition, the findings have implications for supporting mothers who take care of young children, school-aged children, and adolescents.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand two geography student teachers' experience of practical knowledge on the geography classroom organization during their student teaching. I carried out a qualitative case study on the geography classroom organization and its practice. Data was gathered through participant observation and in-deep interview. The results are as follows: 1) I present portraits two pre-service geography teachers' lives, which represent typical case of intrinsic deep motivation and spontaneous interest in subject matter. 2) Their classroom are organized $9{\sim}14$ segment, its segment organizations in introduction close steps and main lesson step behave differently. The segment activities in close step behave most irregularly. 3) In the reflection rubric, the level of their reflection is middle, mostly concentrated on 'technical' or 'dialogue' level. On the basis of these findings, it can be concluded that a different way of understanding the relationship between knowing to teach and knowing about teaching is necessary.

  • The vacuum drying process for drying of paper in current transformers was modeled with an aim to develop an understanding of the drying mechanism involved and also to predict the water collection rates. A molecular as well as macroscopic approach was adopted for the prediction of drying rate. Ficks law of diffusion was adopted for the prediction of drying rates at macroscopic levels. A steady state and dynamic mass transfer simulation was performed. The bulk diffusion coefficient was calculated using weight loss experiments. The accuracy of the solution was a strong function of the relation developed to determine the equilibrium moisture content. The actually observed diffusion constant was also important to predict the plant water removal rate. Thermo gravimetric studies helped in calculating the diffusion constant. In addition, simulation studies revealed the formation of perpetual moisture traps (loops) inside the CT. These loops can only be broken by changing the temperature or pressure of the system. The change in temperature or pressure changes the kinetic or potential energy of the effusing vapor resulting in breaking of the loop. The cycle was developed based on this mechanism. Additionally, simulation studies also revealed that the actual mechanism of moisture diffusion in CT's is by surface jumps initiated by surface diffusion balanced against the surrounding pressure. Every subsequent step in the cycle was to break such loops. The effect of change in drying time on the electrical properties of the insulation was also assessed. The measurement of capacitance at the rated voltage and one third of the rated voltage demonstrated that the capacitance change is within the acceptance limit. Hence, the new cycle does not affect the electrical performance of the CT.

  • Objective : A single balloon extrapedicular kyphoplasty has been introduced as one of the unilateral approaches for thoracic compression fractures; however, the unilateral extrapedicular technique in the lumbar area needs a further understanding of structures in the lumbar area. The purpose of the present study is to describe methods and pitfalls of this procedure based on the anatomy of the lumbar area and to analyze clinical outcome and complications. Methods : Anatomical evaluation was performed with 2 human cadavers. A retrospective review of unilateral extrapedicular approaches yielded 74 vertebral levels in 55 patients that were treated with unilateral extrapedicular vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. Radiographic assessment included the restoration rate of vertebral height and correction of kyphosis. Results : Anatomical evaluation indicates that the safe needle entry zone of bone for the extrapedicular approach was located in the supero-lateral aspect of the junction between the pedicle and vertebral body. The unilateral extrapedicular procedure achieved adequate pain relief with a mean decreases in pain severity of $7.25{\pm}1.5$ and $2.0{\pm}1.4$, respectively. Complications were 1 retroperitoneal hematoma, 6 unilateral fillings and 3 epidural leak of the polymethylmethacrylate. Conclusion : The method of a unilateral extrapedicular approach in kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty in the lumbar area might be similar to that in thoracic approach using a route via the extrapedicular space. However, different anatomical characteristics of the lumbar area should be considered.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore status of mathematical interactions between parent and child and use of mathematical materials at home. For this purpose, questionnaires were developed. The framework of the questionnaires consisted of mathematics education content domains. 276 parents(4-5 year old children) in J Province responded to the questionnaires, which were analyzed according to the level of home income, the mother's work conditions and the mother's level of education. The results were as follows: First, between parent and child mathematical interaction at home showed a 2.84 score in average and frequency of mathematical interaction expressed in the domains of 'Understanding of regularity', 'Measurement', 'Growing number sense', 'Space and shapes', 'Organizing data and showing results'. The domains of 'Growing number sense', 'space and shapes', and 'measurement' showed significant difference only by mother's level of education. The higher the mother's level of education, the more frequent the mathematical interaction between parent and child. Second, the use of mathematical materials showed an average score of 1.18, which means mathematical materials were practically not used at home. Also, the use of mathematical materials showed a slightly significant difference when measures against the levels of home income and the mother's level of education. The results showed a significant difference in parent-child mathematical interactions, and the possession and use of mathematical materials when measures against by level of home income and the mother's work conditions. Therefore, the results of this study suggest that the parent education program for mathematical interaction to apply at home and mathematics curriculum to be connected early in childhood education institution and home should be developed for parents.

  • Background: Neuropathic pain is generally defined as a chronic pain state resulting from peripheral and/or central nerve injury. There is a lack of effective treatment for neuropathic pain, which may possibly be related to poor understanding of pathological mechanisms at the molecular level. Curcumin, a therapeutic herbal extract, has shown to be effectively capable of reducing chronic pain induced by peripheral administration of inflammatory agents such as formalin. In this study, we aimed to show the effect of curcumin on pain behavior and serum COX-2 level in a Chronic Constriction Injury (CCI) model of neuropathic pain. Methods: Wistar male rats (150-200 g, n = 8) were divided into three groups: CCI vehicle-treated, sham-operated, and CCI drug-treated group. Curcumin (12.5, 25, 50 mg/kg, IP) was injected 24 h before surgery and continued daily for 7 days post-surgery. Behavioral tests were performed once before and following the days 1, 3, 5, 7 after surgery. The serum COX-2 level was measured on day 7 after the surgery. Results: Curcumin (50 mg/kg) decreased mechanical and cold allodynia (P < 0.001) and produced a decline in serum COX-2 level (P < 0.001). Conclusions: A considerable decline in pain behavior and serum COX-2 levels was seen in rat following administration of curcumin in CCI model of neuropathic pain. High concentration of Curcumin was able to reduce the chronic neuropathic pain induced by CCI model and the serum level of COX-2.

  • Recently, the rapid change in the technical environment and under global competition, there has been an increasing attention to the creativity among core competency of organization. Particularly, creativity is an initiative for technological innovations and a primary key factor to the success. Systematic understanding towards creativity is required to derive sophisticated creativity. However, previous researches involved in only one or two elements of creativity made it difficult to understand the holistic relations. Furthermore, the objective measurement tool of creativity is insufficient. Therefore, this study analyzes creativity from each level and clarifies the elements that can coordinately measure that. First, the study suggests three levels that compose creativity. Second, the study not only clarifies the factors influencing creativity from each level but also develops the evaluation index. The creativity level assessment model proposed in the study is capable of providing a guide-line that evaluates, and therefore enhance, the organization's competencies and potentials of creativity.

  • For many years, engineers in the field of acoustics have used the A-weighted sound pressure level (SPL). Since they were interested just in a reduction of noise, the A-weighted SPL was considered good enough to quantify noise problems. This is reasonable because loudness is usually the most important parameter for most noise problems and A-weighted SPL is often reasonably well correlated with loudness. As the overall noise levels drop, however, other parameters become more important and must be considered, Advent of sound quality came from an understanding that A-weighted SPL only reflects the loudness of a sound. It is obviously impossible to characterize a complex sound with a single number. Although product mostly has revealed physical quantities created by the standpoint of engineers, consumers perceive and evaluate products on the non-physical characteristics, such as feelings, emotions, and experiences in different social and cultural situations. Especially, for the household appliances for instance air-conditioner or refrigerator, the sound is heavily related to the satisfaction of a customer who is a real user of the product and is very important factor to decide purchasing as well as visual design. Therefore, in this research, the general tendency of consumer's psychology was investigated for the appliances. And also, in order to obtain clear guidelines fur sound manipulation, the characteristics of the sound of air-conditioning systems and refrigerators were compared with competitors'. since it is important to overcome the discrepancy between engineering and marketing, the relevance of sound manipulation must be documented from the consumer's perspective. That is the reason why we conducted a consumer and marketing oriented study.

  • The purpose of this study was to help teachers increase the level of student's school life satisfaction by comparing between the practical data of a group which have an accordant perception for class teacher's discipline style perceived by between teacher him/herself and student with another group which have a discordant perception for class teacher's discipline style perceived by between teacher him/herself and student. For this study, 1460 second grade special high school students in Pusan were selected. And 1273 students and 56 teachers' questionnaires were used for analysis, while 5 questionnaires went uncompleted. T-test and Multiple Regression Analysis were used for compiling statistics of collected data. The results of this study are as follows: First, perceptions about the teacher's discipline style perceived by between teacher him/herself and student were different. Second, the levels of student's school life satisfactions were different by two group. A group which has an accordant perception for class teacher's discipline style perceived by teacher him/herself and student shows the high level of school life satisfaction than B group which has an discordant perception. Last, class teacher's discipline style which affects the level of student's school life satisfaction was different by the two group. These results suggest that to increase the level of student's school life satisfaction, class teachers have to a mutual understanding first, and then approach their students with different discipline style by the level of their interactive relationship with their students.

  • Recent studies have investigated anger or anger-related problems in adolescents from various perspectives. However, understanding of anger expression types or the role of mediating variables in relation to anger and anger expressions have been disregarded. The purpose of this research was to understand the relationships between adolescents' anger, problem solving ability, and three types of anger expressions (anger-in, anger-out, anger-control) and to focus on the mediator function of problem-solving ability. Participants comprised 596 adolescents (283 males and 313 females). Anger was significantly related to all three types of anger expressions. Adolescents who showed high anger levels tended to indicate high anger-in and anger-out expressions but low anger-control expression, while controlling for age and gender. The findings also provided evidence for the mediator role of problem-solving ability on the relationship between anger and anger-control expression. From the results of this study suggestions and limitations were also discussed.
